  • Love and Other Scandals

Love and Other Scandals by Caroline Linden

Love and Other Scandals by Caroline Linden is $2.99! Several of Linden’s books are on sale. This is book one in the Scandalous series, which is described on Goodreads thusly: “A series in which a shocking book—Fifty Shades of Grey for the Regency era—has all of London talking and gives more than one young miss a mind for scandal.”

With Love and Other Scandals, bestselling and RITA Award–winning author Caroline Linden launches a scandalously sexy new historical romance series set in Regency England.

Joan Bennett is a breath away from being a spinster. She’s had four seasons without a suitor. After reading a shockingly sensuous book, Fifty Ways to Sin, Joan decides perhaps it’s time to stop being proper and start being sinful, while she’s still young enough to enjoy it. And what better partner than her brother’s drinking mate, Viscount Burke? He seems the type to know how to give a lady a lascivious adventure.

It seems that the viscount has qualms about trifling with a friend’s sister. That’s the way to end up betrothed. And he doesn’t want that—or does he?

  • You Never Forget Your First Earl

You Never Forget Your First Earl by Ella Quinn

You Never Forget Your First Earl by Ella Quinn is $1.99! This is a historical romance and part of The Worthingtons series. RHG gave this a C+ in a Lightning Review. She wished there were more conflict in the book, but recommends this if you’re in the mood for a fluffy, uncomplicated read.

Within the Worthingtons’ extended family circle, laughter and romance rule, and a young lady never settles for less than true love…

With her three good friends all recently married, Elizabeth Turley is ready for some husband-hunting of her own. One gentleman in particular sparks her interest. Geoffrey, Earl of Harrington is tall, handsome, and dashing. He’s also just a bit too sure of himself. But Elizabeth has observed enough about the rules of attraction to pique the earl’s attention. Yet once she has it, the discovery of a troubling secret taints her future happiness.

Lord Harrington must marry or lose a prestigious position in Brussels, and pretty, well-connected Elizabeth fits his needs admirably. But could it be that he has underestimated his bride? She doesn’t bat an eye in the face of the danger they encounter overseas. She’s strong-willed, intelligent, and more enticing each day—yet also more indifferent to him. Now Geoffrey faces his greatest challenge: to woo and win his own wife, or risk losing her for good.

  • Semiosis

    Semiosis by Sue Burke

Semiosis by Sue Burke is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched. This scifi novel was featured in a previous Hide Your Wallet. Readers love all the science-y aspects of this book, while others felt it dragged down some of the momentum. It has a 3.9 star rating on Goodreads. This has been on my TBR pile for a while, though I heard the audiobook is great.

In this character driven novel of first contact by debut author Sue Burke, human survival hinges on an bizarre alliance.

Only mutual communication can forge an alliance with the planet’s sentient species and prove that mammals are more than tools.

Forced to land on a planet they aren’t prepared for, human colonists rely on their limited resources to survive. The planet provides a lush but inexplicable landscape—trees offer edible, addictive fruit one day and poison the next, while the ruins of an alien race are found entwined in the roots of a strange plant. Conflicts between generations arise as they struggle to understand one another and grapple with an unknowable alien intellect.

March – Discovering the Duke by Madeline Martin — Reunited at a house party after a lackluster start to their marriage, the Duke of Stedton attempts to win his Duchess’ heart. Will a sizzling wager be enough to melt the frost between them, or will it truly remain the coldest winter in London?

April – The Duke and the April Flowers by Grace Burrowes — The Duke of Clonmere must marry one of the Earl of Falmouth’s three giggling younger daughters, but Lady Iris—Falmouth’s oldest, who is not at all inclined to giggling—catches Clonmere’s eye, and his heart!

May – Love Letters from a Duke by Gina Conkle — The Duke of Richland needs a proper duchess, but he wants his thoroughly fun, entirely inappropriate neighbor, Mrs. Charlotte Chatham. She’s widowed, older, and if the whispers prove true—barren.

June – Her Perfect Duke by Ella Quinn — Still suffering over the loss of his wife and child, Giles, Duke of Kendal sees Lady Thalia Trevor at a market and is instantly smitten. There is only one problem. She is already betrothed to another man. Will she defy her powerful father to marry him?

Dougray Firth, Duke of Monreith, who once pledged her his heart but then allowed her to marry another, has just proposed. Why now, after eight years? When she learns the truth, can she trust Dougray to love her enough this time?

September – Duke in Search of a Duchess by Jennifer Ashley — The meticulous Duke of Ashford is dismayed when his children ask Helena Courtland, the gossipy, busybody young widow next door, to find Ash a new wife. But she sweeps into his home and his life, turning Ash’s precisely ordered world into a chaotic whirlwind.

October – Dear Duke by Anna Harrington — When the Duke of Monmouth, decides to build a canal, he isn’t prepared for an old mill owner and his daughter to stand in his way. The only person who understands him is the anonymous pen pal to whom he’s been pouring out his heart, a woman not at all who she seems.

November – Must Love Duke by Heather Snow — Lady Emmaline Paulson already has the only Duke she wants in her life—an adorable puppy she rescued from the Serpentine with the help of a handsome stranger. Can Maxwell Granville, heir to a dukedom, convince her there’s room for him, too?

December – The Mistletoe Duke by Sabrina York — The Duchess of Devon can’t think of a better way to tempt her widowed son into marrying again, than to throw a Christmas Ball. And there simply must be mistletoe everywhere! But it’s not until Jonathan meets his mother’s humble companion under the mistletoe, that fireworks erupt.

January – Dueling with the Duke by Eileen Dreyer — When Adam Marrick, Duke of Rothray, shows up on Georgie Grace’s doorstep, she thinks it is to become acquainted with his cousin James’s widow and daughter. Instead he brings news that will completely upend their lives and put them all in danger.

    Lady. Taylor. Fleming.

    Lady Taylor Fleming?!?!!?!

    I give up.

  2. LN says:

So many many dukes. Please give me a regency novel without any dukes, or marquesses, earls or even barons!

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

SEMIOSIS is very good. A challenging read, but worth it. And I think I said this before when the book was on sale, although it’s not a romance, there is a character named Higg who, in a different type of story, has real romantic hero potential.

  4. Sarah Peach says:

I really enjoyed Love and Other Scandals…it was a very sweet romance. The heroine gets to come into her own with the help of a beloved aunt and the hero. And there’s a balloon excursion. How’s that for a not date that’s absolutely a date?

  5. Sandra says:

The Linden blurb reminded me. Whatever happened with RWA? It was such a big deal… and then it wasn’t.

  6. Zelda says:

I also liked Love and Other Scandals. Lots of witty repartee. Great escapist read during the dumpster fire of 2020.

  7. Mrs. Obed Marsh says:

@Sandra: I think RWA just kinda fell off everyone’s radar because of all the … everything that’s happening.

  8. Carrie G says:

This is the last article I’ve seen on the RWA mess. This is just FYI.

  9. Lisa F says:

@LN There’s a good Regencyish Harlequin coming out in September featuring a businessman hero and an aristocratic heroine. It’s not perfect but I adore the author – Elisabeth Hobbes. It’s called The Silk Merchant’s Convenient Wife.

  10. RWA is still in the process of revising itself. The new board of directors is sending out updates on a regular basis. I admire their willingness to try to build from the ashes, but the general membership seems exhausted after all the battles.

  11. sweetfa says:

    Historical romances WITH aliens, anyone?

  12. Susan says:

@LN: There are Regency romances without aristocrats out there, particularly under the Harlequin Historical line. They’re harder to find, but do exist.

  13. Carrie G says:

sweetfa, I was looking at steampunk titles on Audible just last night and came across the novella, Agamemnon Frost and the House of Death. It’s set in Victorian times, which is often the case in Steampunk, and is m-m. It deals with a possible alien invasion. It’s the first in a series. Since it’s available on Audible Escape, I’ll probably give it a try!

  14. Kareni says:

@LN, many of Carla Kelly’s Regency romances feature untitled characters.

  15. Kareni says:

@sweetfa, some searching found The Sky Regency: A SciFi Historical Alien Romance by J.L. Carter.

  16. sweetfa says:

Kareni and Carrie G thank you! I’m about to look those up right now.
