Hey, everyone! It’s quite an interesting time to exist on this earth. There are lots of things to worry about, namely the upcoming election and COVID-19.
I want to stress how important it is to take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Breaks from social media have helped me. For physical stuff, do some social distancing if you can (read some books!) and keep washing those hands!
Stay safe out there, friends!

Think dogs get all the love when it comes to book covers? Here are some books (mainly romances) that let cats have the spotlight!

The Ripped Bodice has released their 2019 Diversity Report. The diversity percentage for every 100 books published is the highest it’s been since The Ripped Bodice started their report, but it’s still under 10%, which is not great at all.

As someone who owns a KitchenAid stand mixer (thanks, Sarah!), I so enjoyed Roxane Gay’s love letter to her own KitchenAid.

McSweeney’s takes a satirical look at the personal essay. I do love reading personal essays, but admittedly there is a common theme.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Indeed, everyone can help blunt the impact of COVID-19 by protecting themselves, which helps to protect others.
And, if you live in the US, here’s something you can do while social distancing:
“In the US, 2020 is likely to be the most significant election in a generation. If you’re an adult US citizen it’s important that you (yes, you) register to vote and then vote in November 2020. Several states are purging voters from their rolls so it’s important also to check your registration to make sure it is still valid and if it is not, to re-register. Don’t let anyone take your right to vote!
Check your registration: via the National Association of Secretaries of State.
Election Day in the US is November 3rd, 2020. Remember to vote then or make arrangements to vote early!“

My Furrever Friends Cat Cafe series of sweet romances has cute cats on *every* cover. It starts with Coffee and Crushes at the Cat Cafe.
Why should dogs get all the love?
I’m not sure where to put this—and I hate to complain—but since the pop-up ads have started again, it is taking forever for the site to load on my phone or pad. Also, even if I X-out of the ad on the home page, it still pops up again on every post I subsequently open (I’m fully aware that this is probably the way things are intended to work—but it is really annoying and then the posts take extra time to load too). I understand the site needs to make money, I just wish there were a way it wasn’t quite so intrusive.
@D2Deb – which one is causing you problems? The one at the top of the page? I’d turned most of them off.
With the increased hand-washing we’re all doing, I expect that everyone is finding that their hands are now completely dissolving. I’m now going through hand cream like never before, and using a good one is important. I am addicted to:
https://www.maisonlavande.ca/en/shop/product/pure-lavender-hand-cream-50ml / https://www.maisonlavande.ca/en/shop/product/pure-lavender-hand-cream-250ml
I find it absorbs better than l’Occitane’s lavendar hand cream (which is still good, don’t get me wrong), and I’ve ordered tons of this and their other lavendar stuff and love it all. HOWEVER, I’m not sure if they ship from Canada, so this may be only for Canuck Bitches.
Stay well, everyone!
@SB Sarah: I first noticed it when the pop-ups started again at the bottom of the page. Ads/banners in the middle of the pages did not appear to affect the page-load speed, but with those bottom of the page pop-ups, load time increased. I don’t want to be Debbie Downer, but it really has made a difference.
I have been comfort reading. It is just nice to find old favorites when things seem overwhelming.
Oh, man, also I have totally become obsessed with LOVE IS BLIND on Netflix. I swear Lauren and Cameron walked straight out of a romance novel. These two! Although if it were a romance I would only give it 3.5 stars because I would not find the premise plausible at all and would ding the insta-love, but would praise the couple for having insane chemistry! And Cameron is a total book boyfriend (if this were actually romance novel…)LOL.
@Tina- yes yes!! I keep watching the show just for the Too-good-to-be-true love story of Cameron and Lauren. The rest of the show is a complete train wreck but then they cut to those two and it’s straight out of a romance. I can even see the adorable cartoon-y cover image that’s so popular right now for the two of them. Sigh…I would love to read that book right now
I appreciate everything anyone is doing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. My husband, twin brother and niece are all currently undergoing chemotherapy and are immunocompromised so getting any virus is serious but the coronavirus would likely be fatal. My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma almost seven years ago and is now undergoing his fifth round of chemotherapy. It is unusual that he has done as well as he has and part of it is due to social distancing, diligent hand washing, and sanitizing has been a way of life for us.
Joan, we are sending you and your family the absolute most good thoughts and virtual support.
