Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Secret Sister

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO comes from Julia, who is hoping to finish a series she started:

I read a series a few years ago that had between 2 and 4 books, each one about a brother in a family.

In what seemed like the last book a secret sister is discovered and I think there was going to be a next book about her that wasn’t out at the time. I think the sister is the daughter of their mother who ran off when they were young, but I could be wrong.

The series is set in the States and I know the sister lives in a smallish town, but I’m not sure if the main series is. Although, the series did have a small town feel. But honestly it could also be that they’re very wealthy.

I can remember liking them but nothing else about them apart from the epilogue scene where they pull up to the sisters house.

Ring any bells?

This sounds like something from Maisey Yates, although I don’t recall which books or series

  2. Jessica Harrison says:

Julie Garwood had a series about three brothers and a sister, I can’t remember if they knew about the sister or found out about her. The series had four books and was rose themed. For the Roses, One White Rose, One Red Rose, and One Pink Rose. I *think* there might have been another book called Come the Spring that was also part of this story arc. Setting is the American west in the 1800’s

  3. Sarah says:

This sounds like The Bowen Boys series by Elle Aycart, and there never was a final book even though there’s definitely the setup for it with the secret sister at the end.

  4. Lisa F says:

@Jessica – For the Roses was about a band of orphans who adopt/take care of one another, they aren’t biologically related, though the sister does discover her bio parents eventually.

  5. Sally says:

I know I’ve read this one! But I think I only read the one with the sister not the rest of the series. I think it was in Wyoming and maybe Christmas time? Did she teach dance? Argh! On the tip of my tongue…

  6. Janice Cass says:

could it be the Thorne Brothers series by Lee Kilraine?

  7. a traveller says:

Was it the Hometown Heartbreaker series by Susan Mallery?

Didn’t that start with these three or four brothers whose father cheated on their mother, and there was some running story on how their whole family only had sons because none of the men ever actually loved their wives – and then of course, they all started having only daughters as they fell in love one book at a time. So when the secret sister showed up they were all shocked that their father had actually loved the mother of the secret sister.

Did any of that make sense?

  8. Carolyn M says:

Could it be The Morgan Ranch series by Kate Pearce? There are four brothers; the mother and baby daughter disappeared years ago. It’s sort of a mystery story over six books but each romance is primary in each book.

The daughter’s book is The Rancher, book 6, I believe.

  9. Katrina says:

The Maisey Yates series is Copper Ridge, which is cowboys. So that might be it?

  10. denise says:

Jane Porter’s Taming of the Sheenans (brothers series) overlaps with CJ Carmichael’s Carrigans of the Circle C (sisters) in the fictional town of Marietta, Montana. Callan Carrigan discovers she’s actually a Sheenan sister in A Cowgirl’s Christmas.

There’s also a missing Sheenan brother, and he gets a book late in the series.

These are all under the Montana Born Imprint at Tule Publishing.

  11. Janel Robinson says:

Possibly Sandra Owens Aces & Eights series…

  12. rsagirl says:

Totally agree that it’s The Morgan Ranch series! Their father also disappeared (?) and was suspected of murdering their mother…

  13. Julia McCarthy says:

Hi Everyone, I’m the person in search of the series. Thank you all so so much for commenting! I’m fairly certain the male characters weren’t cowboys and I don’t think there was a murder suspicion. I did read the first few Bowen boy books but I reread the third one recently ish and thought that was the final one and there is no secret sister there. Now that I’ve realised there is a 4th one “Jacked Up” it could be that one and I forgot I read it so I’m going to investigate. These are all great recommendations anyway though

  14. Sarah says:

Julia, I grabbed Jacked Up to check this morning (it’s on KU) and it’s the very end of that book, she’s a secret sister their mom gave up for adoption. They’ve pulled up to her house & find her in the middle of a situation and it ends there on sort of a cliffhanger, setting up a 5th book that never happens!

  15. Julia McCarthy says:

I bought it on kindle this afternoon. It’s exactly right. I just totally forgot I read the book and must have gotten it out of the library since I didn’t have it on the kindle.

    Thanks so much everyone!

  16. lils says:

@Julia Did you check out Hard Limits? I saw it referenced as Bowen Boys 4.5. It is Nico and Paige. Not sure what the sisters name is. It’s a novella.

  17. Yaara says:

Was it the Penny Reid books? Beard is in all the titles

  18. MMV says:

@yaara it looks like the book was found (see comment 15) unless there’s more than one Julia?

  19. Julia McCarthy says:

I mean the book I was thinking of is the unwritten one post jacked up about a sister by Elle aycart but I’m certain the trope occurs more often and could well have popped up elsewhere.
