  • Not the Duke’s Darling

Not the Duke’s Darling by Elizabeth Hoyt

Not the Duke’s Darling by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! We ran a guest review from Ellen before they became a regular reviewer. Ellen gave it a B-:

Overall, I think if you are sufficiently intrigued by the premise of a secret order of Wise Women, you’ll enjoy the book. And if you don’t typically crave a lot of angst and emotional torment in your romance you might enjoy it more than I did!

New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Hoyt brings us the first book in her sexy and sensual Greycourt Series!

Freya de Moray is many things: a member of the secret order of Wise Women, the daughter of disgraced nobility, and a chaperone living under an assumed name. What she is not is forgiving. So when the Duke of Harlowe–the man who destroyed her brother and led to the downfall of her family–appears at the country house party she’s attending, she does what any Wise Woman would do: she starts planning her revenge.

Christopher Renshaw, the Duke of Harlowe, is being blackmailed. Intent on keeping his secrets safe, he agrees to attend a house party where he will put an end to this coercion once and for all. Until he recognizes Freya, masquerading amongst the party revelers, and realizes his troubles have just begun. Freya knows all about his sins. Sins he’d much rather forget. But she’s also fiery, bold, and sensuous-a temptation he can’t resist. When it becomes clear Freya is in grave danger, he’ll risk everything to keep her safe. But first, Harlowe will have to earn Freya’s trust-by whatever means necessary.

Features a bonus novella from New York Times bestselling author Grace Burrowes!

  • Skinwalker

    Skinwalker by Faith Hunter

Skinwalker by Faith Hunter is $2.99! It’s the first book in the urban fantasy Jane Yellowrock series. Reviewers commented that this definitely suffers from “first book-itis,” where a bulk of the book deals with worldbuilding, but the action really picks up during the last half of the book.

First in a brand new series from the author of the rogue mage novels

Jane Yellowrock is the last of her kind-a skinwalker of Cherokee descent who can turn into any creature she desires and hunts vampires for a living. But now she’s been hired by Katherine Fontaneau, one of the oldest vampires in New Orleans and the madam of Katie’s Ladies, to hunt a powerful rogue vampire who’s killing other vamps…

  • The Lost for Words Bookshop

The Lost for Words Bookshop by Stephanie Butland

The Lost for Words Bookshop by Stephanie Butland is $2.99! This seems like fiction with strong romantic elements, or women’s fiction, with a bookshop element. It also seems pretty cozy. Readers do warn, though, that the heroine has a pretty dark, traumatic past and healing from that is a strong part of the narrative.

The Lost for Words Bookshop is a compelling, irresistible, and heart-rending novel, perfect for fans of The Storied Life of AJ Fikry and The Little Paris Bookshop.

Loveday Cardew prefers books to people. If you look carefully, you might glimpse the first lines of the novels she loves most tattooed on her skin. But there are some things Loveday will never, ever show you.

Into her hiding place – the bookstore where she works – come a poet, a lover, and three suspicious deliveries.

Someone has found out about her mysterious past. Will Loveday survive her own heartbreaking secrets?

  • Midnight Rescue

    Midnight Rescue by Elle Kennedy

Midnight Rescue by Elle Kennedy is $2.99! This romantic suspense is the first book in the Killer Instincts series. Both the heroine and hero are two kickass individuals (an assassin and mercenary). A few readers felt that the heroine’s job as a member of an elite all-female assassin organization was a bit over the top, but many praise the non-stop action.

Dangerous. Ruthless. Savage. And she’s the good guy.

Abby Sinclair had a desperate childhood until she was rescued and adopted by a retired army ranger who molded her into a master of self-defense. Now, she’s a cunning and fearless assassin thrust into assignment after dangerous assignment, using everything she has-nerve, resilience, strength, sex-to come out on top. Her only rule: trust no one.
Abby’s latest assignment is in Columbia: go undercover and snuff out a dangerous arms dealer active in the underground sex trade. But when Abby purposely blows her cover in a last-ditch attempt to free the helpless victims, deadly mercenary Kane Woodland is recruited as back-up. His mission: get Abby out of that hell hole.

The last thing Kane expects is to feel a primal attraction for Abby. But when she convinces him to join her on her perilous mission, their newfound passion could put the lives of their whole team at risk.

  1. Darlynne says:

THE LION’S DEN by Katherine St. John is on sale at Amazon US for $2.99. Elyse gave this thriller an A just recently.

  2. Arijo says:

I gave up on the Jane Yellowrock series after book 1. It was okay-ish, but in the last scene a powerful character tells Jane she’s considered responsible for the death of X (ie: she wasn’t even the one that killed X, if I remember correctly), therefore she now had a killing sentence or some such thing hanging over her head. X, by the way, was the rogue vampire killer, and the powerful character agrees that X had to die, but would stil hate Jane forever… *sigh* I felt weary just thinking about the trouble this character would cause for such an unjust reason, and couldn’t find the motivation to pick up book 2.

The series is now 10+ books… I guess it must get better?

  3. Ele says:

I’m a big fan of the Jane Yellowrock series. As I recall, in the first few books, it seemed like it was going to be a pretty traditional urban fantasy bad-ass-falls-in-love-with-a-vampire thing. But things don’t quite work out that way, and alot of the minor and/or annoying characters develop in interesting ways, as does Jane herself as she finds out more about herself and her abilities.

  4. Luce says:

I loved the Lost for Words Bookshop; I thought it would be a cozy read (covers can be deceiving; who knew!) so I was taken by surprise about the serious background story but thought it was done well and with care. If you like books that come with a lot of emotions and well-written healing (meaning: no magical cure, no wonder pill), than it will be a hit. Warnings in place for traumatic childhood experiences, domestic violence and a stalking ex with mental health issues.

  5. LML says:

Let me warn others to be more careful than I was in selecting The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry to read because contrary to the blurbs, I found it to be profoundly depressing.

  6. Crystal F. says:

Maybe I’m alone in this, but I’d love for Elizabeth Hoyt to one day release a book of fairy tales like those at the beginning of the chapters in her novels.
