Dumplin’
RECOMMENDED: Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy is 99c! I highly recommend this book, especially if you love Dolly Parton. It’s funny and emotional, and the struggles Willowdean faces as a “self-proclaimed fat girl” will relate to many who suffered from those awkward teen years. Seriously, get this book. And the Netflix adaptation is fantastic, if you need something to watch right now.
Self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson (dubbed “Dumplin’” by her former beauty queen mom) has always been at home in her own skin. Her thoughts on having the ultimate bikini body? Put a bikini on your body. With her all-American beauty best friend, Ellen, by her side, things have always worked . . . until Will takes a job at Harpy’s, the local fast-food joint. There she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock. Will isn’t surprised to find herself attracted to Bo. But she is surprised when he seems to like her back.
Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does. Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all.
With starry Texas nights, red candy suckers, Dolly Parton songs, and a wildly unforgettable heroine— Dumplin’ is guaranteed to steal your heart.

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku Vol. 1
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, Vol. 1 by Fujita is 99c! This was recommended in our Rec League for romantic manga and Ellen has some personal words of recommendation:
I LOVE Wotakoi!! I think it’s very funny and the two main pairings are charming, although I do think a lot of the humor relies on some baseline familiarity with otaku culture.
GAMES OVER ROMANCE Narumi Momose has had it rough: Every boyfriend she’s had dumped her once they found out she was an otaku, so she’s gone to great lengths to hide it. When a chance meeting at her new job with childhood friend, fellow otaku, and now coworker Hirotaka Nifuji almost gets her secret outed at work, she comes up with a plan to make sure he never speaks up. But he comes up with a counter-proposal: Why doesn’t she just date him instead? In love, there are no save points.

Mercury Striking
Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti is $2.99! This is a dystopian romance (which you understandable may want to avoid right now). Readers loved the world building and thought the heroine had a nice blending of being confident yet vulnerable. However, some said they felt a little lost in all of the action. Be warned that there is some consent issues, as commented by Lia in a previous sale post.
With nothing but rumors to lead her, Lynn Harmony has trekked across a nightmare landscape to find one man—a mysterious, damaged legend who protects the weak and leads the strong. He’s more than muscle and firepower—and in post-plague L.A., he’s her only hope. As the one woman who could cure the disease, Lynn is the single most volatile—and vulnerable—creature in this new and ruthless world. But face to face with Jax Mercury…
Danger has never looked quite so delicious…

Eternal Love: The Immortal Witch Series
Eternal Love: The Immortal Witch Series by Maggie Shayne is 99c at Amazon! For now, it’s full price elsewhere. This boxed set collects three books in the series, which features witches and time travel. I’ve seen marketing blurbs describe this as Outlander meets Practical Magic.
Raven is a witch from the 1690s who flees the hangman’s noose in England to find a haven in Massachusetts Bay where the witch hysteria is about to tear her and her lover apart.
Arianna’s beginnings were in the Scottish Highlands where her sister died to save her, and an immortal warrior loved her beyond reason and life itself.
Nidaba was a high priestess in the Temple of Inanna in ancient Sumer, until the king fell for her, and his queen hunted her down.
In the present day, these three women find each other and their lovers once more, but the dark ones who hunted them for their powerful hearts, hunt them still.
Both historical and contemporary, both paranormal and spiritual, this epic series is like none you’ve read before, or ever will.

Thank you!
Can’t say enough good things about Wotakoi. Read the first 2 then waited impatiently for #3. Two main characters sweet. Two supporting characters a hoot!
Thank you!
The Blacksmith Queen by G. A. Aiken is currently $2.99 at Amazon.com. It’s been recommended a lot around here.
Loved Mercury Rising but it is a little hard to read
now with the whole pandemic wiping out the population story line.
+1 for Wotakoi
Watakoi the anime is also available to watch on Amazon Prime if anyone is interested. It is subtitled only but so much fun.
