Links: Just Good Things

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. We are in the midst of week 3 of COVID-19 social distancing. How is everyone doing? Bored yet?

In previous editions of Links, we’ve listed ways to keep active and busy and some things that are free to watch, read, and listen to.

This one is more focused on boosting those serotonin levels with funny or uplifting things we’ve found around the internet!

I am having a blast reading the backstories people have given these gorgeous birds on Reddit.

Cowboy Tim is so wholesome and I enjoyed watching his journey as he gets the hang of social media.

Don’t miss the launch of “Goodnight with Dolly” tomorrow!

Listen, we’ve all been to a place emotionally where we just need a playlist of Disney power ballads. My favorite Disney song: “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Mulan. A close second is “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. What are your favorites?

Do you ever just confuse terms in your head and say the wrong thing? You aren’t alone; there’s a whole thread of these mixups!

Thanks you to everyone who sent us John Krasinski’s quarantine project: Some Good News!

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Some of my favorite Disney songs are Colors of the Wind and Just Around the Riverbend from Pocahontas. I also love You Can Fly from Peter Pan. I feel a Disney animated movie binge coming on…

@Maureen: Melissa McCarthy’s LipSync Battle version of Colours is the best ever. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saOHKFWW3tU Starts at 5:46, will leave you laughing.

  4. Maureen says:

Thank you so much @hng23-I was crying I was laughing so hard!!

  5. Emily C says:

@Maureen and hng23- my favorite lip sync battle of all time is Emma Stone doing Blues Traveler and DJ Khalid “All I do is win” the absolute best!! Melissa McCarthy and Ellen are close seconds though

  6. I also love “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Mulan. It is infinitely singable.

I also really like “Try Everything” from Zootopia, and I love the music in the animated (fox version) Robin Hood too.

  7. MsCellanie says:

@hng23 – love the lip sync battle clip!
Here’s a link to my favorite one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i5DEipIWh4 (Zendaya & Tom Holland).

My goddaughter is a social worker in rural NC. She sent a grant proposal to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library after she saw how understocked the local children’s section was and got enough to triple the size of the collection. Dolly is awesome.

I discovered Cowboy Tim a little while ago. He is a delight. Hashtag John Wayne.

Have you seen Pluto Living. Seriously, if you haven’t seen this little Schnauser’s public service announcements from the Canadalands, go watch. Here is the link to her Facebook page, but she’s also on Instagram, YouTube and Twitter. https://www.facebook.com/PlutoLiving/

  10. Betsydub says:

@Lynnd – thanks for your comment. I sent “Pluto Living” in for Wednesday Links last week, but I guess it got lost in the shuffle. Pluto’s (& her Mom’s) short videos have become required watching (& rewatching) for me over the last 2+ weeks. They are my go-to place for laughs and wisdom regarding the new bizarro-normal. No one is immune to the four-legged from the Canadalands. It’s like Brene Brown and Kate McKinnon woke up as a schnauzer one day.

@MaryK LOVED the One More Day!

  12. THANK YOU Amanda for these links! Between the birds and the mixups I have tears running down my face and am trying not to explode into laughter while my colleagues are on the phone!

Um, how have we not mentioned TINY CHEF yet.

Sometimes he’s a little much for me (which is saying something) but mostly he’s exactly what I need.

I recommend you start with this one, where he gets a gift from a friend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvcervHk-4c

He has an excellent Instagram, which includes Fan Art Friday where he wears hilarious little glasses and uses a paintbrush to point to things.

Also, on the note about Disney songs, “Just Around the Riverbend” is a perennial favorite in my life, and much to my poor husband’s chagrin, because any time we are hiking and there is a river (which, living in Idaho, is a LOT), I cannot stop myself from starting in on it immediately. “The funny thing about rivers is… you can’t step in the same river twice… the water’s always changing always floooooowiiiiiiiiiing” omg I’m singing it now in my kitchen…

  15. Anybody remember Reading Rainbow with fondness? In our hour of need, LeVar Burton returns to soothe us – three times a week: https://www.tor.com/2020/04/02/let-levar-burton-read-the-works-of-neil-gaiman-to-you-this-friday/

I have another link. CHOIR! CHOIR! CHOIR!, from Toronto, are doing virtual sing-alongs (Facebook Live and YouTube). They are so much fun, and since no one but my poor husband can hear me howling along, I can belt out the tunes (hubby’s ears aren’t bleeding too badly). I find these sessions incredibly stress and anxiety-relieving. The next session is Saturday, April 4th at 3:09 pm EDT. We will be singing campfire songs :). I’m entertained by the virtual safaris from the Cincinnati Zoo – https://www.youtube.com/user/CincinnatiZooTube .
