Hero was named Max and had a broken leg (maybe). Heroine was called in to run a small New England hotel while Max was incapacitated.

I don’t know if this will help Jen (or anyone else!) but if you go the Harlequin website and search for “Harlequin Treasury” it will pull up a lot of their older 80s and 90s titles that they’ve digitized. Then on the left you can chose “Harlequin Desire” to narrow it down.
It’s still over 200 books (!), but if you have some recollection of a cover or a title, scrolling through may help jog someone’s memory.
