Destiny’s Surrender
RECOMMENDED: Destiny’s Surrender by Beverly Jenkins is $1.99! This is the second book in her Destiny series and follows Andrew, Logan’s brother. He has a particularly unique relationship with a courtesan named Billie, who shows up on his doorstep with a child she says is his – and with the intention of leaving her son there so he can have a better life and escape the danger that’s closely following Billie. This book has an impressive 4.2-star rating on GR.
The child he didn’t know he had . . .
Andrew Yates has come to a decision: it’s time to stop sowing those oats and start a family. But searching for a bride isn’t as simple as he’d hoped, and many of the respectable women of his acquaintance feel . . . lacking. Then beautiful, feisty Wilhelmina “Billie” Wells arrives at the family ranch with a toddler in her arms, claiming Drew is the father!
The woman he didn’t know he loved . . .
Billie had no choice but to show up at Destiny in search of Drew. For the sake of their child, she’s willing to leave him with his father so the boy can have a better life, but then, before she can blink, she’s saying “I do” in front of a preacher in a marriage of convenience. All Billie and Drew have in common is the heat that brought them together, but can their sizzling passion lead to an everlasting love?

Playing House
RECOMMENDED: Playing House by Ruby Lang is $2.99! Aarya gave it a B:
It’s a must-read for the summer if you’re looking for an adorable, empathetic, and joyful romance.
I encourage you to pick up Playing House to transport you into another world for a few hours. It might be the escape you desperately need; it certainly was for me.
Romance blossoms between two city planners posing as newlyweds in this first in a bright new series by acclaimed author Ruby Lang
The last thing Oliver Huang expects to see on the historic Mount Morris home tour is longtime acquaintance Fay Liu bustling up and kissing him hello. He’s happy to playact being a couple to save her from a pushy admirer. Fay’s beautiful, successful and smart, and if he’s being honest, Oliver has always had a bit of a thing for her.
Maybe more than a bit.
Geeking out over architectural details is Oliver and Fay’s shared love language, and soon they’re touring pricey real estate across Upper Manhattan as the terribly faux but terribly charming couple Darling and Olly.
For the first time since being laid off from the job he loved, Oliver has something to look forward to. And for the first time since her divorce, Fay’s having fun.
Somewhere between the light-filled living rooms and spacious closets they’ve explored, this faux relationship just may have sparked some very real feelings. For Oliver and Fay, home truly is where their hearts are.

Desire and the Deep Blue Sea
Desire and the Deep Blue Sea by Olivia Dade is $2.99! This is the first book in the Love Unscripted series and was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet. Readers loved the thoughtful beta hero, but warn that this is definitely more of a novella-length romance.
They’re pretending. Until they aren’t.
Thomas McKinney has never wanted a woman the way he wants Callie Adesso. Since she started working alongside him at the Colonial Marysburg Research Library, he’s spent his desk shifts fumbling pencils, tripping over his own feet, and struggling to remember both the Dewey Decimal System and the existence of her inconvenient boyfriend. Now, however, Callie is suddenly single–and in need of a last-minute faux-boyfriend for an episode of HATV’s Island Match. Thomas is more than happy to play the part…and in the process, convince Callie that a week together isn’t nearly long enough.
Callie has never found a man as irritating as she finds Thomas. He may be brilliant, kind, and frustratingly handsome, but the absent-minded librarian also makes every workday an anxiety-inducing exercise in stress. Even seven days in paradise by his side won’t change her opinion of him. Really. No matter how attentive he is. And gentle. And sexy.
One plane ride later, the two of them are spending long, hot days under the sun and on display, pretending to be in love for a television show. This may be a vacation, but it’s also an act–as well as Thomas’s last chance to persuade the woman of his dreams to include him in hers. And soon, the island heat isn’t the only thing steaming up HATV’s cameras…

The Matchmaker’s List
The Matchmaker’s List by Sonya Lalli is $1.99! Reviews warn that this really isn’t a romance and falls more into the women’s fiction category of a main character in the midst of a self discovery type quest. Keep that in mind when going into it!
One devoted modern girl + a meddlesome, traditional grandmother = a heartwarming multicultural romantic comedy about finding love where you least expect it
Raina Anand may have finally given in to family pressure and agreed to let her grandmother play matchmaker, but that doesn’t mean she has to like it–or that she has to play by the rules. Nani always took Raina’s side when she tried to push past the traditional expectations of their tight-knit Indian-immigrant community, but now she’s ambushing Raina with a list of suitable bachelors. Is it too much to ask for a little space? Besides, what Nani doesn’t know won’t hurt her…
As Raina’s life spirals into a parade of Nani-approved bachelors and disastrous blind dates, she must find a way out of this modern-day arranged-marriage trap without shattering her beloved grandmother’s dreams.

The Ruby Lang was great but novella length – I wished there was more story to flesh it out more.
Olivia Dade writes the best cinnamon roll heroes and curvy competent heroines – this one’s a novella, but if you enjoy it, I highly recommend Teach Me for a full length book from Dade. One of my top reads of last year. So much enthusiastic consent in the sexy times, plus older main characters who just want to do right by each other.
Playing House isn’t on sale – it has always been $2.99. It’s only novella length.
Dark Embrace by Eve Silver is 99 cents on Amazon if you enjoy her Gothic romances (and I do…)!
Read all of these and loved all of them!
Billie from Destiny’s Surrender is easily one of my all-time favourite heroines. She is an amazing woman who has been through hell, and not only has hell failed to defeat her, it’s made her stronger. I love her so much, and I wholeheartedly recommend the book for her alone. I honestly wasn’t super keen on her hero, but he was what Billie wanted, and since I wanted her to have what she wanted, therefore I wanted her to have him.
Regarding The Matchmaker’s List, I declined to review my ARC when I became aware of problematic content. The plot involves the main character pretending to be lesbian so she doesn’t have to deal with her family wanting her to get married, even as a gay teen is coming out to her. She also proceeded to out that teen to all of her family and friends when she finally fessed up.
Seconding @Leigh Kramer. I’d had high hopes for Matchmaker’s List and was so disappointed I DNF’d because I could see the train wreck coming and didn’t want to stay on the train.
@Leigh, NomasiCat Thanks for the heads up on Matchmaker’s List. It’s been on my TBR for a while, but not anymore.
