  • The Seafarer’s Kiss

The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember

RECOMMENDED: The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember is $2.99! This is a lesbian romance between a mermaid and a Viking shield maiden. Elyse read this one and gave it a B+:

It works really amazingly as a feminist retelling of a beloved fairytale, and it’s rich in detail about what mermaid life would be like, but purely as a romance, the heroines spend too much time apart to be satisfying.

Having long wondered what lives beyond the ice shelf, nineteen-year-old mermaid Ersel learns of the life she wants when she rescues and befriends Ragna, a shield-maiden stranded on the merfolk’s fortress. But when Ersel’s childhood friend and suitor catches them together, he gives Ersel a choice: Say goodbye to Ragna or face justice at the hands of the glacier’s brutal king.

Determined to forge a different fate, Ersel seeks help from the divine Loki. But such deals are never straightforward, and the outcome sees her exiled from the only home and protection she’s known. To save herself from perishing in the barren, underwater wasteland and be reunited with the human she’s come to love, Ersel must try to outsmart the God of Lies.

  • Life on the Leash

Life on the Leash by Victoria Schade

Life on the Leash by Victoria Schade is $1.99! Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a C. She warns that it’s not really a romance or a rom-com, but is more about a woman and her dogs. Temper your expectations! However, I am really loving the outfit on the cover.

Must Love Dogs meets My Not So Perfect Life in this hilarious romantic comedy about a dog trainer who’s a master at managing her four-legged friends, but when it comes to her love life…let’s just say she still has a lot to learn.

Cora Bellamy is a woman who thrives on organization. She’s successfully run her own dog training business for years, perfectly content with her beloved rescue pitbull as the main man in her life. She’s given everything to her business, and her lack of social life (or slobber-free clothes) has been completely worth it.

But all that changes when she meets Charlie Gill, the hottest client she’s ever had. The only problem? Charlie’s taken. Luckily, Cora has a new friend—the sweet, lovably geeky Eli Crawford. More loyal than a retriever, he’s always there to help Cora with her problems, including her love life. That’s why she’s shocked to realize that even as things start heating up with Charlie, there might just be a more-than-friends spark between her and Eli, too.

As Cora’s life gets more tangled up than a dogwalker’s leashes—and as she prepares to audition for a dog-training TV show that may irrevocably change her entire life—she has to figure things out before it all goes straight to the dogs.

Charming, witty, and warm-hearted, Life on the Leash inspires you to cheer for every underdog looking for love.

  • What a Duke Dares

What a Duke Dares by Anna Campbell

What a Duke Dares by Anna Campbell is $1.99! This is the third book in the Sons of Sin series and seems to have a lot of catnip: a road trip and childhood friends! Readers say this can be read out of order, but warn there is a lot of emphasis on virginity in thi sone.

    A REPUTATION AT RISK

What woman in her right mind would say no to marrying the dashing Duke of Sedgemoor? Miss Penelope Thorne, that’s who. She’s known Camden Rothermere since they were children-and she also knows she’d bring nothing but scandal to his name.

Cam can hardly believe Penelope turned down his proposal. But if she wants to run off to the Continent and set the rumor mill ablaze, he can’t stop her. Then her brother’s dying request sends him to bring home the one woman he thought he’d finally gotten over.

The only way they’ll both get back to London without their reputations in tatters is to pretend they’re married during the journey. That means kissing like they mean it and even sharing a bed-until it becomes hard to tell where the game ends and true desire begins . . .

  • Lost Hearts

    Lost Hearts by Lexi Blake

Lost Hearts by Lexi Blake is $1.99 at Amazon! This was previously released under the title Memento Mori, in case the description sounds familiar. Blake tends to specialize in erotic romantic suspense with alpha heroes, if that is or isn’t your bag.

Six men with no memories of the past
One leader with no hope for the future

    A man without a past

Jax woke up in a lab, his memories erased, and his mind reprogrammed to serve a mad woman’s will. After being liberated from his prison, he pledged himself to the only thing he truly knows-his team. Six men who lost everything they were. They must make certain no one else gets their hands on the drugs that stole their lives, all while hiding from every intelligence organization on the planet. The trail has led him to an unforgiving mountainside and a beautiful wilderness expert who may be his only hope of finding the truth.

A woman with a bright future

River Lee knows her way around the Colorado wilderness. She’s finally found a home in a place called Bliss after years lost in darkness. The nature guide prefers to show her clients the beauty found in the land, but she also knows the secrets the mountains hold. When she meets Jax, something about the troubled man calls to her. She agrees to lead him to the site of an abandoned government facility hidden deep in the forest. She never dreamed she was stepping into the middle of a battlefield.

A love that could heal a broken soul

Spending time with River, Jax discovers a peace he’s never known. Their passion unlocks a side of himself he didn’t even know he was missing. When an old enemy makes his first move, Jax and River find themselves fighting for their lives. But when his past is revealed, will River be caught in the crosshairs of a global conspiracy?

I love Lexi Blake—but, as you note, her heroes are total alphas and much of the sex is of a bdsm/D/s variety. I actually started reading her Masters & Mercenaries series as a bit of a guilty pleasure, but as time went on, I became very invested in the characters and the storylines. The Memento Mori series is an offshoot of the M&M series and I do think it helps if you’ve read those first.

  2. Star says:

I haven’t read this particular Anna Campbell, but I read a few of her earlier books a long time ago, and their handling of consent struck me as extremely questionable, so I stopped reading her. No idea if she’s still going that route, so if anyone has read her more recent stuff, please jump in!, but if you’re sensitive to how consent is portrayed, you might want to proceed cautiously with her. On the other hand, if pushier heroes are your jam, you might really enjoy her stuf.

  3. Peggy says:

The Seafarer’s Kiss: Heads up for those (like me) who tend to automatically one click – amazon did not show me the usual banner indicating that I already have The Seafarer’s Kiss. It was only a nagging “isn’t that in my TBR?” that got me to check my kindle BEFORE I bought it ….again.

Of course, that would be the first double purchase for me……even if a book has a new cover……or a new publisher……..or…..
