  • Bellewether

    Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley

Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. We did a Cover Reveal for this one, since it was such an interesting departure from Kearsley’s usual covers. Some readers felt this one was slow to start, while others loved Kearlsey’s beautiful writing. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

“The house, when I first saw it, seemed intent on guarding what it knew; but we all learned, by the end of it, that secrets aren’t such easy things to keep.”

It’s late summer, war is raging, and families are torn apart by divided loyalties and deadly secrets. In this complex and dangerous time, a young French Canadian lieutenant is captured and billeted with a Long Island family, an unwilling and unwelcome guest. As he begins to pitch in with the never-ending household tasks and farm chores, Jean-Philippe de Sabran finds himself drawn to the daughter of the house. Slowly, Lydia Wilde comes to lean on Jean-Philippe, true soldier and gentleman, until their lives become inextricably intertwined. Legend has it that the forbidden love between Jean-Philippe and Lydia ended tragically, but centuries later, the clues they left behind slowly unveil the true story.

Part history, part romance, and all kinds of magic, Susanna Kearsley’s latest masterpiece will draw you in and never let you go, even long after you’ve closed the last page.

  • The Happy Ever After Playlist

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez is $2.99! I believe this is also a limited deal, if not a Kindle Daily Deal. I know there are mixed feelings about the first book, but the second book is seems to have more positive reviews. Have you read this one?

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Friend Zone comes an adorable and fresh romantic comedy about one trouble-making dog who brings together two perfect strangers.

Two years after losing her fiancé, Sloan Monroe still can’t seem to get her life back on track. But one trouble-making pup with a “take me home” look in his eyes is about to change everything. With her new pet by her side, Sloan finally starts to feel more like herself. Then, after weeks of unanswered texts, Tucker’s owner reaches out. He’s a musician on tour in Australia. And bottom line: He wants Tucker back.

Well, Sloan’s not about to give up her dog without a fight. But what if this Jason guy really loves Tucker? As their flirty texts turn into long calls, Sloan can’t deny a connection. Jason is hot and nice and funny. There’s no telling what could happen when they meet in person. The question is: With his music career on the rise, how long will Jason really stick around? And is it possible for Sloan to survive another heartbreak?

  • Charlie All Night

Charlie All Night by Jennifer Crusie

RECOMMENDED: Charlie All Night by Jennifer Crusie is $1.99 at select vendors! This was recommended by Candy in a very early version of Lightning Reviews and received an A-:

It features yet another somewhat-sullen-yet-adorable Crusie heroine, and Charlie is another mussed-and-not-traditionally-handsome-but-still-hot hero. I especially enjoyed the details on running a radio show. I have no idea if they’re accurate, but it almost doesn’t matter if they aren’t because Crusie makes it feel real.

Dumped by her boyfriend and demoted from WBBB’s prime-time spot, radio producer Allie McGuffey has nowhere to go but up. She plans to make her comeback by turning temporary DJ Charlie Tenniel into a household name. And if he’s willing to help cure her breakup blues with a rebound fling, that’s an added bonus.

Charlie just wants to kick back, play good tunes and eat Chinese food. He’s not interested in becoming famous. But he isinterested in Allie. And after all, what harm is a little chemistry between friends?

But suddenly their one-night stand has become a four-week addiction. Night after night on the airwaves, his voice seduces her…and all the other women in town. He’s a hit. It looks as if Charlie’s solved all Allie’s problems…except one. What is she going to do when he leaves?

  • Against the Wild

Against the Wild by Kat Martin

Against the Wild by Kat Martin is 99c at Amazon! This is the first book in Martin’s Brodies of Alaska and is a romantic suspense set in (obviously) Alaska. The book seems rather intense based on the description. The heroine is still dealing with the death of her fiancee and the hero has a mute daughter. Some readers expressed that they enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second half, though many thought the setting was perfect for the suspenseful plot.

Alaska: Where the men are as bold and untamed as America’s last wilderness…

It’s been three years since Lane Bishop tragically lost her fiancé, and she’s finally ready to risk her heart on someone else. The hot look in Dylan Brodie’s eyes says he’s going to be that man.

But when Lane flies to the remote 1930s fishing lodge to help him renovate, she discovers a little girl who won’t speak, eerie legends and strange sounds in the night. And when she investigates the history of the lodge, she uncovers a legacy of injustice and murder.

As danger stalks his daughter and the woman he is coming to love, Dylan must risk everything to uncover the shocking truth.

I moved to Alaska in the 80’s as a traveling nurse, lived in the town rumored to be the inspiration for “Northern Exposure”. Loved an Alaskan man, married an Alaskan man, divorced an Alaskan man. The saying I heard in the Red Onion in “82 rang true; For a woman in Alaska, “the odds are good-but the goods are odd”
So I will stick with pnr and leave the Alaska fantasies for others to enjoy.

Being a French Canadian myself, I’m jumping on Bellwether. It will be my first time reading about a French Canadian romance (almost-)hero. 🙂

@neh: ‘the odds are good-but the goods are odd’. LOL Very picturesque.

  3. Vicki says:

So, he lives in Alaska, he is standing on a seaplane float, there is a breeze, there is snow down to about, eh, maybe two hundred feet, and there he is lightly dressed (possibly believable) and showing off a fresh golden all over tan (not likely). Hmm.

  4. AmyS says:

I liked Abby Jimenez”s first book, but LOVED the second book. I very much recommend it.

  5. OK says:

I loved Charlie All Night! It was really cute, with a non-toxic hero who was just the right combination of alpha and cinnamon role for my tastes, and a very satisfying comeuppance for the ex.
