  • Hold Me Close: Ravenswood Boxed Set

Hold Me Close: Ravenswood Boxed Set by Talia Hibbert

Hold Me Close by Talia Hibbert is $4.99! This is a boxed set that collects books one through three in her Ravenswood series and also includes a novella. Not bad for less than $5! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this deal.

Devoted heroes. Headstrong heroines. Steamy, small-town romance.
Read the entire Ravenswood series from USA Today bestselling author Talia Hibbert for a limited time.

    A Girl Like Her
Tattooed ex-soldier Evan Miller has a problem: he can’t stay away from his adorably awkward neighbour. The trouble is, he makes geeky Ruth nervous without even trying. So Evan proposes a deal designed to bring them closer—and closer. And closer.

    Damaged Goods
Samir Bianchi has never forgotten his childhood sweetheart. So when she turns up on his beach, achingly pretty and undeniably pregnant, he swings into protective mode. Laura’s searching for a happy ending, far away from her awful husband. And Samir wants to provide it…

    Untouchable
Nate Davis used to be the local bad boy. Now, he’s a tattooed single dad in desperate need of help. His new live-in nanny, Hannah, is bossy, uptight, and dynamite with the kids. She’s also beautiful, tempting, and totally off-limits… but rules were made to be broken.

    That Kind of Guy
Playboy Zach Davis is more casual hook-up than boyfriend material. But when his best friend Rae needs a fake date to face her ex-husband, Zach’s first in line. Now they’re sharing a hotel room… and a bed… and their bodies. But what about their hearts?

Warning: these red-hot romance novels contain cinnamon roll heroes, relatable heroines, forced proximity, and all the quirks of British small-town life. Read with tea or coffee and plenty of cake. Preferably while wrapped up in a blanket.

  • The Bear and the Nightingale

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

RECOMMENDEDThe Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden is $2.99! This fantasy novel has elements of Russian mythology and I made a soothing cocktail for it. The book is whimsical and perfect for the winter, though it can drag at time, in my opinion.

A magical debut novel for readers of Naomi Novik’s Uprooted, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, and Neil Gaiman’s myth-rich fantasies, The Bear and the Nightingale spins an irresistible spell as it announces the arrival of a singular talent with a gorgeous voice.

At the edge of the Russian wilderness, winter lasts most of the year and the snowdrifts grow taller than houses. But Vasilisa doesn’t mind—she spends the winter nights huddled around the embers of a fire with her beloved siblings, listening to her nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, she loves the chilling story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon, who appears in the frigid night to claim unwary souls. Wise Russians fear him, her nurse says, and honor the spirits of house and yard and forest that protect their homes from evil.

After Vasilisa’s mother dies, her father goes to Moscow and brings home a new wife. Fiercely devout, city-bred, Vasilisa’s new stepmother forbids her family from honoring the household spirits. The family acquiesces, but Vasilisa is frightened, sensing that more hinges upon their rituals than anyone knows.

And indeed, crops begin to fail, evil creatures of the forest creep nearer, and misfortune stalks the village. All the while, Vasilisa’s stepmother grows ever harsher in her determination to groom her rebellious stepdaughter for either marriage or confinement in a convent.

As danger circles, Vasilisa must defy even the people she loves and call on dangerous gifts she has long concealed—this, in order to protect her family from a threat that seems to have stepped from her nurse’s most frightening tales.

  • She Walks in Shadows

She Walks in Shadows by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

RECOMMENDEDShe Walks in Shadows is 99c at Amazon, which means this deal could be expiring ASAP. Carrie loved this Lovecraftian anthology, but definitely warns there is no romance.  She gave it an A-:

This collection has adventure and horror, sex, violence, and some very dark humor. The one thing missing from this anthology is any romance – that’s not surprising, since the Lovecraft style is not terribly conducive to romance.

They emerge from the shadows, to claim the night ….

Women from around the world delve into Lovecraftian depths, penning and illustrating a variety of Weird horrors. The pale and secretive Lavinia wanders through the woods, Asenath is a precocious teenager with an attitude, and the Ancient Egyptian pharaoh Nitocris has found a new body in distant America. And do you have time to hear a word from our beloved mother Shub-Niggurath?

Defiant, destructive, terrifying, and harrowing, the women in She Walks in Shadows are monsters and mothers, heroes and devourers. Observe them in all their glory. Iä! Iä!

  1. Batman says:

I read the first two stories in the Talia Hibbert anthology and enjoyed them. “Ex-solider” and “protective male” are NOT my preferred heroes, but Hibbert excels at writing heroes from tropey alphahole backgrounds who defy the stereotype. The tattooed ex-soldier in “A Girl Like Her” is wonderfully patient and compassionate with the neuro atypical heroine, and the protective male in “Damaged Goods” is not jealous or territorial, but rather focuses on providing comfort and safety for the heroine who is working through some major trauma.

I bought the Hibbert boxed set, it sounds great. I was surprised though to learn it has 3 heroes of color and yet they chose to put a white dude on the cover heh. Lame! But I’m still excited to read the books. This cinnamon roll hero concept was new to me and I had to Google it. xD Sounds delicious!

  3. Allison R-B says:

Talia Hibbert is magic. I want to rave about her representation. In Hold Me Close, youre going to get HEA’s for interracial relationships, working class love, at least one neurodivergent heroine, & an adorable demisexual hero (Zach from That Kind of Guy.) Everybody deserves to see themselves in romance. Talia Hibbert is one of the best writers working in Romance today, & I love her effortless inclusion.

  4. E.L. says:

I might be the only person I know who isn’t into Talia Hibbert’s writing. I think her books might just be too low stakes for me. After the intense prologue in A Girl Like Her, I settled back expecting a lot of drama between Ruth and her Ex’s family, but that drama never really materialized. Instead the book was just … really mellow. So much so that I had to check after I finished to see if I accidentally skipped some pages or missed an epilogue or something. But no, any drama was wrapped up posthaste at the end, and the rest of the book was just mellow relationship fluff. Which is fine. But I think I need more conflict to stay interested.

  5. oceanjasper says:

I had a different issue with Talia Hibbert. I read A Girl Like Her and enjoyed the quirks of the characters and the way in which their relationship developed, but there was something missing from the writing. I needed to know more of the characters’ thoughts; it felt like I was on the outside looking in, whereas in most romances the reader is right there feeling everything along with the characters. I could appreciate the story’s qualities but as I was reading I often felt like maybe something had happened and I’d missed it….

  6. LB says:

Just chiming in to say @E.L. and @oceanjasper: same and same.
