Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Trapeze School Date

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO is from Daniela, who is trying to find this contemporary romance:

The heroine and hero are radio personalities. She talks about finding love and he used to do the same but since his heartbreak (cheating wife?), he’s mostly been teaching guys to be players. The producers gives him an ultimatum involving teaming up with the heroine and giving listeners first date ideas to fall in love. The only thing I can remember distinctly is that they go to Trapeze School New York for their date and he learns how to catch her.

I take trapeze and all you learn on your first date is how to do a knee hang where someone catches you. Learning to catch is something you do after you’re advanced. this inconsistency was the reason I stopped reading the book but my instructors at TSNY are curious about it since I’ve been complaining since I first read it.

I love reading about career inconsistencies in romance novels. Don’t get me started in the publishing industry’s portrayal in Fifty Shades.

I thought I’d read a synopsis of this book, if not the book itself, but it seems that “rival radio personalities” is a popular trope. Here’s a Good Reads list that might jog your memory. Good luck—it’s pretty long:

I believe it’s “The Knocked Up Plan” by Lauren Blakely.

  3. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

I have no idea but it sounds to me like something Jennifer Crusie would write. Except I am confident she ould have researched trapeze school first and not made such a rookie error.

  4. Bonnie says:

I agree, it’s “The Knocked Up Plan” by Lauren Blakely

@Gloriamarie Amalfitano: She did. Charlie All Night.

  6. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

@SANDRA. Yes, I know I have both read it and own it. But no trapeze school in it. I sure wish she would publish something new. Ditto Laura Kinsale.

Check out Jenny Crusie’s website at Arghink – she’s working on stuff, and it’s an invaluable education in writing to watch the process. Also, there’s a lot of commentary and discussion by some seriously talented writers there.

  8. Daniela says:

Op: Thank you all! It is The Knocked Up Plan. How did I completely forget the pregnancy plot line? I guess the completely ridiculous trapeze thing did me in. Also, I would NEVER forget a Jenny Crusie book. Bet Me was my gateway into romance novels when I was but a wee teen. I think I’ve read all of her books multiple times. I live for the day when she published a new one.
