The Bawdy Bride
The Bawdy Bride by Amanda Scott is $1.99! This is a historical romance that was originally published in 1995 and seems to have Gothic elements. Some reviews mention there are some hefty old school vibes, while others said they were surprisingly bored.
A marriage of convenience flames into a treacherous, passionate liaison in bestselling author Amanda Scott’s spellbinding Regency tale.
As the third and last unwed daughter of an earl, Lady Anne Davies doesn’t expect her marriage to be a love match. She is in need of a husband. Lord Michael St. Ledgers needs a woman to run his home and be a mother to his orphaned niece and nephew. It seems the ideal business arrangement. When Anne travels to Michael’s ancestral estate, the Priory, deep in the Derbyshire countryside, she starts to uncover his disturbing secrets. Michael’s brother perished under mysterious circumstances, and now someone at the Priory is stalking her. As Anne begins to fear for her life, she realizes that the greatest danger may come from the man she has come to trust–and love.

Welcome To Bliss, the Bridal Capital of the Midwest!
Single mom Natalie Castellano isn’t feeling so blissful these days…
Natalie’s made a career out of screwing up all over her hometown. But it’s redemption time, and she’s putting on her big girl panties to make sure this year’s bridal festival goes off without a hitch. Even if it means she has to play nice with the man who broke her fairy tale.
She’s definitely not the one for him. Or is she…
World adventurer and reluctant local hero CJ Blue doesn’t want to be in Bliss anymore than Natalie wants him here. But family obligations have brought him back, and now he’s somehow been roped into saving the town tradition he’d rather forget with the woman whose kiss he can’t forget. She frustrates him and drives him nuts but he’s had more fun giving her a hard time about the bridal festival than he has in years.
And their fun is just starting…
Despite their rocky past, these two wounded souls have more in common than they expect. They’ve both loved and lost, they’ve both tried to move on, and now they’ve both been been banned from the local church confessional after…well, they’re not supposed to talk about it. But by joining forces for the sake of Bliss, they might find the courage and the sparks to risk love one more time.

Throne of Glass
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas is $1.99 at Amazon! This deal could be expiring soon; I’m on a plane! This is the first book in the very popular YA fantasy series, Throne of Glass. Readers seem to be split on the heroine – some found her pretty kickass, while others thought she was pretty full of herself.
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Burke does have a tendency to OTT drama – at least she does in her historicals.
Wow, it’s been ages since I’ve read that Scott but I remember the title.
I read The Bawdy Bride way back in the Old Skool days, but the only thing I remember about it is wondering at the end, “Why did they use that title when it did not apply to the character at all?”
Speaking of contemporary, I just read the first two books in Courtney Milan’s Cyclone series and enjoyed them very much.
I read most of the Throne of Glass series and found it full of good ideas badly carried out. Really boring to read. DNF, though many people really like it.
”… but others loved the big, meddling family”
Oh LORD NO! Keep it away from me.
