You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!
This HaBO was sent in by Molly, who is looking for a YA series:
A decade or so ago, I read a series of YA novels in which the main love interest was a bad boy, but he worked/volunteered at a senior citizens home and actually loved Barry Manilow. Specifically the song “Can’t Smile Without You”.
I remember vaguely that maybe the titles had something to do with numbers? Like eight, nine, ten? And the last book featured the love interest sending the main character postcards.
Not much to go on, but hoping Barry Manilow will help solve this mystery!
Help us, Barry Manilow! You’re our only hope.
Great! Now I’ll have “Copacabana” stuck in my head all day.
I know this one!! It’s the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty. I loved those books.
My grandfather loved that song–he felt that way about my grandmother. They were together for over 60 years. They both passes away in their 90s.
Sloppy Firsts, by Megan McCafferty. Marcus Flutie is the Manilow-loving bad boy.
Yes yes yes!!!! Thank you @sara and @hannah! I knew someone would know this- I truly appreciate it!
Wow, the Bitchery has been on fire recently. I love it when the HABOs get solved *and* the requester checks in to confirm! So satisfying.
@susan, that is lovely.
I love this series so much! I was too late to answer, but I <3 Marcus Flutie forever
