Wrong to Need You

RECOMMENDED: Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai is $3.99! So many of Avon’s titles are $3.99 right now and I’m including a couple in this post. This is the notorious cat pee book. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read Elyse’s review:
I do not think I can possibly endorse Wrong to Need You more strongly than “it will make you forget you’re sitting in cat pee,” but if I could, I would, because this book is everything wonderful. It’s angsty and cathartic and sexy…Alisha Rai returns with the second novel in her sizzling Forbidden Hearts series!
He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with his brother’s widow…
Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Jackson Kane fled his home, his name, and his family. Ten years later, he’s come back to town: older, wiser, richer, tougher—and still helpless to turn away the one woman he could never stop loving, even after she married his brother.
Sadia Ahmed can’t deal with the feelings her mysterious former brother-in-law stirs, but she also can’t turn down his offer of help with the cafe she’s inherited. While he heats up her kitchen, she slowly discovers that the boy she adored has grown into a man she’s simply unable to resist.
An affair is unthinkable, but their desire is undeniable. As secrets and lies are stripped away, Sadia and Jackson must decide if they’re strong enough to face the past…and step into a future together.

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, which also includes some other romances. Carrie gave this one a B-:
I was mostly charmed by the book. It was sweet but not too gooey, and I loved Annie’s through knowledge of the rom-com genre and her observation about how we can appreciate happiness all the more if we’ve also known loss.
A rom-com-obsessed romantic waiting for her perfect leading man learns that life doesn’t always go according to a script in this delightfully charming and funny novel.
Annie Cassidy dreams of being the next Nora Ephron. She spends her days writing screenplays, rewatching Sleepless in Seattle, and waiting for her movie-perfect meet-cute. If she could just find her own Tom Hanks—a man who’s sweet, sensitive, and possibly owns a houseboat—her problems would disappear and her life would be perfect. But Tom Hanks is nowhere in sight. When a movie starts filming in her neighborhood and Annie gets a job on set, it seems like a sign. Then Annie meets the lead actor, Drew Danforth, a cocky prankster who couldn’t be less like Tom Hanks if he tried. Their meet-cute is more of a meet-fail, but soon Annie finds herself sharing some classic rom-com moments with Drew. Her Tom Hanks can’t be an actor who’s leaving town in a matter of days . . . can he?

RECOMMENDED: A Duke in Shining Armor by Loretta Chase is $3.99! Carrie absolutely loved this one and gave it an A:
I should have been able to read A Duke in Shining Armor in a day. Instead, it took me a week. And do you know why? Because I purposely kept putting it down once I realized that eventually I would RUN OUT OF BOOK. How DARE this book be over?
Not all dukes are created equal. Most are upstanding members of Society. And then there’s the trio known as Their Dis-Graces.
Hugh Philemon Ancaster, seventh Duke of Ripley, will never win prizes for virtue. But even he draws the line at running off with his best friend’s bride. All he’s trying to do is recapture the slightly inebriated Lady Olympia Hightower and return her to her intended bridegroom.
For reasons that elude her, bookish, bespectacled Olympia is supposed to marry a gorgeous rake of a duke. The ton is flabbergasted. Her family’s ecstatic. And Olympia? She’s climbing out of a window, bent on a getaway. But tall, dark, and exasperating Ripley is hot on her trail, determined to bring her back to his friend. For once, the world-famous hellion is trying to do the honorable thing.
So why does Olympia have to make it so deliciously difficult for him . . . ?

The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley is $2.99! Kearsley is a wonderfully evocative writer, blending historical, paranormal, mystery and romance into rich and absorbing books. However, others felt this isn’t one of Kearsley’s strongest works. Have you read this one?
THE INVINCIBLE NINTH ROMAN LEGION MARCHES FROM YORK TO FIGHT THE NORTHERN TRIBES. AND THEN VANISHES FROM THE PAGES OF HISTORY.
Archaeologist Verity Grey has been drawn to the dark legends of the Scottish Borderlands in search of the truth buried in a rocky field by the sea.
Her eccentric boss has spent his whole life searching for the resting place of the lost Ninth Roman Legion and is convinced he’s finally found it—not because of any scientific evidence, but because a local boy has “seen” a Roman soldier walking in the fields, a ghostly sentinel who guards the bodies of his long-dead comrades.
Here on the windswept shores, Verity may find the answer to one of the great unsolved mysteries of our time. Or she may uncover secrets someone buried for a reason.

Is there a link to the Avon sale? I can’t find the sale anywhere.
@KateB: I don’t think there’s an official landing page. I simply noticed a lot of Avon titles on sale.
Alisha Rai, Sophie Barnes, Loretta Chase, Caroline Linden, Laura Lee Guhrke, etc.
The Rai and the Chase are my top two here; both are well worth the cash.
I really liked the Loretta Chase, but there was a lot of obvious sequel bait and the actual sequels seem to be a long time away.
If you do care about that sort of thing, it might be worth waiting for.
@Amanda thank you for putting together these Books on Sale pages daily. I come here every morning (or afternoon… or… what is time??) and this post & comments are always a bright spot in my day.
@LisaF I loved the Rai (which I got after reading Elyse’s review) – have to try the Chase…
@MsCellanie Thanks for the heads up! I’ve been buying things on sale a lot & working through my backlogged TBR – hopefully by the time I get to this one the sequel will be out LOL.
@MsCellanie and @Penny. The Loretta Chase sequel “Ten Things I Hate About the Duke” will be out Dec. 1, 2020.
I love Susanna Kearsley. She writes so beautifully and her heroes past and present are just lovely. The Shadowy horses also has an archeology dig and a ghost , what more could you want!
There are not enough words to express my love for Alisha Rai’s Forbidden Hearts series. All of them were amazing, although I don’t think any of them would have kept me sitting in cat piss.
Thanks, @Amanda!
Hugh Philemon Ancaster, Duke of Ripley
Lady Olympia Hightower
There are many reasons to love Loretta Chase, but her character naming skills are really tops.
This Susanna Kearsley book is related to another book she’s written, though it is a standalone. The boy in this book grows up to become one of the main characters in The Firebird. Which I also did not find to be one of her best books, tbh. But it had a tantalizing bit about a Roman ghost, which led me back to this one.
