  • How to Cross a Marquess

How to Cross a Marquess by Jane Ashford

How to Cross a Marquess by Jane Ashford is $1.99! This one is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, so get it while you can. This seems to have a lot of catnip: enemies to lovers, meddling family, childhood history, neighbors. However, the book description is rather sparse and I wish there were more explanation on the central conflict.

The Marquess of Chatton and his neighbor Fenella Fairclough have known each other all their lives. They refused to marry each other years ago when their parents demanded it, and they won’t concede now―even if circumstances have brought these former enemies much closer than they ever could have anticipated…

  • Kiss the Bride

Kiss the Bride by Deirdre Martin

Kiss the Bride is $1.99 at Amazon! This is an anthology featuring three contemporary romance novellas from Laura Florand, Deirdre Martin, and Christie Ridgway. Readers say that the first story might be the weakest of the three, but that the other two really knock it out of the park.

Some men have only one thing on their minds–and for three unsuspecting women, it appears to be marriage! Looks like spring wedding fever is about to get hotter. . .

Early Bird Special by Deirdre Martin

Fashion exec Dana Fine lives a fabulous life of international travel and glamour. But it only takes a few days visiting with her matchmaking grandparents for her to long for something more. . ..Or maybe it’s sexy landscaper Josh Green who’s got her all hot and bothered. . .

    Weddings Ink by Christie Ridgway

  • The Golden Spider

The Golden Spider by Anne Renwick

The Golden Spider by Anne Renwick is 99c at Amazon and isn’t being price-matched just yet! This is a steampunk romance with two doctor characters. Readers say there’s a lot of great sexual tension between the hero and heroine, but found some of the medical jargon took them out of the story. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

London papers scream of dirigible attacks, kraken swarms, and lung-clogging, sulfurous fogs. But a rash of murders barely rates mention.

Lady Amanda is tired of having both her intelligence and her work dismissed.

After blackmailing her way into medical school, she catches the eye of her anatomy professor from the moment she walks into his lecture hall. Is he interested in her? Or only her invention–a clockwork spider that can spin artificial nerves?

Lord Thornton, a prominent neurobiologist, has been betrayed.

Secret government technology has been stolen from his laboratory, and a foreign spy is attempting to perfect it via a grisly procedure… using gypsies as test subjects. The last thing he needs is the distraction of a beautiful–and brilliant–new student, even if her spider could heal a deteriorating personal injury.

Until her device is stolen and used in the latest murder.

Lord Thornton has no option but to bring her into his laboratory as well as the investigation where they must fight their growing, yet forbidden, attraction. Bodies accumulate and fragile bonds are tested as they race across London, trying to catch the spy before it’s too late.

  • Marked

    Marked by Rebecca Zanetti

Marked by Rebecca Zanetti is $2.99! This is a paranormal romance with a friends to lovers and forced proximity element. Some reviews mentioned readers waiting for this couple to get there book. So while I could be read as a standalone, things might pack a better emotional punch if you’re more familiar with the series.

Janie Kayrs has known Zane almost her whole life. He was her friend in the dream world. She trusted him. But that was before he kidnapped her, spiriting her away to an isolated cabin to learn what her dreams never told her. Like how dangerous he looks. How he got on the wrong side of the negotiating table. And how much sexier he is in real life…

Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he’s worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice…

There are a bunch of books free right now on iBooks, including Ilona Andrews’ Clean Sweep.

I listened to the Jane Ashford book on Scribd just a few days ago. It’s the third book in a series about four men all dealing with grief in different ways. The conflict is first set up as being about the hero blaming the heroine for her role in his wife’s death (they rode out together, got caught in a rain, and the wife subsequently got sick and died), but that’s actually resolved rather quickly. Then we move on to another conflict, stemming from the H&H’s youth, when their fathers wanted them to marry while they… didn’t. But they get over this pretty soon as well, so in the last part there’s external conflict in the form of misogynistic family members and someone trying to kill the heroine. So quite a bit of conflict(s) for one book – maybe the explanation is missing because no one felt up to summarizing it? 😉

  3. Susan/DC says:

One thing I liked about the Jane Ashford is that the heroine’s conflict with her father is not prettied up and resolved at the last minute. He treats her unfairly and doesn’t mend it with a few platitudes and she doesn’t forgive him simply because he’s her father. Too often in romances unforgivable behavior is forgiven just to show how sweet and loving the heroine is as if it’s somehow unfeminine to hold people accountable for their bad behavior.
