You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO comes from Rebecca, who is trying to find a paranormal romance or a book with paranormal elements:
This book was reviewed or recommended, perhaps in the comments in the last couple of years. I read the sample in kindle, but didn’t put it on a wish list or buy it.
It was a modern day werewolf story, where werewolves were sequestered and werewolfism was a recessive genetic issue. So you might have a werewolf great grandparent and not realize you were one until you got in a high stress situation, then you had to go into a hidden werewolf town.
There was a single dad whose daughter was going into kindergarten and he reassured her that everything would be all right, but she got stressed and turned into a werewolf puppy and was taken away. Her dad gets a secret map to the werewolf town she is in and goes to confront the people who took her.
Do you remember this book? Googling werewolf kindergarten doesn’t help.
I don’t think we reviewed this, but it definitely may have appeared in the comments.

Is it Off the Beaten Path by Cari Z.?
This is definitely Off the Beaten Path by Cari Z. – and I think I read it because of SBTB.
Yaay! That’s it. Unfortunately it’s no longer for sale as an ebook at Amazon or Dreamspinner press. I’m not sure I want to spend $15-30 for a paperback or an audiobook.
Jeannette would you recommend this book?
I should have mentioned that I wondered if the ebook is unavailable due to Dreamspinner’s financial issues. There is a comment on the Writer’s Beware site about them.

If you have Hoopla through your library system, an ebook of it is available there. For free!
@RebeccaA I liked it and rated it a 3/5 as well as re-reading it at least once. It is a different take on the werewolf genre and I wish that Cari Z. had written more in the same world.
FYI- Cari Z. also wrote Changing Worlds, a sci-fi romance which I rated 4/5
Thanks Mickie T.
The author blogged in September she would probably try to get her rights reverted from DSP, but republishing takes time and money, both of which are in short supply.

Check again in a few months and you may have better luck finding your preferred format. (Also, if you buy print or audio that’s still listed despite rights reversion, DSP will likely do something with the royalties other than pay the author, so…)
Ren Benton.
Thanks for that. I can wait until things get sorted out, now that I know the name. And the author has some books at my library, so I can see if I like her writing style.
It’s so sad to see DSP go the way of other publishers. I still remember Dorchester Publishing going down (2011), and how many authors that affected.
