Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Bathing Hero Compromises Heroine

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO request is from Elaine, who is looking for a historical romance:

This novel takes place after Waterloo.

The heroine is collecting for charity. She goes to the home of her brothers best friend.

He is in the bath.

The butler thinks she is someone else and takes her to the bedroom.

The couple is forced to marry.

Sarah and I both agree this HaBO reminds us of poetry – HaBOetry.

  1. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

I have no idea what this book is, but I am wondering why just seeing him in the bath forces them to marry if no one else but the butler knew.

  2. Sarah Drew says:

@Gloriamarie – you’re being logical again, aren’t you? Tut tut, Gloriamarie, tut tut. (But reliance on that sort of silly situation is why I’ve more or less stopped reading HR.)

  3. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

@Sarah Dew, Alas I cannot suspend logic or turn it off. LOL. What is HR?

  4. Margaret says:

@Gloriamarie – HR is historical romance (unless it’s changed and I’m missing something terribly hip!). @Elaine – I don’t know the book offhand, but it sounds like maybe a Mary Balogh, or possibly a Grace Burrowes?

  5. Lisa D says:

I read a lot of Balogh and Burrowes and sounds like one I’ve read. NOW I want to know. Someone, please help!

  6. Kate says:

Does the hero play piano? Isn’t there a book where she shows up, the butler brings her to the hero’s room, he’s playing piano, and he doesn’t realize she’s not a uh, hired visitor?

Later in the book he realizes who she is because she comments on his musical skill but he only plays in his room so that makes it obvious.

IDK what book that is or if that’s this book but now I want to know both…

  7. JudyW says:

Love Alters Not by Patricia Veryan has a great (and hilarious) “walk in while in the bath” scene but I don’t think this is it as they are not forced into marriage over it. But this is worth checking out!

  8. spinster.revival says:

@Kate that one is Nine Rules to Break…by Sarah MacLean which is awesome!

  9. Chorkbork says:

@Kate I think the one where he plays piano in his bedroom is Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah Maclean.

  10. Lisa F says:

God this is familiar and feels Old Skool but I can’t name/face it.

  11. Laurie says:

I need this book whatever it may be.

  12. olisipos says:

The book is DUCHESS by MISTAKE by Cheryl Bolen

  13. SusanE says:

Wow, the description for Duchess by Mistake is an exact match. And the first book in the series is free (at least for the Nook).

  14. Karin says:

I feel sure this situation has happened in more than one HR, but I’m checking out Duchess by Mistake, because I love any excuse for an MOC.

  15. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

Having read Duchess by Mistake last night, I can say with complete authority that this is the book. All the action described in the OP happens in the 1st chapter and there is a plausible explanation for events.

    Sweet story. I enjoyed it.

  16. olisipos says:

Would someone be so kind as to let me know why this
HABO is not listed as SOLVED?
    Best regards

  17. Amanda says:

@olisipos: We typically wait for the requester to get back to us on whether it’s been solved with any of the suggested titles.
