His Perfect Partner
His Perfect Partner by Priscilla Oliveras is 99c! This contemporary romance features a single dad hero and a dance teacher heroine. Sonali Dev recommended this on a previous podcast episode. She did mention that at times, the book felt more like women’s fiction with a focus on family than a romance.
Three very different Latina sisters. Three dazzling talents with ambition—and passion—to burn. And in this warm-hearted, sexy new series, three chances to figure out if the path to success can also lead to lasting love . . .
Ad executive Tomás Garcia shouldn’t even be thinking about his daughter’s alluring dance teacher, Yazmine Fernandez. Burned by a shattering divorce, he’s laser-focused on his career—and giving his young daughter, Maria, the secure home she deserves. Plus, he’s certain that with her talent, Yaz will be leaving Chicago and heading back to Broadway as soon as she can. But Yaz’s generous spirit and caring concern are sparking a desire Tomás can’t resist—and doesn’t want to let go . . .For Yaz, good-looking workaholics like Tomás simply can’t be part of her life ever again. She owes it to herself to get back her confidence and fulfill the dreams her papá could not. She’s glad to spend time with Maria—and taste the family life she feels she can never have. And she’s sure that she and Tomás can keep their attraction under control because there’s so much at stake. But each unexpected intimacy, each self-revelation, makes the fire between them grow hotter with every step—and every risk to their hearts . . .

The Unleashing
RECOMMENDED: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! Yeah, you’re reading that right. If you were at RT a couple years ago, Sarah squeed about this so hard, so thanks to everyone who told us about this sale. And she did a little drive by squee during a review for the second book, The Undoing:
Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)
WINGING IT
Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.
In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstöm has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.
But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

The Winner Takes It All
The Winner Takes It All by Jennifer Dawson is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance with an ice queen heroine and forced proximity. Readers loved the humor in this one and the chemistry between the hero and heroine. However, others found the hero’s possessiveness turned them off. Many of the books in this series are on sale.
For two stubborn people…
Corporate mogul Shane Donovan sees the ultra-cool, collected Cecilia Riley as an ice queen–even if he can’t deny that, on the surface, she’s a work of perfection his body can’t ignore. Forced to spend two weeks in the same house for his sister’s upcoming wedding, Shane senses that deep down Cecilia mirrors his need. And he’s determined to draw her into a sexy game that will melt away her reserve. . .
Losing is not an option…
Career-driven Cecilia Riley has just enough free time in her schedule to head out of town for her brother’s wedding. But her agenda is thrown for a loop by the presence of Shane. Though his over-confident attitude leaves a lot to be desired, his insanely hot body has kept Cecilia up nights. Unsure what game Shane is playing, Cecilia takes the bait, bent on resisting him at all costs.
But as Shane and Cecilia discover, temptation follows no rules…

I Must Say
I Must Say by Martin Short is $1.99! This book was mentioned by Sarah back in a previous Whatcha Reading, and seemed to really enjoy the audiobook, which is also narrated by Short. A lot of the Goodreads reviews seem to echo that same statement – the audio version is way better. It’s also recommended for fans of Short, though if you don’t really like the guy, his sense of humor might wear on you.
In this engagingly witty, wise, and heartfelt memoir, Martin Short tells the tale of how a showbiz obsessed kid from Canada transformed himself into one of Hollywood’s favorite funnymen, known to his famous peers as the “comedian’s comedian.”
Short takes the reader on a rich, hilarious, and occasionally heartbreaking ride through his life and times, from his early years in Toronto as a member of the fabled improvisational troupe Second City to the all-American comic big time of Saturday Night Live, and from memorable roles in such movies as ¡Three Amigos! and Father of the Bride to Broadway stardom in Fame Becomes Me and the Tony-winning Little Me.
He reveals how he created his most indelible comedic characters, among them the manic man-child Ed Grimley, the slimy corporate lawyer Nathan Thurm, and the bizarrely insensitive interviewer Jiminy Glick. Throughout, Short freely shares the spotlight with friends, colleagues, and collaborators, among them Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Gilda Radner, Mel Brooks, Nora Ephron, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Paul Shaffer, and David Letterman.
But there is another side to Short’s life that he has long kept private. He lost his eldest brother and both parents by the time he turned twenty, and, more recently, he lost his wife of thirty years to cancer. In I Must Say,Short talks for the first time about the pain that these losses inflicted and the upbeat life philosophy that has kept him resilient and carried him through.
In the grand tradition of comedy legends, Martin Short offers a show-business memoir densely populated with boldface names and rife with retellable tales: a hugely entertaining yet surprisingly moving self-portrait that will keep you laughing—and crying—from the first page to the last.

I read the Jennifer Dawson a few months back and found it pretty problematic. The hero was pushy and possessive and generally a jerk. In one sex scene, he wants to take a picture of her exposed, and he thinks to himself that it’s okay if she says no but it will put a permanent wedge between them, which felt very wrong to me. She’s allowed not to share your kinks, dude. (Don’t worry, she does share his kinks, because of course she does.) Also the way food is treated in this book (and the series in general) is weird? It’s taken to be a sign that the heroine is having character growth when she eats three huge cupcakes in one sitting. That should have made her sick, if her normal diet was as described in the book. Couldn’t she eat one cupcake? Why three? Why is character measured in cupcakes anyway? But there was a weird lack of balance in the series as a whole.
I kept reading because I really liked the heroine. (This was how I felt about the whole series, actually: each pairing, I hated one of the leads but really liked the other one.) She was great, and I wish she’d had a better partner.
Shane Donovan* from DAYS OF OUR LIVES would NOT approve
*aka Mr. Sheffield from THE NANNY and Armand from TILL WE MEET AGAIN the miniseries.
The entire Oliveras series is great and I stan her to high heaven.
I really liked the Short bio as well and it worked for me outside of an audio capacity.
@Suleikha Snyder – Points for the Days reference!
@Suleika Snyder- OMG awesome DAYS joke! I wonder if anyone in the editing and review process noticed the hero shares a name with one of the most iconic soap characters of all time? Seems like a quick Google search would have helped.
Loved His Perfect Partner. It’s an absolute bargain at 99 cents.
