To Taste Temptation

To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt is 99c! This is book one in the Legend of the Four Soldiers series and was mentioned in a Rec League on Historical Romance House Parties. Readers warn that the beginning is a little slow, but if you’re looking to fully collect all of Hoyt’s romances, 99c is a good price!
The ton loves a good scandal, and theyre giddy when wealthy Samuel Hartley arrives. Not only is he self-made, American, and in the habit of wearing moccasins, he is also notorious for fleeing a battle in which several English gentlemen died. What the ton doesnt know is that Samuel is in London because of this massacre. He believes his regiment was given up to the enemy and wont rest until he finds the traitor.
Lady Emeline Gordon is captivated by Samuel. Not only does he defy convention, but he survived the battle that killed her brother. Samuel suspects that the person responsible is Jasper Renshaw, Viscount Vale, Emeline’s fiance. Though Emeline believes Vale is innocent and refuses to break off her betrothal, she and Samuel begin a passionate affair. Can their relationship survive the fallout from Samuels investigation?

Blame It on the Duke by Lenora Bell is $2.99! I’m confused as to whether this has a fake relationship or a marriage of convenience, but it has some element of that. Readers found that book was overly dramatic at times, though others really loved the heroine. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
Have you heard?
The future Duke of Barrington has just been gambled away by his father. To an heiress!
The delicious details thus far…
Nicolas, Lord Hatherly, never intended to marry—nor add to the “mad” Hatherly line—but now he must honor his father’s debt to a social-climbing merchant or lose the family estate.
A notoriously wild marquess, won by her father at a game of cards, is the very last thing Miss Alice Tombs wants. She’s spent the last three seasons repelling suitors in spectacular fashion so she’d be at liberty to explore the world. She’ll just have to drive this one away as well.
Until Nick proposes an utterly tempting arrangement: one summer together to prove the legitimacy of their union, then Alice is free to travel while Nick revels in the time he has left before the Hatherly Madness takes hold.
It will be easy to walk away after a few months of make-believe wedded bliss—won’t it? Alice and Nick are about to find out…one sultry night at a time.
This ought to be fun . . .

The Princess and the Pea by Victoria Alexander is $2.99! Some readers thought the heroine was a bit all over the place, while others loved the American heiress meets British nobleman trope. Have you read this one?
The classic tale of a fervent courtship between an American heiress and a dashing British earl from #1 New York Timesbestselling author Victoria Alexander
Feel the pea through this bed and win the heart of the man you’ll wed.
A true American princess, Cecily White stood to inherit her father’s business empire. And with the twentieth century right around the corner, the independent beauty had no intention of marrying some foreign nobleman seeking her money. Then, on a trip to England, Cece fell under the spell of a dashing peer who had more to recommend him than the length of his title and the size of his countinghouse. But Cece wouldn’t surrender her heart to the virile Earl of Graystone until he proved that the only treasure he wanted was her love.

Enterprising Ladies Regency Boxed Set by Kasey Michaels is $2.99 at Amazon! Not sure if this deal will expire shortly or if other vendors will eventually match it. This is a historical romance boxed set that features three of Michaels’ previously published books from the nineties. I believe all three books are full length novels.
From New York Times bestselling romance author Kasey Michaels, a three book Regency Romance box set.
INDISCREET:
Sophie Winstead: A spirited beauty with a mezmerizing figure and a perfect pout, Sophie Winstead had been well schooled in the art of dazzling gentlemen. Now with the London season just beginning, Sophie is determined to become a Lady–even if it means forgoing love to marry for wealth alone. If only her straight-laced sponsor would give her his approval-and stop weakening her resolve with his startlingly blue eyes.Bramwell Seaton: The picture of propriety, he swore he could control the passionate appetites that were his late father’s downfall. But from the moment Bramwell takes charge of the incorrigible yet irresistible Sophie Winstead, he is driven to mad distraction. Suddenly he and his lovely ward are waltzing ever closer toward scandal, and Bramwell must resist her charms to preserve their reputations–and his heart.
ESCAPADE:
Caledonia Johnston lies in wait inside the dark town coach of one Noel Kinsey, rotter, eager to exact justice in the name of her absent brother. It may not be the best plan, but it seems workable, at least until she realizes she has hidden herself inside entirely the wrong coach.Worse, the man now being held at pistol-point is maddening, unflappable, condescending, and quite unimpressed that his would-be assailant holds his life in her hands. In fact, he seems to find her amusing.
Callie escapes the encounter, but not the man, as it falls out that Simon Roxbury also has a bone to pick with Noel Kinsey, and it would seem Miss Johnston and her bloodthirsty plans could serve him very well.
An unholy alliance is struck, the two conspirators battle each other, a matchmaking mama, two interested and not above interfering friends, and a poor soul (who doesn’t look his best in pink), in this delicious tale of revenge gone wrong and romance definitely gone right!
A MASQUERADE IN THE MOONLIGHT:
A brash American, Thomas Joseph Donovan, arrives in London just in timeto meet debutante Marquerite Balfour, young, beautiful, and very much in Donovan’s way. It would appear she has some mischief afoot, mischiefthat could ruin Donovan’s mission to arrange some “deliveries” to hiscountry, hoping to avoid yet another war with England. Bring on a battle of wills, a battle of wits… and an attraction that can’t be denied.Add to Goodreads To-Read List →

I confess, I am burnt out on HR, what with getting historical facts wrong, having characters act in ways they would only act in the 21st century…
If there are authors of HR who are true to historical fact, language, and morés of the period, please let me know.
For Amazon UK readers, THE ROOK by Daniel O’Malley is available for .99.
@ Gloriamarie Amalfitano
I’m kinda right there with you. Some authors I recommend are Mimi Matthews and Roberta Gellis , both authors are sticklers for historical detail and work with non-regency time periods. ( Matthews focuses on the Victorian Era and Gellis focuses on mostly 12th century Europe).
Mimi Matthews’ book, A Modest Independence is on sale for 99 cents. I really liked that whole series.
@K.N.O’Rear, thank you!
@Gloriamarie Amalfitano
Check out Jo Beverley and Lynne Connolly. They at least get the titles and forms of address right, and don’t have that annoying modern feel to their books.
I wish more historical authors would read JoBev’s information page about titles: https://www.jobev.com/title.html
@SBSarah, thank you for fixing the Amazon link issue – it is working! Happy to support the bitchery in my purchases 🙂
I could’ve sworn I commented in this thread with recommendations for historicals… was I imagining things or what? Moderation? All this rain is getting to my brain?
@ReadKnitSnark You have rain????!!!! I am envious. All last night as people in the neighborhood set off their illegal fireworks, I prayed no fires would result as it is so dry here and we are really worried about the fire season to come.
To answer your question, I did see some recommendations, but I forget who posted them. My apologies for not paying attention.
@Gloriamarie Amalfitano
Yes, we have rain pretty much daily. I’m okay with it. Apparently, the 23 days of heat in June were our summer? As long as the crops don’t rot into the fields again (like last summer) I’m okay with not feeling the heat.
And there’s my comment from earlier. I guess I’m not losing it…yet.
