  • Dance All Night

Dance All Night by Alexis Daria

RECOMMENDED: Dance All Night by Alexis Daria is 99c at select vendors! Elyse read this holiday novella and gave it an A-:

I thought the black moment was a little abrupt due to the light conflict, but overall my love for Nik and for the sheer, sweet fun that was Dance All Night made up for it.

Broadway hotshot Nik Kovalenko is a confirmed bachelor.

Ballroom champion Jess Davenport is a bona fide Scrooge.

Last year, they shared a midnight kiss at a New Year’s Eve party that made both of them believe—briefly—in the magic of the holiday season. The magic was cut short when Nik went on tour the next day, but he never stopped thinking about that kiss—or Jess.

When the holidays roll back around, Nik runs into Jess again. He doesn’t want to spend another year pining for the Scrooge who got away, so he tells Jess he’ll stay if she’ll give him a shot at being her Christmas Present.

Jess thinks he’s full of it, but she agrees to three dates. If Nik can make her believe in holiday magic in a place as un-wintery as Los Angeles—and convince her that he’s ready to stick around—she’ll give him a chance. But he won’t know until New Year’s Eve. If she kisses him at midnight, he’ll have his answer…

  • Shadowshaper

    Shadowshaper by Daniel José Older

RECOMMENDED: Shadowshaper by Daniel José Older is $1.99! Sarah read this YA fantasy and gave it a B:

But when I was reading this book, I couldn’t put it down, and I devoured it in one afternoon. I found myself re-reading parts when I went to check my notes and highlights for this review, a sign that a re-read might be required.

Sierra Santiago was looking forward to a fun summer of making art, hanging out with her friends, and skating around Brooklyn. But then a weird zombie guy crashes the first party of the season. Sierra’s near-comatose abuelo begins to say “No importa” over and over. And when the graffiti murals in Bed-Stuy start to weep…. Well, something stranger than the usual New York mayhem is going on.

Sierra soon discovers a supernatural order called the Shadowshapers, who connect with spirits via paintings, music, and stories. Her grandfather once shared the order’s secrets with an anthropologist, Dr. Jonathan Wick, who turned the Caribbean magic to his own foul ends. Now Wick wants to become the ultimate Shadowshaper by killing all the others, one by one. With the help of her friends and the hot graffiti artist Robbie, Sierra must dodge Wick’s supernatural creations, harness her own Shadowshaping abilities, and save her family’s past, present, and future.

  • Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox

Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox by Forthright

Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox by Forthright is $1.99 at Amazon! Forthright is a popular fanfic writer, so if you’ve read her works, I’d love to know more about them! This is a fantasy romance and the first in a series. Readers loved the world building, but wished the heroine were more dynamic and less passive.

Tsumiko inherits an ancestral home, a vast fortune, and a butler who isn’t exactly human.

Humanity is rocked by the Emergence of a people who call themselves the Amaranthine. They are our myths and legends come to life. Neither human nor animal, yet embracing qualities of both, the inhuman races inspire both awe and fear. Every newsfeed is clogged with updates about the peace process, but some places don’t concern themselves with worldly affairs. Like the girls’ school run by Saint Midori’s of the Heavenly Lights, where Tsumiko Hajime grew up.

A letter from a long-lost aunt names Tsumiko heiress to an ancestral estate and its accompanying fortune. Only the legacy comes with an aloof heirloom: an inhuman butler. Argent has served the Hajime family for centuries, and Tsumiko must renew the generational bond or he’ll die. Argent hates her for the hold she has over him, but he craves her soul almost as much as he craves his freedom.

  • Practice Perfect: The Complete Series

Practice Perfect: The Complete Series by Ruby Lang

Practice Perfect: The Complete Series by Ruby Lang is $2.99! This series collects all three books in the Practice Perfect series, which features both diverse protagonists and hot doctors! The complete set is around 750 pages, so the romances may be a teeny bit on the shorter side.

Three couples discover love is the best medicine in Ruby Lang’s acclaimed medical romance series, now available in a value-priced ebook collection.

Acute Reactions: The man with allergies never gets the girl, but that may change for restaurateur Ian Zamora when he makes an appointment with Dr. Petra Lale. When sparks fly, a little romance just might be chicken soup for their hearts. But do two career-driven people inexperienced in relationships stand a chance of finding the right prescription for love?

Hard Knocks: Neurologist Helen Chang Frobisher is writing op-eds against Portland’s new hockey rink to try to prevent concussive brain injuries like the one that plagues her father. Oregon Wolves player Adam Magnus is fighting to build a successful career on the ice. But while the two spar in public over the future of a sports franchise on the brink, in private, they battle an impossible attraction.

Clean Breaks: Sarah Soon’s brush with cancer shook this usually confident OB/GYN. Jake Li, her brother’s annoying high school BFF who betrayed her trust, is the last person she wants to see, but the now disturbingly hot social worker has begun hanging around. Newly divorced Jake knows he shouldn’t look for a serious relationship already, but he’s always been helplessly drawn to Sarah’s vivaciousness. Can he show her that he’s worthy of a second chance?

  1. That’s an incredible deal for the Ruby Lang books! She’s a fantastic writer.

  2. Lisa F says:

    All great choices!

  3. JudyW says:

Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox was a book recommendation on the Ilona Andrews blog last year I think? Anyway, I forgot it was on my kindle so SCORE!

  4. MaryK says:

I loved Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox. (Ilona Andrews gives good romance recs!) The second book was good but the romance wasn’t as prominent and there are a lot of subplots. I really wanted a direct sequel to that book to get resolution and find out what happens to a couple of the characters, but book three is about different characters in a different country. I haven’t finished book three. There’s a LOT going on, six POV’s, and three relationships. I got tired of all the jumping around and put the book aside in frustration. It’s disappointing because the plot and characters are good, it’s just TOO MUCH. You know those soap operas that have 5 to 10 minute scenes, each with different characters? That’s what book three is like and I can’t handle it.

  5. Jerrica says:

Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox is very much a YA story and a very vanilla story at that. I enjoy Forthright and have read all her fanfics. Her completed Inuyasha (Sesshoumaru & Kagome) at fanfiction dot net are amazing. The story titled “Lord Charming” is one of my all-time favorites fanfics! If you’re not sure about the buying the novels, try some of her free stories first.

@MaryK I agree with you about book 3…it felt uneven. It combined elements of two different fanfics into one book and alluded to too many extraneous subplots. But, book 2 was very good (IMHO the best so far) and her short stories still show promise…so I hold on to hope for book 4.
