Fight or Flight by Samantha Young was the perfect beach read. And the cover was pretty great too.
My favorite read so far this year was Her Deadly Secrets by Laura Griffin. Romantic suspense is my favorite kind of book.
I recently finished The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins & loves it. I’m hoping it’s the start of a series about the town.
I read strictly romance usually but The Lost Girls of Paris was recommended to me. I drug my feet to pick it up but really ended up enjoying it so much!!!
I had the best fun listening to Eric Idle’s “Always look on the bright side of life : a sortabiography”, read by Eric himself. Wildly amusing, and such fun to hear all about the Pythons.
I’ve been working on my TBR pile this summer, and I can’t believe it took me this long to finally get around to reading the Troubleshooters series by Suzanne Brockmann.
Nalini Singh’s Wolf Rain was one of the best!
I read Roll of a Lifetime after the Fated Mates Podcast recommended it in their “We’re Big Mad” reproductive rights episode.* Then I burned through everything else in Melanie Greene’s backlist because I AM HERE FOR IT.
*honorable mention for the romantic depiction of the hero’s trip to a pharmacy to buy Plan-B.
I LOVED Beautiful Exiles by Meg Waite Clayton. This was definitely a 5-star book for me, and it made me want to visit Cuba immediately.
My favorite read this summer was Cipher by Larissa Ione; a book in her PNR Demonica series and my birthday present from my father. He passed away a week before my birthday but had preordered it for me. For several reasons Cipher will always be a favorite book.
Just finished “Protect the Prince” by Jennifer Estep. Still a week left, but so far my favorite read this summer. Great sequel to “Kill the Queen”
the book I enjoyed the most this summer–There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon.
I have really enjoyed ‘The legendary Inge’ by Kate Stradling this summer and a shorter one by the same author: ‘Soot and Slipper’. I have also finally gotten around to reading some Nalini Singh in the form of ‘Wild Embrace’, a selection of shorts. Now to pick up some more books in the world. ^_^
I really loved the Bride Test! And I’m always looking for new books to read on Rec It Wedneday! Can’t wait til it returns to the ‘gram!
It has been a difficult three years for me, starting with the death of my husband and proceeding through estrangement with my daughter on through guardianship of my grandson who then was diagnosed with the same chronic illness (bi-polar) that killed his uncle, my step-son and disabled his mother. In addition to work problems, etc. So, although there have been new books I have loved, what has got me through this year has been comfort reads. I have gone heavily this summer with Nora Roberts and Dick Francis. With Francis, I like Hot Money (family more difficult than mine), To the Hilt (ditto plus a second chance at love), and 10-lb Penalty (father and son dynamic). With Roberts, It is Chasing Fire (she is so damn competent), The Search (dogs!), and The Obsession (house porn).
I’ve read some really good books this summer. The Work of Art by Mimi Matthews, The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins, Brazen and The Beast by Sarah MacLean. Those are my 5-star reads.
I loved How to Find Love in a Bookshop. Really, any book that has a romance and bookstores (or bookstalls. Or bookvans) will get me, but this one was just so sweet. It made me really glad I bought it (for $5 in hardcover, go me) so I can reread it.
I loved re-reading The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare this summer. Honestly, this book has me cheesing the whole time I read it.
I’ve been loving Cecilia Lane’s Shifters of Bear’s Den series.
My favourite read this summer was The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai. I have a few other releases from this summer still waiting on Mount TBR though. This was a good summer for books.
Three-Way Split by Elia Winters. It was terrific!
I loved Red White & Royal Blue
Currently reading the second book in the rather new-ish “Raven, Fisher & Simpson” series by Ambrose Parry. Setting is Victorian Edinburgh and the main characters all work as gynecologists, which forces them to solve crimes as one would expect.
I also loved Jurrasic Park (I know, I’m 30 years behind…) and the Peter Grant / Rivers of London series.
I have just blown through the “Tracers” series by Laura Griffin! Some of them I liked way more than others — particular favorite was “Exposed” about a forensic photographapher!
Work for It by Talia Hibbert is the best book I’ve read all year!
I loved Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane.
Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston was hands down my favourite read. I still have a book hangover from it and I read it in June.
That’s a hard one. I really liked Evvie Drake Starts Over.
This summer, I’ve been binging on Tessa Dare, Alyssa Cole, Jackie Lau, and re-listening to the Stephanie Plum books. (I can gauge how busy I am at work by how my reading shifts from angsty to romcom. August has been challenging).
My favourite is a non-romance, though: H is for Hawk. It’s slow and meditative and reflective and I’m glad I picked it off the TBR pile.
I went on an enormous KJ Charles binge and loved every single one I read, but I think The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal was my favorite just for the unusual structure and the ghost stories!
The best book I read this summer is The Hound of Justice by Claire O’Dell. Amazing take on Holmes and Watson in an alternative USA that seems all too real.
I got really into Pippa Grant this summer, and Beauty and the Beefcake was so good!
I got really into Pippa Grant this summer, and Beauty and the Beefcake was so good!
The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary, with an honorable mention going to Linda Holmes’ Evvie Drake Starts Over.
One of my very favorite author duos is the husband and wife team of Ilona Andrews. I readily scarf down anything and everything they write. The Innkeeper Chronicles is the series that introduced me to them, and the newest, Sweep of the Blade, was my best read of the summer so far. (They have a new Hidden Legacy book coming out this week that I’m itching to get started on). The best part of an IA book isn’t the immersive worlds, each with their own exciting and new environments, and it isn’t the thrilling pacing that makes me inhale their stories. It’s always been the relationships between the characters in the stories. Family, whether traditional or found, is the centerpiece in all their stories. The relationships, support, and love the characters have for each other always grabs me and draws me into the lives of the people on the page. I can read, and reread, and reread again every book they’ve written. I alway know I’ll enjoy the ride.
@Vicki — I’m sorry you’ve had a rough few years. Nora Roberts is one of my go-to’s for comfort reading. My fave of her titles is Honest Illusions, but I also loved the house porn in The Obsession.
It’s hard to pick a favorite for this summer because I had an incredible run—Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo, Teach Me by Olivia Dade, A Prince on Paper by Alyssa Cole, and The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. I might give the edge to a more recent title, Savaged by Mia Sheridan.
I read the Murderbot Diaries series this month by Martha Wells. It is a very fun series and so full of warmth in a sci-fi setting. Each book is more novelette length though so it’s easy to burn through them.
The First Girl Child, by Amy Harmon! Subtle yet layered romance, awesome women and beautiful mythology.
I just loved The Rogue of Fifth Avenue by Joanna Shupe! Historical romance in the Guilded Age, witty dialogue, sexy scenes, memorable characters. Loved it.
I have read a ton of great books already this year, but my favorite so far has been “Becoming” by Michelle Obama. She is an incredible writer and storyteller, and her story is both fascinating and inspiring
