Contemporary in the last five years?
Headhunter helps heroine find job with hero.
Hero started a cosmetic company because surfboard wax? he invented also worked for personal grooming. His girlfriend was murdered. There’s a huge building size portrait of her face on the wall outside the office.
Near the end, the hero finds out a homeless person killed his ex-girlfriend, perhaps with a penknife that the hero or his girlfriend gave the homeless person. Hero breaks up with the heroine, but watches her place from across the street. I think what spurs the hero to move forward is when the heroine’s brother takes her out and hero thinks the brother is a date.
Well this is certainly something.

I know that I’ve read this and I was pretty sure it was either by Penelope Ward or Vi Keeland. I checked my ebooks and it’s Bossman by Vi Keeland.
OOOOhhh, the first HABO I’ve ever known! Bossman by Vi Keeland. It’s such a great book, but after glomming all of there books, I get tired of the “old girlfriend/boyfriend causing relationship troubles” trope.
Woohoo! That’s it! Thanks so much. Mystery solved!
I actually knew this one! The homeless gut with a pen knife was the key. Great description of the book.
When I first read the title of the post, my imagination went…well….let’s say Brazilian. So happy to be wrong.
