Links: American Girl Dolls, Dancing, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Happy Wednesday!

In New England, we’ve already had snow. I’ve lived here seven years and this is the earliest I’ve seen it, and I am definitely not ready.

Who else is dealing unpleasant winter temps already?

Check out this cool event happening at Love’s Sweet Arrow on December 7th! There will be an author chat, a cookie swap, and romance bingo.

Christine Blasey Ford received the ACLU Courage Award recently. Jezebel has a good write up of the event and a video of Blasey Ford’s speech.

Enjoy these photos of men with their lovely cats! I believe the photographer has produced a coffee table book with the photos, and may make a great gift for someone for holidays.

As an avid podcast listen, I was surprised to learn there’s a podcast, hosted by two historians, that examines the American Girl dolls and books. Well, sign me up!

I saw this yesterday and I cannot stop watching it. It’s literally the sweetest thing.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

You need to check out @thekirstenproject on Instagram!

Are you guys allowing pop-up ads? Last night and today, every time I open the site, I get a Febreeze ad at the bottom of the screen. Also, I’m seeing non-romance ads on the sidebars (like for concerts, MD Anderson, Wotoba, and Net Credit). Is this a new thing? This is happening for me on more than one device.

Also there’s an ad running for a book called HOBBLE and that cover is the stuff of nightmares!

  3. SB Sarah says:

@DiscoDollyDeb – that was quick! We are trying something new with a media company, but I didn’t realize it would take effect so quickly. Yes, we’re trying additional ad options. I’d hoped the footer banner would be unobtrusive and easy to X out of. Please let me know if you’re having problems? Thank you!

  4. Escapeologist says:

Omg that dance is the most adorable thing ever! I’m sitting here at my desk with a big goofy grin 😀

P.S. Someone said in the Twitter thread these two went on a second date after the show.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one seeing the new ads. Thought I may have gotten a virus. I totally understand needing to test new ads. But the bottom banner ads are popping up to take up half the screen every few seconds while scrolling down page or typing out comments. I’m having to X out of the popups before I can finish typing a full sentence. This is on my mobile Chrome. I’m not sure how it is one the desktop yet.

Just wanted to pass that along. Maybe the popups timing can be tweaked to allow commentors more time to type and scroll.

  6. SB Sarah says:

@Marci – thank you for the heads up about that! I’m so sorry you thought something was wrong. I’ll see what I can do to stop the banners enlarging. Are these on your mobile device? Thank you!

  7. Marci says:

@SB Sarah. Yes it’s on my Samsung Galaxy device using the Chrome mobile browser. The popping up while typing could just mean I need to learn to type faster.

  8. A says:

I’m having the same experience with ads popping up to cover half the screen (in safari on iPhone). I love your content here, and hope it’s possible to get the necessary ad revenue in a less infuriating format.

  9. No, the Other Anne says:

Ditto the ad experience. I have to x out multiple times both in Firefox on a Mac and in Safari on iPhone. Honestly, I’ve loved the site for years, but I’ll be a much less frequent visitor if this continues. 🙁

  10. Tess says:

The choreography was splendid. I watched it before I read what it was now I want to know what happened next. All the feelings

  11. SB Sarah says:

Hey Other Anne: I’m sorry about that. I’m looking into the re-appearance and I’m sorry it’s bothersome. Thank you for letting me know!
