While the Duke Was Sleeping

While the Duke Was Sleeping by Sophie Jordan is $2.99! This is a historical romance retelling of the movie While You Were Sleeping. Some readers thought the story worked better as a contemporary romcom. Others loved the animosity and banter between the hero and heroine early on in the book.
Sometimes the man of your dreams . . .
Shop girl Poppy Fairchurch knows it’s pointless fantasizing about the Duke of Autenberry. Still, dreams can’t hurt anyone . . . unlike the carriage Poppy spies bearing down upon the unsuspecting duke. After she pulls him to safety, the duke lapses into a coma and Poppy is mistaken for his fiancée. But one person isn’t fooled: his arrogant and much too handsome half-brother, Struan Mackenzie. Soon Poppy isn’t sure what she wants more . . . the fantasy of her duke or the reality of one smoldering Scot who challenges her at every turn.
. . . is not who you think.
An illegitimate second son, Struan may have built an empire and established himself as one of the wealthiest men in Britain, but he knows he will always be an outsider among the ton. Just like he knows the infuriating Poppy is a liar. There’s no way the haughty Duke of Autenberry would deign to wed a working class girl. It doesn’t matter how charming she is. Or tempting. Or how much Struan wants her for himself.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole is $1.99 at Amazon! It’s a KDD and isn’t being price-matched yet. If you grabbed the second one earlier this week, this is a perfect opportunity to start completing the trilogy. Sarah completely loved it:
First, yes, you should absolutely read this book immediately, if you haven’t already. If you are a reader (and why else would you be here, right?) this book is a marvelous, intelligent, respectful, breathtaking treat for your brain.
As the Civil War rages between the states, a courageous pair of spies plunge fearlessly into a maelstrom of ignorance, deceit, and danger, combining their unique skills to alter the course of history and break the chains of the past . . .
Elle Burns is a former slave with a passion for justice and an eidetic memory. Trading in her life of freedom in Massachusetts, she returns to the indignity of slavery in the South—to spy for the Union Army.
Malcolm McCall is a detective for Pinkerton’s Secret Service. Subterfuge is his calling, but he’s facing his deadliest mission yet—risking his life to infiltrate a Rebel enclave in Virginia.
Two undercover agents who share a common cause—and an undeniable attraction—Malcolm and Elle join forces when they discover a plot that could turn the tide of the war in the Confederacy’s favor. Caught in a tightening web of wartime intrigue, and fighting a fiery and forbidden love, Malcolm and Elle must make their boldest move to preserve the Union at any cost—even if it means losing each other . . .

Broken Open by Lauren Dane is $1.99! This is a small town romance with a musician/rancher hero. Readers say this is a sexy read (as are most of Dane’s books) and the main characters have a lot of chemistry. However, some found the slow burn a little too slow for their liking. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.
Beyond passion. And beyond their control…
Five years ago, Tuesday Eastwood’s life collapsed and left her devastated. After an empty, nomadic existence, she’s finally pieced her life back together in the small Oregon town of Hood River. Now Tuesday has everything sorted out. Just so long as men are kept for sex, and only sex…
Then she met him.
Musician and rancher Ezra Hurley isn’t the man of Tuesday’s dreams. He’s a verboten fantasy—a man tortured by past addictions, whose dark charisma and long, lean body promise delicious carnality. But this craving goes far beyond chemistry. It’s primal. It’s insatiable. And it won’t be satisfied until they’re both consumed, body and soul…

Personal Assets by Kelsey Browning is 99c! This is a contemporary romance, and is book 1 in the Texas Nights series. It has a 4+ star average on Goodreads, and readers who gave it high marks used words like “crisp,” “fun,” “light,” sharp,” “hot,” and “witty” to describe it. However, some readers had an issue maintaining interest. It looks like the whole series is on sale, as well!
Sex therapist Allie Shelby has the professional credentials, but she could use a bit more practical experience. Finding the right man to bring out her inner bad girl is tough in a population-challenged Texas town. So when sinfully sexy Cameron Wright rolls back into Shelbyville, Allie wastes no time inviting him to join her in some hands-on research.
Cameron has come home to fulfill his dream of restoring classic cars. Back in high school, he knew the town princess, Allie Shelby, was way out of his league. Today he has even less in common with Allie, so he’s shocked as hell when she propositions him. Still, he’s only human, so he accepts her offer—and with each encounter, she shows him another, wilder side. Before long, he’s thinking about more than just sex.
But while her personal life heats up, Allie’s business is about to crash and burn. And she has to convince Cameron that she’s one princess who’s not looking for a prince to ride to her rescue.

Nice!! Can’t believe how lucky we are getting with Alyssa Cole’s sales.
Tears of the Rose, the second book in Jeffe Kennedy’s Twelve Kingdoms trilogy, is also $1.99 right now on Amazon. If you snagged the third one when it was recently on sale, this is a good time to complete the trilogy! The first one is also $1.99. I’ve only read the first one so far, but I enjoyed it.
An Extraordinary Union is now $1.99 on Apple Books, too.
The Cole is amazing and belongs in everyone’s library.
Jordan’s been disappointing me lately on both the historical and contemporary fronts lately, sadly. The book after this one is pretty dismal.
The Jordan had some good elements and humor but needed a tight edit (typos!!!) and the conversations between the H and h never convinced me that they were anything more than in lust. It felt like a coloring book – the outlines were there but a lot was lacking. And I say this as someone who LOVES while you were sleeping.
@Egged, agreed. I bought it and read it yesterday and it was fine given the sale price. It wasn’t great, although I think with some more editing and revisions it could have been.
The Cole trilogy is excellent. My personal favourite is the third one, but they’re all very, very good.
