Pretty Face
Pretty Face by Lucy Parker is $3.99! This is the second book in a series, the first book we featured a couple weeks ago. Sarah read this one and though she didn’t squee over it as much as she did with Act Like It by Lucy Parker, the book still earned a B:
The theme of this book, of choosing difficult happiness and fulfillment over worrying what people will say about your choices, is a terrific, nuanced one for a romance. Richard summarizing the meaning of that theme while talking about stage performance was one of the best parts of the book for me.
Highly acclaimed, award-winning author of Act Like It Lucy Parker returns readers to the London stage with laugh-out-loud wit and plenty of drama
The play’s the fling
It’s not actress Lily Lamprey’s fault that she’s all curves and has the kind of voice that can fog up a camera lens. She wants to prove where her real talents lie—and that’s not on a casting couch, thank you. When she hears esteemed director Luc Savage is renovating a legendary West End theater for a lofty new production, she knows it could be her chance—if only Luc wasn’t so dictatorial, so bad-tempered and so incredibly sexy.
Luc Savage has respect, integrity and experience. He also has it bad for Lily. He’d be willing to dismiss it as a midlife crisis, but this exasperating, irresistible woman is actually a very talented actress. Unfortunately, their romance is not only raising questions about Lily’s suddenly rising career, it’s threatening Luc’s professional reputation. The course of true love never did run smooth. But if they’re not careful, it could bring down the curtain on both their careers…

Giving Chase
Giving Chase by Lauren Dane is $1.99! This is a small town romance with a hint of a suspense. I’m also on the fence on whether or not to categorize this as an erotic romance. If this book seems familiar, it was previously published back in 2006, but has since been updated and re-released.
Previously published; newly refreshed by author
The Chase boys. Ridiculously hot and notoriously single.
When landscaper Kyle Chase takes notice of Maggie Wright, all of Petal, Georgia, wonders what the quiet schoolteacher is hiding underneath her tight bun and boring blouses. Even Maggie doesn’t quite get it, but after a failed relationship and a disastrous attempt to get back out there, she’s no match against the famous Chase charm, and Kyle has it in spades.
Kyle wants Maggie in his life—and in his bed—and he doesn’t mind getting down and dirty to prove it. For years he’s avoided the kind of trouble that comes with “good girls” like her, but Maggie’s the best trouble he’s ever been in. He craves more of it. And more of her.
But even as their love grows into thoughts of forever, a hidden danger from Maggie’s past threatens to tear them apart. And when Maggie suddenly disappears, Kyle must put his faith in his family and race to save the love of his life before he loses her forever.
The Chase is on. One small town. Four hot brothers. And enough heat to burn up anyone who dares to get close. Don’t miss the next books: Taking Chase, Chased and Making Chase.

Autumn in the Vineyard
Autumn in the Vineyard by Marina Adair is 99c! There’s a star-crossed, enemies to lovers element and readers loved the smooth-talking, Italian hero. But some readers didn’t really see the gravity of the conflict between the hero and heroine. This was made into a Hallmark movie and I’ve been meaning to watch it, since it stars Rachael Leigh Cook. A couple of the other books in the St. Helena Vineyard series are also 99c!
Frankie Baudouin has a hundred reasons not to trust Nate DeLuca. First, he’s a DeLuca. Second, he kissed her—in front of the entire town—and then never called. Oh, and he’s after her land. Sorrento Ranch is Frankie’s last chance to prove to her family—and to herself—that she has what it takes to be an award-winning winemaker. And she will stop at nothing to ensure her success—even if it means playing nice with the starched, sophisticated, and oh-so-sexy Italian.
For Nate, Sorrento Ranch is more than just soil and grape vines; it was his father’s dream—a dream Nate is determined to make a reality. So when he finds himself forced to cohabitate with a hot-headed, irrational, and incredibly gorgeous Baudouin, Nate is surprised to discover that chaos could be so much fun—especially when she sleeps in nothing but lace.

Goalie Interference
Goalie Interference by Avon Gale & Piper Vaughn is $1.99! This is an m/m hockey romance and Aarya mentioned this one on a previous Hide Your Wallet new releases post:
I loved the previous book in the Hat Trick series, and can’t wait to revisit the Atlanta Venom hockey team for another m/m romance (they’re rival goalies on the same team!).
It’s goalie vs. goalie in this brand-new enemies-to-lovers hockey romance from Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn…
Ryu Mori has had a stellar season as goalie for the Atlanta Venom. So when he’s called into management’s office, he’s expecting to hear he’s the new starting goalie for the team, not that some new guy—an incredibly hot, annoyingly bratty rookie—is here to compete for his spot.
Not everyone gets to play in the best league in the world. Emmitt Armstrong knows that, and he’s not about to waste the opportunity after grinding his way from the bottom to the top. If the Venom is looking for a meek, mild-mannered pushover, they’ve got the wrong guy.
Ryu doesn’t want to admit the other goalie’s smart mouth turns him on. Beating Armstrong at practice feels good, sure, but there are other, more fun ways to shut his rival up.
In this league, it’s winner takes all. But there’s more to life than winning, and if Emmitt and Ryu can get past their egos and competitive natures, they might just discover they work better as partners than they ever imagined possible.

I love, love LOVED Goalie Interference!
I haven’t read AUTUMN IN THE VINEYARD, but the Hallmark movie is cute. Rachel Leigh Cook and Brendan Penny have good chemistry. Plus, there is a funny llama, and the scenery is gorgeous.
I was browsing Apple Books today and there are some new offers for FREE books, some are first in series promotions. Includes Penny Reid (Neanderthal Meets Human) and Priscilla Oliveras (His Perfect Partner), as well as other contemporaries and historicals by authors I read.
Pretty Face is my favorite in the London Celebrities series! I laughed a lot – from the first page, I sobbed at parts, it just made me feel all the feels
I really enjoy Marina Adair’s St Helena series, but I recommend you start from book 1. You can technically read them stand alone, but you will get more emotional attachment from characters and the town, particularly the meddling grannies, as you read them in order. Total comfort reads, or listens – great narration too.
I loved Pretty Face though I think The Austen Playbook has supplanted it as my favorite Parker book now. It’s close though. Such a lovely book.
Pretty Face has a lot of tropes I generally dislike – age gap, boss/employee, heroine who’s impossibly gorgeous, hero who sounds like an alphahole in the blurb – and while Act Like It remains my favourite Lucy Parker by a country mile, this one surprised me by grabbing second place. It’s impossible not to like Lily, and Luc’s alpha tendencies completely collapse immediately on meeting her. Would recommend, even if the tropes don’t speak to you!
Maybe you have to be from the UK to know that Pretty Face cannot lead to a classic HEA, or the heroine would become Lily Savage.

@GraceElizabeth – Parker does the gruff & grumpy man so well that I’ve come to trust her not to overstep on the alpha tendencies. They usually are paper thin and gone as fast as they appear. I don’t mind age gaps in romances, but I don’t generally enjoy boss/employee relationships. I’m not sure why it worked here though I suspect the collaborative nature of the artistic community made this more about each individual’s contributions more than a typical work setting.
