This has been driving me crazy. It’s an older book, maybe a series book.
It’s about a woman who grew up with an abusive father. Now she owns a woman run advertising company and works mostly with women clients. A man hires the firm and wants her to handle an account. Then he wants to date her. He is persistent until he breaks through and begins to discover the past events that affect her.
I want to say it’s old Barbara Delinsky or Sandra Brown.

Oh God, I’m almost 100 percent sure this is a Harlequin Superromance from the ’90s? I remember this but not the author or title argh!

I actually liked the book despite nowadays it probably wouldn’t be as well received, it’s Chances Are by Barbara Delinsky and the heroine works for the firm, she is not the boss. But yes, all the workers there are women and that is why she felt comfortable working there.
Delinsky is one of my old favorites and I totally forgot this was one of hers! Good work, Sonia!
