  • The Unleashing

    The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston

RECOMMENDED: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! Yeah, you’re reading that right. If you were at RT a couple years ago, Sarah squeed about this so hard, so thanks to everyone who told us about this sale. And she did a little drive by squee during a review for the second book, The Undoing:

Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)

    WINGING IT

Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstöm has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

  • Royally Screwed

    Royally Screwed by Emma Chase

Royally Screwed by Emma Chase is 99c at Amazon! The sale isn’t being matched anywhere, so it could be ending soon. I was really excited for this book in a previous Hide Your Wallet, but found that the hero’s grovel was insufficient. However, I did enjoy the sheer wackiness of the next book and series as a whole.

Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka His Royal Hotness, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant; hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces, and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately, the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia, Nicholas is worth it.

Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is and, more importantly, who he wants to be: a King…or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

  • Three Weeks to Wed

Three Weeks to Wed by Ella Quinn

Three Weeks to Wed by Ella Quinn is 99c! Redheadedgirl reviewed this book and wound up giving it a C-:

This is one of those frustrating books where there’s a good idea but it gets bogged down in a total and utter lack of tension or conflict.

In the first book of her dazzling new series, bestselling author Ella Quinn introduces the soon-to-be Earl and Countess of Worthington–lovers who have more in common than they yet know. The future promises to be far from boring…

Lady Grace Carpenter is ready to seize the day–or rather, the night–with the most compelling man she’s ever known. Marriage would mean losing guardianship of her beloved siblings, and surely no sane gentleman will take on seven children not his own. But if she can have one anonymous tryst with Mattheus, Earl of Worthington, Grace will be content to live out the rest of her life as a spinster.

Matt had almost given up hope of finding a wife who could engage his mind as well as his body. And now this sensual, intelligent woman is offering herself to him. What could be more perfect? Except that after one wanton night, the mysterious Grace refuses to have anything to do with him. Amid the distractions of the Season he must convince her, one delicious encounter at a time, that no obstacle–or family–is too much for a man who’s discovered his heart’s desire…

  • Wrong Number, Right Guy

Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey

Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey is 99c! This is the first book in The Bourbon Street Boys series and all the other books are discounted as well. Readers recommended this for fans of romantic comedy contemporaries. However, others felt the amount of comedy bordered on immature.

When a mysterious text message summons May Wexler to a biker bar in downtown New Orleans, she knows something is very wrong. Her sister has sent out an SOS, but when May gets there, she’s nowhere to be found and May is the one in trouble—she’s wearing pink espadrilles, she’s got a Chihuahua in her purse, and she’s in the middle of a shootout.

After tall, muscular Ozzie comes to her rescue, May has no choice but to follow him to safety. At the headquarters of his private security firm, the Bourbon Street Boys, she finds a refuge for the night—and the offer of a job. But it’s not long before a gun-toting stalker isn’t the only complication in May’s life: the more time she spends with Ozzie, the less she can deny that they’ve got some serious chemistry. A wrong number got her into this mess…Will it also get her the right guy?

THE DEEP by Rivers Solomon is $1.99 today. African mermaids.

  2. Lisa F says:

I really like Ella Chase but I agree that’s not her best one.

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

For a while, I was keeping track of how many covers the UNLEASHING “hoodie guy” image showed up on. I lost track when I got into the teens.

  4. Peggy Collins says:

Same cover reversed. Just interesting (to me).

  5. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Peggy Collins: also used on this Molly O’Keefe book:

    https://www.amazon.com/Heart-M-OKeefe-ebook/dp/B01ATWSXIY/ref=sr_1_26?crid=5MF451I2CNCQ&keywords=molly+okeefe+kindle+books&qid=1580665133&s=digital-text&sprefix=Molly+o’keefe%2Cdigital-text%2C181&sr=1-26

And undoubtedly lots more. As I noted in comment #4, the same image can show up on multiple books. I had an exchange with someone on another site (I think it was on Dear Author) who said she had a collection of almost 100 covers all featuring the same basic image.

  6. BellaInAus says:

    @DDD
I once bought a book because it had the same photo of the same couple on the cover as another book I’d owned.

The original book was fairly crap, but the second one is one for my keeper shelf.

  7. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@BellaInAus: I have occasionally purchased books based on how hot the cover (or cover model) was. It’s a hit or miss proposition. I’ve also purchased books because the cover is the same (or very similar) to the cover of a book I’ve really liked. I must have four books on my kindle that have essentially the same cover as Julianna Keyes’s TIME SERVED, one of my all-time comfort re-reads. None of the other books with that cover was any good—I don’t think I made it through any of them. To coin a phrase, you really can’t judge a book by its cover.

  8. Deianira says:

@DiscoDollyDeb: I, too, have purchased books based on the cover models! Because why not?

I’ve also been really, REALLY disappointed when cover art is changed. “Stud in the Stacks”, I’m looking at you; Old Knox sold me on the book – my first Pippa Grant – but New Knox wouldn’t have garnered a second glance. I was crushed when my Kindle finally updated & replaced the cover art.

  9. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Deianira: I call it ANTON syndrome…and I have it bad, lol. I bought Brenda Rothert’s ANTON (admittedly on sale) because of its hot af cover featuring my alternate-universe boyfriend, cover model Zack Salaun. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the book lived up to the promise of the cover and I had to DNF. But if I see Zack on a cover, I generally put the book on my “possible tbr” list.

    /I’m so shallow.
