You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!
This HaBO comes from Jessica, who says this one is Regency romance:
I was referred here from a book group on Facebook bc I’m trying to find back a book with no success…yet!
Here’s what I remember: The heroine is first introduced wearing a one shoulder blue dress at a house party/weekend party where she meets the hero. They bump into each other a few times after that.
There is a nasty girl who decides to send notes to both but address them as one from the heroine to heroine and one from a cousin, I think to heroine. They get busted together and tada scandal.
It had an HEA but I’m fuzzy on the details there. Any help is greatly appreciated.
This is a tough one, Bitchery!
I think it’s Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught. I remember that dress from their second meeting and the notes had a spelling error.
Both the one-shoulder dress and the weekend house party sound much more interwar than Regency… any chance we’d have more success tracing the plot to a different historical period?
For sure it’s Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught. One of my favorites. Elizabeth chose that dress herself so it’s a cut above the usual debutante’s dress.
I don’t remember the dress because it has been so long, but the note thing at the house party definitely happened in Almost Heaven by McNaught. So I agree with the people who already said that one.
