  • The Lady Traveler’s Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen

The Lady Traveler’s Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen by Victoria Alexander

The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen by Victoria Alexander is $1.99! This is the first book in the Lady Travelers Society series and it has, you guessed it, lady travelers. Readers say the plot takes a while to pick up, but others say this historical romance is both sweet and funny.

Embark on the breathtaking romantic adventures of The Lady Travelers Society in the brand-new series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Victoria Alexander

Really, it’s too much to expect any normal man to behave like a staid accountant in order to inherit the fortune he deserves to support the lifestyle of an earl. So when Derek Saunders’s favorite elderly aunt and her ill-conceived—and possibly fraudulent—Lady Travelers Society loses one of their members, what’s a man to do but step up to the challenge? Now he’s escorting the world’s most maddening woman to the world’s most romantic city to find her missing relative.

While India Prendergast only suspects his organization defrauds gullible travelers, she’s certain a man with as scandalous a reputation as Derek Saunders cannot be trusted any farther than the distance around his very broad shoulders. As she struggles not to be distracted by his wicked smile and the allure of Paris, instead of finding a lost lady traveler, India just may lose her head, her luggage and her heart.

  • A Curse So Dark and Lonely

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

RECOMMENDED: A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer is $1.99 at Amazon! This one will probably expire any second now. This one was recommended to Carrie and she really enjoyed it, giving the book an A-:

I enjoyed the way this book both used and subverted Beauty and the Beast tropes. There’s a good blend of angst and humor and worldbuilding.

In a lush, contemporary fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Brigid Kemmerer gives readers another compulsively readable romance perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer.

Fall in love, break the curse.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.

Break the curse, save the kingdom.

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

  • Some Like It Wicked

Some Like It Wicked by Teresa Medeiros

Some Like It Wicked by Teresa Medeiros is $2.99! This is the first book in the Kincaid Highland series and features a Scottish heroine and her childhood friend. Readers enjoyed the sense of adventure, but found a lot of the scenes to be over the top and melodramatic.

    Some like it dangerous . . .

Highland beauty Catriona Kincaid cares nothing for propriety—or even her own safety—when she storms the grounds of Newgate Prison. Determined to return to Scotland and restore her clan’s honor, she seeks the help of Sir Simon Wescott, a disgraced nobleman and notorious rogue. She is prepared to offer him both wealth and freedom, but she never dreams the wicked rake will be bold enough to demand a far more sensual prize.

    Some like it seductive . . .

Simon is shocked to discover the tomboy he met long ago has blossomed into a headstrong temptress. Although he’s sworn off his dreams of becoming a hero, he can’t resist playing knight errant to Catriona’s damsel in distress. Both adventure and peril await them at her Highland home, where they will risk their lives to vanquish her enemies . . . and risk their hearts to discover a passion beyond their wildest dreams.

  • Whiteout

    Whiteout by Elyse Springer

Whiteout by Elyse Springer is 99c at Amazon! This one has been described as “twisty and mysterious…a little bit as if M. Night Shyamalan wrote gay romance.” However, some readers were iffy on the twists. Have you read this one?

Noah Landers wakes up one day with a headache and no memory of where—or who—he is. Jason, the man taking care of him, tries to fill in some of the blanks: they’re in a cabin in Colorado on vacation, and Noah slipped on ice and hit his head. But even with amnesia, Noah knows Jason is leaving out something important.

Jason O’Reilly is sexy as hell, treats Noah like he’s precious, and seems determined to make this the romantic getaway they’d apparently dreamed of together. But Noah’s more concerned that he’s trapped alone with Jason in the middle of a blizzard while his slowly-returning memories bring hints of secrets and betrayal.

Noah’s not sure what’s the truth and what’s a lie. But as he learns who he is—and who Jason is to him—he’s forced to reevaluate everything he believes about himself, about loyalty . . . and about love.

  1. Kareni says:

I found Whiteout to be an enjoyable read. At the time, I wrote “I wasn’t quite sure where the story was going which was a pleasant change. Plus there was a Rent (a favorite musical) connection.” Admittedly I remember little of it some two plus years later, but I have a memory like a sieve.

  2. Leigh Kramer says:

I loved Whiteout! I thought it had such a great twist and think the less you know going in, the better. However, [content warning] some of this approach had me worried about possible domestic violence BUT I can report there is no cause for concern. I also really loved the musical element of Noah’s story!

  3. Carole says:

I was disappointed in The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen. This was a very hard book to rate. Really enjoyed parts of the story, there were some clever, funny comments and banter and the growth of the Heroine was important, but parts dragged and people kept saying and doing WTH things, so I kept wavering between a C and C minus rating. I did not keep in my Ebook Library to re-read.

  4. Lisa F says:

I’ve heard mixed things about most of these; anyone have any faves from the pile?

  5. No, the Other Anne says:

I DNF’d The Lady Travelers Guide, and agree with @Carole that it was very uneven, and disappointing given the awesome premise. The dealbreaker for me was that the characters were in Paris for the World’s Fair (I think?), and yet there was very little about either Paris or the World’s Fair. Might as well have set it in a shopping mall during the January retail lull for all the environment mattered.

  6. Sydneysider says:

I also DNF’d The Lady Travelers Guide. Some parts were engaging, but as @Carole said it dragged and I eventually gave up.

  7. Stacey says:

I really, really enjoyed A Curse So Dark and Lonely – nicely different from anything else I’d been reading.

  8. Scene Stealer says:

The third book in the Bluewater Billionaires series is out, “Wild Open Hearts” by Kathryn Nolan. I couldn’t finish it. The Luna da Rosa that appeared in the first two books is missing in this book. This Luna is boring and I didn’t connect with the hero. I skipped to the extra chapter to see how the story turned out.

  9. Ren Benton says:

Saturday, TOIL & TROUBLE: 15 TALES OF WOMEN & WITCHCRAFT is $1.99. A 5-star review on Amazon by Curly Book Owl graciously lists potential triggers for each story. Authors included are Tehlor Kay Mejia, Andrea Cremer, Tesse Sharp, Lindsay Smith, Brandy Colbert, Sheveta Thakrar, Robin Talley, Nova Ren Suma, Zoraida Cordova, Breanna Yovanoff, Kate Hart, Jessica Spotswood, Anna Marie Mclemore, Emory Lord, and Elizabeth May.
