Duke of Darkness
Duke of Darkness by Anabelle Bryant is 99c This is the second book in the Three Regency Rogues series and the first and third books are also on sale! This is a romance between a man and his ward, which I know is catnip for some of you. However, some readers felt the book lacked a tremendous amount of historical accuracy.
London, 1817
The Duke of Wharncliffe, Devlin Ravensdale, is devastated when he receives a missive announcing the death of his only relative, Aunt Min. Consumed with guilt, he regrets not having visited her in years, despite that he has chosen a reclusive lifestyle to hide his secretive past. Saddened by the loss, he dutifully honors his aunt’s last wish, to take responsibility of a young ward, Alex, and arrange a suitable marriage.
Reluctant, yet determined, Devlin sets off to collect his young charge, only to discover the he is a she, and Alexandra is stunningly beautiful…posing an unexpected temptation.
Tasked with finding an eligible bachelor, Devlin is forced back into society, a world where he has something of a dark reputation. Worse yet, it seems the beguiling beauty has a secret of her own to hide. Still, finding a husband for Alexandra shouldn’t prove difficult as long as he’s able to let her go.

Brooklynaire
Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen is $2.51 at Amazon! Elsewhere, it’s $3.99. This is the fourth book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series and the first book in the spin-off Brooklyn series. Though this could be reads as a standalone, readers say there’s a lot of build up to this romance in the previous books. It has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads.
A sexy new standalone from USA Today bestseller Sarina Bowen.
You’d think a billion dollars, a professional hockey team and a six-bedroom mansion on the Promenade would satisfy a guy. You’d be wrong.
For seven years Rebecca has brightened my office with her wit and her smile. She manages both my hockey team and my sanity. I don’t know when I started waking in the night, craving her. All I know is that one whiff of her perfume ruins my concentration. And her laugh makes me hard.
When Rebecca gets hurt, I step in to help. It’s what friends do. But what friends don’t do is rip off each others’ clothes for a single, wild night together.
Now she’s avoiding me. She says we’re too different, and it can never happen again. So why can’t we keep our hands off each other?

Until You’re Mine
Until You’re Mine by K. Langston is 99c! This is the second book in the Mine series. The first book is FREE and the rest of the books are also 99c! Talk about a bargain. There’s a whiff of class differences and while the book can be read as a standalone, readers said you’d be more familiar with the hero if you read the book before it.
Taking big risks has always been Archer Brook’s way of life. It’s what has to be done in order to get what you want, and he knows that better than anyone. Archer may have been born into a life of wealth and privilege, but he’s proven time and time again that his success is a result of his own true grit and determination. The savvy businessman is an experienced player in the game of life, always knowing when to ante up or when to cash out.
Love, on the other hand, is a game he’d rather not play. He’s loved and lost before and it’s not something he wants to ever experience again.
Life has never been easy for Katy Vaughn. The preacher’s daughter turned small town rebel has seen her fair share of heartbreak, and she’s tired. Katy is done with men who have no idea what they want or how to treat a woman. She wants a real man. One who can give her everything she’s ever dreamed of. One who will give her everything she needs. Archer wants to be that man for her but there’s one condition.
He refuses to give her his heart.
Temptation is sweet, but surrendering to it could cost him more than he ever bargained for.

Wild Dirty Secret: A Boxed Set
Wild Dirty Secret by Skye Warren is 99c! This is a boxed set containing three contemporary romances from the Chicago Underground series. The set doesn’t quite break 500 pages, so these romances are on the shorter side. I haven’t read any of Warren’s books, but if you have, do let us know in the comments what readers can expect!
THREE BOOKS IN THE CHICAGO UNDERGROUND SERIES! Over 400 pages long!
WILD
Once upon a time I was the girl who had everything, the clothes, the car. The rich dad who spoiled me. But the truth was, the only thing I had was my body. I used it to buy my way out. I took a bite of the apple knowing full well what would happen.
That’s how I became a call girl. That’s the story of how I ended up in hell.
DIRTY
There’s no escape for me. I’m tied to some of the scariest men in Chicago. Bound so tight I’ll never get free.
I’ll do anything to survive, except bring Luke down with me. I won’t taint him. I won’t ruin the one good man I’ve ever met. I won’t turn him into a dirty cop. Except he refuses to let me go.
SECRET
I’m the one with the dark past, the scarlet letter, the soul so black there’s no hope of redemption. At least, that’s what I always believed…
Luke has secrets of his own, and the more I search, the more I’m afraid of what I’ll find. But I have to know. My survival depends on it.

I like Skye Warren, but her work can get dark. She excels at showing how damaged people are attracted to each other because sometimes only another damaged person can understand how deep the dysfunctionality can go.
Re BROOKLYNAIRE: I use the term “BROOKLYNAIRE Syndrome” for anytime we have had to wait so long for a couple’s story that we’ve already shipped them multiple times and the actual book turns out to be a bit of a let down.
The Duke of Darkness book sounds good but I have never read anything by the author? Anyone familiar with her work or this book?
I enjoyed Brooklynaire but do think this series has had diminishing returns with the subsequent books – still, if you’re a Sarina Bowen fan and/or a fan of the prior books in this series, it’s worth a read.
So I know the mighty Smart Bitches have discussed the ‘Abundance of Dukes’ issue before, but today due to a quick glance at the page I found a new game. On any romance title substitute the word “Dude” for “Duke”. “Dude of Darkness”, “The Trouble with Dudes”, “Dudes of War”, “How the Dudes Stole Christmas”, “A Dude in Shining Armor”, “No Dudes Allowed”, “How the Dude was Won”…and my current favorite “How Not to be Seduced by Dudes”. And that is just from the first page of my goodreads ‘Duke’ search….
@DiscoDollyDeb Re Brooklynaire Syndrom
I know EXACTLY what you mean – and now I finally have a term to describe the undetermined feeling of slight disappointment. So thank you!
I loved Brooklynaire, but I have to say that I read the series out of order so for me, there wasn’t so much build-up.
@DarienDG: A regional variant of that game substitutes “duck.”
@Minnie, my notes on Duke of Darkness say it has a good plot but was frustrating to read due to the writing style.
There are many spelling errors such as breeched/breached, amendable/amenable, compliment/complement, affected/effected, sheering/shearing, entendre/tendre, austere/austerity.
There are several instances of odd wording and vocabulary choices that were distracting enough to take me out of the story:
“He prided his excellent horsemanship.” [He prided himself on it.]
“He hated to molest one of the most common rumors bandied about in reference to his personae.” [How do you molest a rumor? Does he have more than one persona?]
“A proper tutor house” [Probably meant Tudor.]
“Alexandra reconciled no choice made sense but to remain at the Willows, even though the uncertainty of her future eroded like an ailment of the worst kind.” [Recognized? If her uncertainty is eroding then it is getting weaker and won’t be a problem. If it’s eroding something else, what is it eroding? And how does an ailment erode?]
“A looming hallstand complete with mirror aligned against the far wall.” [Did it make an alliance with another piece of furniture to wage war against the wall?]
“Julia instructed everyone of the rules.” [She informed them of the rules, or instructed them regarding the rules.]
“He reprimanded his foolish behavior.” [He can reprimand himself for behaving badly but I don’t think his behavior would listen if he reprimanded it directly.]
Then again, even if this kind of thing drives you crazy, it’s a still good price to try a new author.
@SusanE THANK YOU for all of those notes! I was excited by the plot, but I think those mistakes would drive me crazy.
@Ren Benton – yes, “How Not to be Seduced by Ducks” wins!
I personally would read “Dude of Darkness,” “Dudes of War,” and any number of other “Dude” books. Just found myself “The Dude’s Holiday” and “A Dude in the Night.” Come on, authors, an eager audience awaits
Then there’s The Duchess Deal: Girl Meets Duke
by Tessa Dare. Would that be The Dudette Deal: Girl Meets Dude?
