Slightly Married

Slightly Married by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in the Bedwyn Saga, which is a favorite amongst romance readers. Though Balogh’s newer historicals haven’t really worked for me, I’m curious about this one. Have you read it?
Meet the Bedwyns…six brothers and sisters—men and women of passion and privilege, daring and sensuality…Enter their dazzling world of high society and breathtaking seduction…where each will seek love, fight temptation, and court scandal…and where Aidan Bedwyn, the marriage-shy second son, discovers that matrimony may be the most seductive act of all.…
Like all the Bedwyn men, Aidan has a reputation for cool arrogance. But this proud nobleman also possesses a loyal, passionate heart—and it is this fierce loyalty that has brought Colonel Lord Aidan to Ringwood Manor to honor a dying soldier’s request. Having promised to comfort and protect the man’s sister, Aidan never expected to find a headstrong, fiercely independent woman who wants no part of his protection…nor did he expect the feelings this beguiling creature would ignite in his guarded heart. And when a relative threatens to turn Eve out of her home, Aidan gallantly makes her an offer she can’t refuse: marry him…if only to save her home. And now, as all of London breathlessly awaits the transformation of the new Lady Aidan Bedwyn, the strangest thing happens: With one touch, one searing embrace, Aidan and Eve’s “business arrangement” is about to be transformed…into something slightly surprising.

Spacer’s Cinderella by Adria Rose is $2.99! I’ve seen this talked about everywhere on social media; it’s a Cinderella retelling set in space. Readers seemed divided on the heroine, but I think I’ll be taking a chance on this one.
A broken shoe. A forbidden ball. A sexy cyborg with a secret.
Born on an abandoned colony barely held together by sealant tape and hope, Aurora Sato is at the very bottom of the social pecking order. Hard work and brains got her into a coveted spot in the quadrant’s top university… But her new supervisor is a woman who’s not about to let an upstart like Aurora get anything close to a break.
And a break is exactly what Aurora needs right now. Her home colony is dying and nobody is in any rush to save it or her family. Aurora’s research project is their last hope, but only if she can complete it in time — an impossible task.
One night out is all she’ll allow herself. One night to forget her troubles. She never expects to meet a man who dazzles all her senses. Magnus Thorne is a battle-hardened, ruthless cyborg. Rich, respected and powerful, he’s too much for innocent Aurora. For one magical night he makes her feel like a princess, awakening a longing she doesn’t know how to quell.
But Aurora is in more danger than she realizes. And Magnus isn’t about to let her face it alone, no matter how hard she tries to shut him out.
He’s determined to break every rule to save her from ruin. But will she trust him enough to let him?

One Bed for Christmas by Jackie Lau is FREE! This is a holiday novella with a friends to lovers romance and, as the title suggests, a forced proximity element.
Let me be clear: I’ve been friends with Caitlin Ng for more than a decade, and I’ve had a crush on her for just as long. And I’ve known, all that time, that I wasn’t her type.
When we met, we were both studying computer engineering at university. She was near the top of the class, and I was in danger of flunking out. Now, she’s a CEO, and I, well…
I’m wearing an inflatable T-Rex costume and dancing along to Christmas carols sung by an elderly barbershop quartet.
Yes, I’m being paid to do this.
And that’s how Caitlin finds me when she leaves work late in the middle of a snowstorm. She asks to stay with me because her house is farther away and her power is out. Of course, I say yes.
When the heat goes out in my apartment and she asks me to join her in bed to snuggle for warmth, I say yes, too.
But being so close to her is dangerous for my heart…or could a weekend of Christmas fun actually lead to the romance I desire?

Love and Other Scandals by Caroline Linden is $3.99! This is book 1 in the Scandalous series, which is described on GoodReads thusly: “A series in which a shocking book—Fifty Shades of Grey for the Regency era—has all of London talking and gives more than one young miss a mind for scandal.”
With Love and Other Scandals, bestselling and RITA Award–winning author Caroline Linden launches a scandalously sexy new historical romance series set in Regency England.
Joan Bennett is a breath away from being a spinster. She’s had four seasons without a suitor. After reading a shockingly sensuous book, Fifty Ways to Sin, Joan decides perhaps it’s time to stop being proper and start being sinful, while she’s still young enough to enjoy it. And what better partner than her brother’s drinking mate, Viscount Burke? He seems the type to know how to give a lady a lascivious adventure.
It seems that the viscount has qualms about trifling with a friend’s sister. That’s the way to end up betrothed. And he doesn’t want that—or does he?

One Bed for Christmas is not my favourite Jackie Lau book, but the price is right and it’s a good introduction to what her writing is like. Her books are such a breath of fresh air, with people I feel like I might know, dealing with problems that are not ridiculously over-blown (it seems to be harder and harder to find such stories). And I have to admit, Baldwin Village was my old stomping grounds in the 1980s and it’s fun to read stories set there.
All four of these are pretty good, if I remember right!
I really liked Spacer’s Cinderella.
When the heroine of Slightly Married tells the hero that she’s not a virgin, he says that’s fine becausee “I’m not either.” Balogh doesn’t always work for me, and it’s been ages since I’ve tried her, but I will love her forever for that.
