Links: Just Stuff

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.I don’t even know what to title these things anymore.

There is no theme to this collection of stuff. It’s just…stuff. Tarot cards, fun videos, virtual book events.

If you’re curious how I’ll be spending my afternoon, I somehow have all the ingredients for this.

It’s okay to treat yourself and, right now, I’m ogling this gorgeous botanical-themed tarot deck on Kickstarter.

It’s already reached its goal, so you’re guaranteed to get your reward! It’s also reached a stretch goal to have the illustrations compiled into a book. Hell yeah.

There are a few of these types of videos going around, but this one is my favorite so far!

Romance authors are contributing items for the LIFT 4 Autism auction. I believe bidding opened up on Monday and ends Friday.

Speaking of Friday, don’t miss this awesome virtual event happening with Alyssa Cole, Beverly Jenkins, Mia Sosa, and Rebekah Weatherspoon!

Need a happy cry? Or just a cry in general? Watch the trailer for A Secret Love.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

  1. Mrs. Obed Marsh says:

If you want to better support and understand autistic people, the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network put up a new online book called Welcome to The Autistic Community. It’s mainly directed at autistic people and people who think they might be autistic, but allies are also encouraged to read it – Chapter Nine is specifically about allyship. The entire book is available for free online and is written in plain language. Check it out!

Oh, and Happy Autism Acceptance Month!

  3. Nicolette says:

    Thank you Mrs. Obed Marsh.

Good to meet you, by the by.

  4. Maite says:

    THANK YOU, Mrs. Obed Marsh.

You know the feeling when you clean your glasses and can see? Or finally shake off a cold and can breathe?

    I’m having one of those.

  5. Mrs. Obed Marsh says:

    @Nicolette

Aw, you’re welcome! I’ve been mostly lurking for years but it’s always nice to be welcomed. Thanks so much!

    @Maite

You’re welcome too! Unless I miss my guess, it sounds like you’ve finally found the right diagnosis. Isn’t it great?! It’s like you found the owner’s manual for yourself, and now you know what all the features you never really understood are for and how to make them work. Congratulations and welcome to the autistic community!

This list was amazing, as always! No links to add, just wanted to share my deep appreciation for them.

Oh! And Bin Appetit will be doing a fundraiser/live show in Friday!

  7. I have two links filled with spring flowers and color:

Tulips.com is the website for Roozengaarde, a big family farm operation north of Seattle in Skagit Valley. The annual Tulip Festival was cancelled and they lost grocery store orders for a million (yes a MILLION) cut flowers b/c of the pandemic, and now they’re shipping all over the lower 48 just to try to keep their workers on the job. Shipping is $14.99, tulips are amazing. I’ve sent them across the country from the WA farm to my sister in law in CT (a doc treating covid patients!) and they arrived perfectly. The tulips have maybe a week or a bit more of a season, so this is the way to send an early mother’s day gift asap, or just a thank you/thinking of you to anyone, while helping a farm employer who is doing the right thing to keep people on the job. Or get them for yourself. (I got the idea because a neighbor ordered herself a huge bunch, and was giving them out in groups of ten tulips to everyone on the block).

I also just received a wonderful “slow stitching” kit from Wattle & Loop, an Australian company that uses vintage fabrics to make lovely floral art craft kits. It came pretty quickly through Australia Post and USPS, and the quality is top notch. The fabric scraps are pressed and packaged in little glassine envelopes, the instruction booklet is full color printed, etc. I’m really looking forward to making it! Their website is gorgeous (but be warned, if you look at it, your FB ads will be taken over).

    Enjoy!

Hi! Not a surprise you’d have all those ingredients around. Here’s the (very similar) recipe I often turn to: https://smittenkitchen.com/2006/11/ganached-guinness-goodness/

And there’s a recipe in “First Prize Pies” for an Irish Car Bomb pie that has Bailey’s in it (as well as boiling the stout down to a syrup for further flavoring). I’ve made it several times and I just love it. I couldn’t find an online reference to the recipe…

  9. LML says:

The artwork on the Botanical Tarot cards is amazingly creative and evocative and beautiful. I know this much -0- about tarot, but I might learn just as an excuse to use those beautiful cards.

  10. Maureen says:

Wow- A Secret Love looks amazing! I cried during the trailer-so I better make sure I have plenty of Kleenex ready.

  11. Kris Bock says:

A Sweet Home Alabama prequel novel, set 7 years before the movie when the characters are teenagers, releases this weekend.

There is a Facebook Live book launch party this Sunday (May 3rd) at 3 pm, streaming on the Facebook page of Douglas J Eboch. It will feature a reading from the book with multiple voice actors, and the actor who played sheriff Wade is scheduled to attend.

The book is titled Felony Melanie in Pageant Pandemonium.
