  • Minimum Wage Magic

Minimum Wage Magic by Rachel Aaron

Minimum Wage Magic by Rachel Aaron is 99c at Amazon! It looks like this deal is good for the next two days. Sarah is a big fan of Aaron’s urban fantasy books and mentioned this on a previous Hide Your Wallet. Have you read this one?

The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder to cover the tab.

That’s when they call me. My name is Opal Yong-ae, and I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage with an art history degree who’s employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one—there’s a reason I wear bite-proof gloves—but when you’re deep in debt in a lawless city where gods are real, dragons are traffic hazards, and buildings move around on their own, you don’t get to be picky about where your money comes from. You just have to make it work, even when the only thing of value in your latest repossessed apartment is the dead body of the mage who used to live there.

  • Sterling

    Sterling by Dannika Dark

Sterling by Dannika Dark is 99c! I bought this one after it was recommended to me on Goodreads. A lot of the reviews are divided, (one star versus five stars) but perhaps the 99c sale price will convince some of you to give it a chance and report back!

Zoë Merrick lived an ordinary life until the night she was brutally attacked. She narrowly escapes death, rescued by Adam Razor, an ex-soldier who offers her friendship and a place to stay. But something else is different. Zoë is unable to control an unexplainable energy coursing through her body.

Justus De Gradi is a man who can teach her that control. She meets him by chance – a man who’s handsome, arrogant, and not entirely human. He reveals that she’s a Mage – an immortal made of light, not magic. Zoë must now make a choice: Rebuild her life in the human world with the man who saved her, or live with Justus and learn how to use her extraordinary gifts. Justus has sworn an oath to protect her life, but can he guard her from the one man who has a right to claim it?

Zoë learns the price of freedom…and the value of loyalty.

  • Baked Fresh

    Baked Fresh by Annabeth Albert

Baked Fresh by Annabeth Albert is 99c at most vendors and $2.99 at Barnes & Noble! This is a m/m romance set in Portland, Oregon with an age difference and adorable baker. Be warned, though, that this book is on the shorter side.

From its famous coffee to the mouthwatering fare at its cafés, restaurants, and bakeries, Portland, Oregon, has a lot to whet the appetite, including the hard-working men who serve it all up—hot, fresh, and ready to go—with no reservations…

Vic Degrassi is a baker on the rise, and it’s all thanks to his rare ability to make—and keep—his New Year’s resolutions. Whether it’s losing weight, giving up smoking, or graduating from culinary school, Vic goes after what he wants—and gets it. This year? He wants Robin Dawson, the sweet-hearted hottie who volunteers with him at the local homeless shelter.

When he learns that Robin is suddenly single after being unceremoniously dumped, Vic is more than happy to offer a shoulder to cry on—or at least a fresh-baked pastry to bite into. But it’s been a long time since Vic’s gone on a date, and he’s nervous about risking his friendship with Robin. So when their flirtation turns into a steamy night together, Vic and Robin have to figure out if they’re friends with benefits or lovers in the making, and if Robin is ready for something more than just a rebound. There’s only one way to find out: turn up the heat…

  • The Sinful Nights Bundle: Books 1-3

The Sinful Nights Bundle: Books 1-3 by Lauren Blakely

The Sinful Nights Bundle: Books 1-3 by Lauren Blakely is $2.99! This is a three-book bundle of erotic/BDSM romance, and each book features a different couple.

There’s a second chance story and a friends-with-benefits story, for example, and the three-book set has a 4.3-star average. Readers who liked it describe the series as “intense,” and very hot, though some mention some insta-love they didn’t like as much. The series continues after these three books, too. Have you read any of these?

    SWEET SINFUL NIGHTS
She was the one who got away…

Ten years ago, Brent Nichols let the love of his life slip through his fingers. It’s his greatest regret, especially since she’s all but disappeared. But when the gorgeous and captivating woman walks into his life unexpectedly, he’s determined to win her back. Whatever it takes, he won’t make the same mistake twice. Easier said than done…

Shannon Paige has hardened her heart to the man she was once engaged to be married to. After the way he left, and after the hell she’s been through with her checkered family, there’s no way she’s letting him into her life again. The problem is, the second she sees him, he’s more handsome and charming than before. And she’s torn between wanting to fight with him and wanting to sleep with him — maybe both. Soon they fall into each other’s arms, consumed with a desire that burns through the years.

But if these two fiery lovers are going to have a real second chance at this kind of intense, passionate, bone-deep love, he’ll have to give her his whole heart, and she’ll have to give up all the secrets from her messy past.  And that messy past is about to spill over into her carefully constructed present…

    SINFUL DESIRE
He’s gorgeous, charming and mysterious. She’s beautiful, brilliant and an open book. Together their chemistry is electric, but will his secrets tear them apart?

    Control…
It’s what Ryan Sloan values most. Control of his business, control of his secrets, control of his days and nights. With the way his life spiraled in the past, he needs to stay in charge of his present.

    Giving up control…
It’s what Sophie Winston craves. After a wildly successful career, she’s stepped away from the business world and is now focused on her work as her city’s most noted philanthropist. When she meets Ryan Sloan, the chemistry is scorching, and utterly undeniable. Their desire for each other runs red hot. He wants everything she’s willing to give him in bed, and she wants him to take her to new heights as only he can.

Soon, he has to have more. All of her — heart, mind and body.
The only trouble is, he hasn’t been honest about how he met her and the dangerous connection he has to her brother. When the truth is revealed, he’ll have to give more of himself than he’s bargained for or risk losing the only woman he’s ever let into his heart.

    SINFUL LONGING

He’s the inked brother. The one you’re wondering about. The bad boy of the family.
Colin Sloan has a past. He’s done things he’s not proud of, but he’s living differently now. Making changes in his life. Working hard, working out harder, and trying to win over one woman. He’s utterly crazy about Elle Mariano, and though the sex is epic, their friends-with-benefits arrangement just isn’t cutting it anymore. He wants all of her, and is determined to prove he’s what she needs in her life.

Elle is fiery, loyal, and in major lust with Colin Sloan. He’s everything she craves in a man — smart, sexy, kind — and a rock star between the sheets. But his past hits too close to home for her, and the people she has to protect. There isn’t room in her life for a relationship with Colin. Especially when she’s forced to keep a secret that could tear his family apart…

  1. Kate K.F. says:

Sport of Baronets by Theresa Romain is currently free and is the start of her turf books.

  2. cbackson says:

FWIW, I read the Dannika Dark book and would be firmly in the 1-star camp. It was awkwardly written (from a language perspective), the character arcs didn’t pass even my very generous sniff test for urban fantasy, and it suffers from a serious case of Heroine Who is the Most Special Beautiful Magical Girl Ever (with a side order of Every Man Who Sees Her Loves Her). Not worth your 99 cents, IMO.

  3. MaryK says:

I read and enjoyed Minimum Wage Magic by Rachel Aaron. It leans a little more YA than her Heartstrikers series and isn’t as intense. The romantic interest has some cyborg features if anybody looks for that.

  4. PamG says:

Also read and enjoyed Minimum Wage Magic and am looking forward to the next in the series. It is a tad spoilery if you haven’t read the Heartstrikers series. I’ve started the latter twice, but stalled out both times for reasons of the vague and twitchy sort. I expect to go back to it again and eventually finish it–just, not yet.

  5. Lisa F says:

I remember the Albert being pretty good. I need to try Minimum Wage Magic.

  6. Kit says:

Sterling hits all my rage factors:

    1) 1st person POV

    2) TSTL heroine

    3) worst of all a love triangle

So read a sample and nope not for me, just the first few paragraphs of “I’m a tough no attitude woman and I’ve had a hard life” and I stopped as I can guess she’s going to do something incredibly stupid and turn into a moron because… hot guy.

  7. Ren Benton says:

Friday, FANTASY LOVER by Sherrilyn Kenyon is $1.99. I had been on a long hiatus from romance when I acquired it unexpectedly in a big box of mysteries/thrillers. While it’s not the best book ever, it was my first PNR and the most excited I’d been about the genre as a whole in years.

  8. Pre-Successful Indie says:

That reminds me, I need to finish the Heartstrikers series! Had to cool it for a bit when the dragon family stuff got a little too Real. Is it weird that the best depiction of emotional abuse I’ve seen in a while was in a series about dragon shifters? I sure wasn’t expecting it, but whew. (in a good way, just in an “am I ready to dive into that today?” kinda way)

So if this new linked series is lighter, I am one hundred percent okay with that.
