  • Brazen and the Beast

Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean

RECOMMENDED: Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean is $2.99 and the second book in the Bareknuckle Bastards series. Carrie gave this one an A:

Well, that was just delightful. I loved every single minute of Brazen and the Beast, even the melodramatic bits.

    The Lady’s Plan

When Lady Henrietta Sedley declares her twenty-ninth year her own, she has plans to inherit her father’s business, to make her own fortune, and to live her own life. But first, she intends to experience a taste of the pleasure she’ll forgo as a confirmed spinster. Everything is going perfectly…until she discovers the most beautiful man she’s ever seen tied up in her carriage and threatening to ruin the Year of Hattie before it’s even begun.

    The Bastard’s Proposal

When he wakes in a carriage at Hattie’s feet, Whit, a king of Covent Garden known to all the world as Beast, can’t help but wonder about the strange woman who frees him—especially when he discovers she’s headed for a night of pleasure . . . on his turf. He is more than happy to offer Hattie all she desires…for a price.

    An Unexpected Passion

Soon, Hattie and Whit find themselves rivals in business and pleasure. She won’t give up her plans; he won’t give up his power . . . and neither of them sees that if they’re not careful, they’ll have no choice but to give up everything . . . including their hearts.

  • Wicked Fox

    Wicked Fox by Kat Cho

Wicked Fox by Kat Cho is $1.99! This is a YA fantasy romance set in modern day Seoul and featuring Korean mythology. Readers were definitely drawn to the plot, but felt the execution faltered a bit. Have you read this one? I love the cover and all its little details.

A fresh and addictive fantasy-romance set in modern-day Seoul.

Eighteen-year-old Gu Miyoung has a secret–she’s a gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who must devour the energy of men in order to survive. Because so few believe in the old tales anymore, and with so many evil men no one will miss, the modern city of Seoul is the perfect place to hide and hunt.

But after feeding one full moon, Miyoung crosses paths with Jihoon, a human boy, being attacked by a goblin deep in the forest. Against her better judgment, she violates the rules of survival to rescue the boy, losing her fox bead–her gumiho soul–in the process.

Jihoon knows Miyoung is more than just a beautiful girl–he saw her nine tails the night she saved his life. His grandmother used to tell him stories of the gumiho, of their power and the danger they pose to humans. He’s drawn to her anyway.

With murderous forces lurking in the background, Miyoung and Jihoon develop a tenuous friendship that blossoms into something more. But when a young shaman tries to reunite Miyoung with her bead, the consequences are disastrous . . . forcing Miyoung to choose between her immortal life and Jihoon’s.

  • Intercepting the Chef

Intercepting the Chef by Rachel Goodman

Intercepting the Chef by Rachel Goodman is 99c! I was excited about this book in a previous Hide Your Wallet post because it blends two of my catnips: an athlete and a foodie character. Readers thought this was a great start to a new series, but found that the heroine was difficult to like at times.

“Smart, sexy, and funny” (Publishers Weekly) contemporary romance writer Rachel Goodman is back with a brand new series about a quarterback trying to score in the most important game of his life—the game of love.

Gwen Lalonde is a rising star in the eyes of the elite restaurateurs of the world. But when her celebrity chef boss and now ex-boyfriend fires her, she finds herself playing a different game. Forced to flee San Francisco and return home to Denver, Gwen lands a spot as the executive chef at Stonestreet’s, a new restaurant owned by NFL golden boy and Colorado Blizzards quarterback Logan Stonestreet. When Logan starts pursuing Gwen romantically, she pulls a classic duck and weave and avoids any advances by throwing herself into reestablishing her reputation in Denver.

But Logan Stonestreet is persistent—he didn’t become one of the best football players in the league by throwing in the towel at the first rejection. Something about Logan’s unwavering determination—and amazing body—keeps Gwen around, and soon there’s more that’s sizzling than just the steak on the grill. Things are getting more serious than either side cares to admit, and when Logan suffers a severe injury in the playoffs, they’re both forced to make game-time decisions. The perfect romance for football fans and foodies alike, Intercepting the Chef is a delicious read that’ll have you hooked until the very last play.

  1. Mandy says:

I’ve read Wicked Fox. The juxtaposition of Korean mythology and the modern city of Seoul was nicely done. The sequel is coming out later this month, and I’m excited.

  2. Carrie G says:

Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C Wrede is $1.99 today. It’s the first book in the wonderful Enchanted Forest Chronicles. These books came up on the “books with witches” thread a while back. While these books are JF,I recommend them for everyone. They turn all the fairy tale tropes on their ears, and are original and funny.

  3. DonnaMarie says:

Hattie is my favorite MacLean heroine after Calpurnia from Nine Rules, etc.

  4. Laurel says:

I know there is a lot of love out there for Brazen and the Beast, but it did not work for me at all. The relationship between the hero and heroine is not believable and I struggled to finish the book. I really wanted to like this book – all the buzz was so positive, but after I read it I was kind of depressed that I was not swept up by it like everyone else was.

  5. Jessi says:

I agree, Laurel – I liked Hattie but I think the hero was too self-loathing for my taste. While I’m usually a MacLean fan, I barely finished this one and I’m not planning to read the 3rd.

  6. Leigh Kramer says:

Big fan of both Wicked Fox and Brazen and the Beast!

  7. Arijo says:

Ruby Lionsdrake is Lindsey Buroker. Her books are consistently good, I like the dynamics between her characters. 0.99$ for the whole series is a steal.

Also, the guy on the cover of Mandrake #3 looks EXTREMELY familiar… the same pic (not just the same guy, the same PIC) is also used for:
    – Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh (with photoshopped hair)
    – The Unyielding by Shelly Laurentson
    – Wild Things by Jennifer Ashley
    – The Assassin’s Salvation (The Mandrake Company Series Book 3) by Ruby Lionsdrake
…and those are only the ones I noted… I’m sure he must appears on more.

He is good-looking. I wonder who he is and if he knows he’s becoming a thing as a romance hero?

  8. Glauke says:

I immediately started reading The Brazen and the Beast and I’m loving it.
