The Austen Playbook and Ayesha At Last

  2. Lisa says:

I devoured the Wedding Date, as I love enemies to lovers

  3. JudyW. says:

I cannot pick just *one* single book so…..the best historical I read was by a new author (very exciting!) that hopefully writes really fast. Mia Vincy who wrote “A Wicked Kind of Husband”.

For suspense I was on the edge of my seat for “No Exit” by Taylor Adams. Super creepy and intense.

For contemporary it was really hard because I read a LOT. For a more angsty contemporary I pick “Repeat” by Kylie Scott and for fun times I’m going with “The Unhoneymooners” by Christina Lauren (Since I read “The Kiss Quotient” by Hoang technically in Spring.

For Paranormal it’s gotta be “Sweep of the Blade” by Ilona Andrews followed closely by The Big Bad Wolf Series (Wolf at the Door) by Charlie Adhara.

    I love my books!

  4. Renee G says:

My favorite this summer was Where the Crawdads Sing,

  5. Gale Miller says:

Aside from rereads… Gail Carriger Reticence was a great end to a series. I also love Maria Vale Forever Wolf. And no list would be complete without Jodi Taylor An Argumentation of Historians!

  6. Sophie L says:

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo. I loved the descriptions of food and the splash of magical realism- it reminded me of Like Water For Chocolate, but with a great love interest and no abuse apologism! The Right Swipe, On The Come Up, Teach Me, and Red, White, & Royal Blue are all tied for a very close second.

  7. Kristi D says:

Red White and Royal Blue was sigh worthy. Plus The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. Love it!

  8. DFlores says:

I really loved Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors by Sonal Dev. It was a wonderful story and pulled me in so deeply that rode the emotional roller coaster of the characters until I was crying, laughing, and loving right all long with them. Great read any time of year!

  9. Reetta R says:

My best summer read so far has been Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews. This writing duo never disappoints. The romance was delightful and there was constant action and wonderful alien scheming. Can’t wait for the Hidden Legacy book 4, the next book of theirs coming out tomorrow. *squees*

  10. Debbye Campbell says:

I loved Red, White, and Royal Blue!

  11. Debbye Campbell says:

I loved Red, White, and Royal Blue.

  12. Bea says:

The standout book of recent months was definitely The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin. Fantasy, but not like any I’d ever read before.

I also loved Fire on the Ice by Tamsen Parker – a f/f athlete romance recommended by Smart Bitches <3

  13. SamC says:

Wake of Vultures by Lila Bowen – it has an indigenous, trans, bi or pan main character which sounds busy but in reality they are really well written – it’s an interesting read.

  14. Ada H. says:

My absolute favorite was Wicked and the Wallflower by Sarah Maclean. It was everything I love about historical romances!

  15. Lizzie R says:

This was new to me – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. So charming and utterly delightful.

  16. Amber says:

My favorite book I read this summer was The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian. It was the first Cat Sebastian book I have read, and I’m definitely going to look for more.

  17. Vasha says:

Favorite book this summer: The Great Divorce by Ilyon Woo: a history/biography about an extraordinary woman named Eunice Chapman. When in the 1810s her alcoholic husband joined the Shakers (an unusual religious community, who are depicted thoroughly & interestingly in this book) and took their children with him, Eunice waged a fiery campaign to get custody of the children even though there was no legal precedent for a woman having custody, and managed to convince the New York State legislature to pass a bill granting her a divorce (just for her: in NY, there was no divorce on other grounds than adultery until 1966(!), and no one but Eunice Chapman managed to get the legislature to make an exception). Eunice achieved this, in large part, by playing on New York society’s prejudice against the Shakers, campaigning against them with considerable vindictive zeal, for which reason it’s not always easy to root for her: but in other respects it’s very easy to be fascinated and delighted by her energetic contrarian personality, which Woo depicts well! And there’s a genuinely heartwarming ending, to go with a lot of chewy history.

  18. Marci says:

I’ve been sticking to re-reads/re-listens this summer. My favorite was revisiting a longtime favorite of mine, The Snake, The Crocodile, and The Dog by Elizabeth Peters. It was the first Amelia Peabody book I read (or really listened to, because I discovered the series by audiobooks read by Barbara Rosenblat). I fell in love with the characters and series. Peabody and Emerson are one of my favorite book couples ever.

  19. Diana says:

Dreaming of You, by Lisa Kleypas. Such a delight!

  20. Gale Miller says:

Dont see my comment…I LOVED Jpdi Taylor’s latest St Mary’s Chronicles, An Argumentation of Historians. Gail Carriger’s Retincence was both wonderful and bittersweet as it marked the end if her series. And Patrica Briggs Storm Cursed did not disappoint!

  21. Kelly M. says:

My favorite books this summer were Bookish Boyfriends: A Date with Darcy and the sequel Bookish Boyfriends: The Boy Next Story, both by Tiffany Schmidt. I would highly recommend them to anyone who loves YA romance.

  22. Leah Dudak says:

I am reading through Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series for the the first time ever. And while some things aren’t as modern as they could me, I am loving this series and the Bridgerton Family

  23. G. says:

My absolute favourites were Laini Taylor’s STRANGE THE DREAMER and MUSE OF NIGHTMARES, which is funny, because I’m not into insta-love usually, but it worked for me here. Plus, Laini Taylor has a way with words. She’s got the magic touch for sure.

Runners-up: Melina Marchetta’s THE PLACE AT DALHOUSIE (another author with the magic touch, especially when it comes to her characters and their interactions-slash-relationships) and Sabahattin Ali’s MADONNA IN A FUR COAT (a translated work, originally in Turkish; a beautiful, melancholy short novel, but it’s a love story and not a romance).

  24. Sarah says:

My favorite read from this summer is a tossup between Rock Bottom Girl (Lucy Score) and The Prenup (Lauren Layne). I also read the Knitting in the City (Penny Reid) series and the Bootleg Springs (Lucy Score/Claire Kingsley) series & loved both. This is like asking me to pick a favorite pet, I can’t do it.

  25. Marisa Gettas says:

I loved THE BRIDE TEST by Helen Hoang ❤️

  26. Cate says:

My favorite this summer would have to be Th e Bookshop on the Shore by Jenny Colgan. I love her books – they always take me to a far off place and make me wish I were in the story.

  27. Alex says:

“Blanca & Roja” by Anna-Marie McLemore — read chapter 1 and I was hooked. I highlighted so many turns of phrases and re-read multiple sections because they were just so beautiful.

  28. Abigail says:

I’ve been in a sad summer-reading-slump but I did manage to finish (and really enjoy) “Evvie Drake Starts Over” by Linda Holmes. It was completely sweet and delightful.

  36. Liviania says:

I loved the new Eloisa James, Say No to the Duke.

  37. Heather Greye says:

I wouldn’t call it my favorite but the one that captured my attention the most (read til 4am to finish, hello bad decisions book club) was Becoming Superman, J. Michael Straczynski. It’s an autobiography that needs a trigger warning for all the things, but the things he overcame to become a successful writer in multiple arenas awed me.

  38. Kate says:

My top romance reads this summer have been [i]Reservations for Two[i] by Jennifer Lohmann and [i]Rescued by Her Rival[i] by Amalie Berlin, and I’m currently reading [i]Evvie Drake Stars Over[i] and loving it so far.
