With the assumption that summer started on Memorial Day weekend (which is when school ended here), my favorite summer reads are: HEATED RIVALRY (my favorite book of the year, so far) by Rachel Reid, MAGGIE’S RUN by Kelly Hunter, ONE LAST CHANCE by Molly O’Keefe, and BLACK SHEEP BOUNTY HUNTER by Jackie Ashenden. I finished HEATED RIVALRY just after school ended and BKACK SHEEP BOUNTY HUNTER the day before school reopened—so there’s my summer in a nutshell.
Red, White & Royal Blue. It was one of the best, most beautiful and joyous love stories I’ve read so far – not just this summer. The characters were some of the most relatable I’ve ever come across, family and mental health were handled exceptionally well, the banter was first class, and I was wholly invested in the story. After finishing it, I had to take a break from reading and just sit with it. It was too good.
I’ve read so many great books this summer, but I think my favorite was The Huntress by Kate Quinn. A wonderful group of characters (especially Nina) and a very different (but so satisfying) kind of love story.
My top book, not only this summer, but probably for the last several years, was A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I also loved Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone (thanks Bitchery!) and the first two books of Jennifer Estep’s fantasy (with some romance) trilogy, Kill the Queen and Protect the Prince.
Definitely The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. It made me guffaw, it made me tear up, it made me read it again!
This summer I finally got to the Lunar Chronicles and enjoyed all of them!! This thread is great but it’s killing my TBR list! Lol
Everything by Lyndsay Faye! I read ALL of her books this summer right in a row; they were fantastic!
My recent summer favorite have been Unmarriageable by Soniah Kamal, a sweet re-imagining of Pride and Prejudice, and Queen Victoria’s Matchmaking – The Royal Marriages That Shaped Europe by Deborah Cadbury.
I loved The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite. The characters were well drawn and it’s so nice to read a different plot in a regency!
I think the summer reads that stick with me the most are Mary Robinette Kowal’s The Fated Sky and Helen Hoang’s The Bride Test!
Hands down, This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. It’s a romance but in no way traditional, the writing and world building are fantastic, and the story is so tightly written! I loved it!!
Teach Me, by Olivia Dade.
I’m going to jump on the Polaris Rising bandwagon. It sent me on a sci-fi-Romance kick for the month of July. I also really, really enjoyed the non-fiction book The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton. An important book that I plan to force on the rest of my family.
Two of my favorite reads this summer were books/series I saw recommended by commenters on this site: *Raze* by Roan Parrish (3rd in its series) and *Magic and the Shinigami Detective* by Honor Raconteur. So, thanks to anyone and everyone who mentioned these books (or prior books in Parrish’s series)!
Brazen and the Beast was my top read this summer, though there have been so many great books.
SPELLBOUND by Allie Therin has to be my favourite this summer. I did not expect to fall for the characters as much as I did and I really, really hope we’ll see Rory and Ace again.
Favourite so far is book three in the Sherlock series Hollow of Fear by Sherry Thomas. Love how each book in the series leads in to the next. Hollow of Fear is sooooo good.
I have a tie between two series, Ilona Andrew’s Innkeeper books and the Rivers of London graphic novels, they satisfy me in different ways. But for all of the Bitchery that enjoy the Rivers of London series I whole heartedly and with great enthusiasm recommend the grahic novels *strokes them*
Teach me by Olivia Dade. The book was like a warm hug. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it
Through a Dark Glass by Barb Hendee it’s the first book in the Dark Glass series. The rest the series is on my Want to Read list.
My favorite reads the last few months include a bunch of new to me authors:
Talia Hibbert – That Kind of Guy & Untouchable; Alisha Rai – The Right Swipe; CaseyMcQuiston – Red, White and Royal Blue and Adriana Herrera – American Dreamer made me so hungry – the food descriptions!
for SFR/Paranormal -I just finished the Broken Lands Trilogy (Pathfinder’s Way, etc) Ilona Andrews recommended them in a tweet and it’s great reading (I found Jack Campbell through her too). I’m anxiously awaiting Ilona Andrews new release – Sapphire Flames too.
Finally Nalini Singh is my keeper – Wolf Rain was awesome and I’ve recently relistened to the last four books in the Guild Hunters series awaiting her new release ArchAngel’s War
It’s been a good summer for me for books.
The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai!
The Queen’s Thief Collection by Megan Whalen Turner was a delightful find this summer- pretty sure it was a rec from this site! Always great to find five books at once.
Unsolicited Duke Pic by Nico Rosso was a hoot and the perfect hot short read I needed to get me out of a reading slump.
I really liked Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.
Death of Darkness by Dianne Duvall. Seth getting his HEA, and learning more about the origins of this paranormal world was worth weight.
The Ladies Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite and The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai are two of my most favorite this summer.
Oh wow, I feel like I spent my whole summer sitting on benches in playgrounds, reading good books while my kid played. (It’s not literally true, but it’s close.) It’s hard to pin a favorite, but I just last week realized that Alisha Rai had a new book out this summer, and basically ignored my family for two days while I immersed myself in “Right Swipe.”
It’s kinda funny that my favorite book this year has not been a novel… it’s a cookbook with stories, and it’s great! Old-School Comfort Food by Alex Guarnaschelli. It’s been a favorite read, and a source for some great recipes and tips. Wish I’d bought it years ago, when it first came out!
I had two favorite reads this summer, In A Dark Wood and The Parting Glass. Both are by Josh Lanyon and are wonderful. Also loved Jericho Candelario’s Gay Debut by R. Cooper.
More of a short story than a book; One Last Chance by Molly O’Keefe was amazing for both the story and the ability displayed. I’ve read 400 page books with less well developed characters.
I really enjoyed two mysteries this summer: Death in Kew Gardens by Jennifer Ashley and Betrayal in Time by Julie McElwain.
I read a book early this summer by a new author to me called, The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. I thoroughly enjoyed it as I knew little about autism. The book was sweet, funny & believable. I then read her second book, The Bride Test. This book also dealt with autism but this time it’s the hero with the problem. Both books are well written & highly recommended.
Not a romance but New York by Edward Rutherford. I know it was historical fiction but I learned so much about the founding of our country through present time.
Enjoyed is probably the wrong word for a book that often infuriated me but INVISIBLE WOMEN: DATA BIAS IN A WORLD DESIGN BY MEN by Caroline Criado-Perez was thought provoking and powerful and easily the best non-fiction I read this summer. On the fiction front, I really enjoyed THE BRIDE TEST by Helen Hoang and THE FLATSHARE by Beth O’Leary, both were great romances with lovely character arcs and pining.
I’ve been reading Talia Hibbert’s books after trying and liking Mating the Huntress. I loved the Ravenswood books but was super surprised to really enjoy Undone by the Ex-Con (not my usual catnip). It was so good!
I had picked up Thaw by Elyse Springer awhile back and finally read it. Liked it, but it felt too short? I’m going to check out some others by her.
On the non-romance front, enjoyed Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce. I’ve been reading her Tortall Books since I was 11 but never quite got into the Circle universe, so it was nice to have a new one to devour!
I *loved* Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. Read it now!
I loved Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. This was also a summer of discovering lots of great new authors!
I stumbled across Lucy Score/Claire Kingsley Bootleg Springs series, which made me lol. Now I have worked my way through most of Lucy Score, and I’m ready to start on Claire Kingsley. I enjoy books that make me laugh, especially in the summer!
We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix. I haven’t read horror in years, but this looked too good to pass up. I did the audio and the narrator was fantastic. : )
