Under the Wire
Under the Wire by HelenKay Dimon is 99c! Elyse loves this series and this is the fourth book in the Undercover Bad Boys series. Readers thought the balance of romance and suspense was spot on, but others felt the book added too many components to the suspense aspect and it got a little muddled. Any Dimon fans in the Bitchery?
The Bad Boys of the Alliance—a top-secret military security agency—are back for more in HelenKay Dimon’s sexy, action-packed series
Only one thing could pull Reid Armstrong away from a vacation he’s earned with every muscle in his finely honed body—learning that his former fiancée has disappeared on a top-secret science expedition in the middle of nowhere. Second chances don’t come often in Reid’s business, and he needs to prove his worth to Cara Layne or die trying.
Waking up to find her camp destroyed and her colleagues missing, Cara is a walking target. She can’t trust anyone, least of all Reid. Even if his skills get them out alive, he’s a heartache waiting to strike twice. Yet being in close proximity proves their connection burns hotter than ever.
The body count is rising, the enemy is getting closer, and soon Reid will be right back in the position that cost him everything—forced to choose between the woman he loves, and the job that’s his only hope of saving them both . . .

Dirty Magic
Dirty Magic by Jaye Wells is $1.99! This is book one in the Propero’s War urban fantasy series. Some readers warn that they couldn’t put this book down, while others felt the action was bogged down by worldbuilding. This book has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
The last thing patrol cop Kate Prospero expected to find on her nightly rounds was a werewolf covered in the blood of his latest victim. But then, she also didn’t expect that shooting him would land her in the crosshairs of a Magic Enforcement Agency task force, who wants to know why she killed their lead snitch.
The more Prospero learns about the dangerous new potion the MEA is investigating, the more she’s convinced that earning a spot on their task force is the career break she’s been wanting. But getting the assignment proves much easier than solving the case. Especially once the investigation reveals their lead suspect is the man she walked away from ten years earlier—on the same day she swore she’d never use dirty magic again.
Kate Prospero’s about to learn the hard way that crossing a wizard will always get you burned, and that when it comes to magic, you should be never say never.

Single Malt
Single Malt by Layla Reyne is $1.99! This is a gay romantic suspense novel with an age difference and a workplace romance. Hello catnip! I will warn that there appears to be a cliffhanger in this book, but the next one is available for $3.99. Reviewers had mostly good things to say about the pacing and characterization, and it has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.
The heart’s a resilient beast
Eight months after the car crash that changed everything, FBI agent Aidan Talley is back at work. New department, new case and a new partner. Smart, athletic and handsome, Jameson Walker is twelve years his junior. Even if Aidan was ready to move on—and he’s not—Jamie is off-limits.
Jamie’s lusted after Aidan for three years, and the chance to work with San Francisco’s top agent directly is too good to pass up. Aidan is prickly—to put it mildly—but a growing cyber threat soon proves Jamie’s skills invaluable.
Jamie’s talents paint a target on his back, and Aidan is determined to protect him. But with hack after hack threatening a high-security biocontainment facility, time is running out to thwart a deadly terrorist attack. They’ll have to filter out distractions, on the case and in their partnership, to identify the real enemy, solve the case and save thousands of lives, including their own.

The Darkest Promise
The Darkest Promise by Gena Showalter is $1.99! This is the thirteenth book in the Lords of the Underworld paranormal romance series. I think these can operate as a standalone, but if you know for sure, leave a comment below. Showalter specializes in alpha heroes, if that is or isn’t your catnip.
Gena Showalter returns with a sizzling Lords of the Underworld story about an iron-willed sovereign and the somber beauty who melts him with a glance…
Possessed by the demon of Misery, Cameo isn’t allowed to experience joy. If she dares, her memory is wiped clean. With no other recourse, she sneaks into a land more fantastical than any fairy tale, determined to find the one man with the key to her redemption.
Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual rules his kingdom with a single unwavering focus: to build his army and annihilate his enemies. Nothing distracts him—until Cameo. He is relentless in his quest to make her smile…and seduce her into his bed.
As dark forces conspire against them, threatening to destroy the fragile bond they’ve forged, the once-calm Lazarus grows crazed. Every heart-stopping kiss and wicked touch causes Cameo to teeter on the brink of happiness. But if she falls, she risks forgetting him forever…

For fans of urban fantasy, Brian McClellan’s UNCANNY COLLATERAL is free on Amazon today (it doesn’t appear to be available on B&N or Kobo). It follows the adventures of a supernatural repo man and his djinn sidekick as they try to solve a mystery for Death himself.
I was initially drawn to this book for the cover, which features the male protagonist in what’s normally a classic superheroine T&A pose, with his butt to the viewer and torso turned to flash his pecs, while his female partner is in a more classic power pose with her boobs obscured by his arm. I’m 15% in and it’s a pretty servicable read thus far, with damn fine writing.
@NomadiCat I read the sample and one-clicked.Thanks for the head’s-up.
And I like reading HelenKay Dimon. Yes, her plots can be busy and full, still fun, though.
SECURITY by Gina Wohlsdorf is $1.99. A luxury hotel with a skeleton crew preparing for opening day, the creepiness of invasive security, and a theatrically violent murderer. I’m a picky bitch and had NOTHING negative to say about this one.
Really enjoyed Layla Reyne’s intrigue/suspence Male/Male steamy romance series ‘Agents Irish and Whiskey’, of which Single Malt is Book 1. There is a related series Trouble Brewing by this author with cross over characters. Really well written and the romance is steamy hot, but with tender moments, and their friends in law enforcement always have their back.
No, the Lord’s of the Underworld series CAN NOT be read as stand alones. However, reading any but the first two or three can be dangerous to your drywall.
