The first Veronica Speedwell Book was amazing. I listened to it on audible and immediately purchased the next two.
I loved the audio version of Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes (read by Julia Whelan) so much that I listened to the whole book even after I bought a kindle copy.
I really, really, really loved the audiobook of Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey, narrated by Xe Sands. I still can’t stop thinking about the plot and the twist!!!
Also idk if Sapphire Flames by Ilona Andrews counts but this book was well worth the wait.
I had kind of a bummer summer, I was forced off the road by a car while riding my bike and broke my left wrist. It needed surgery and I spent 8 weeks in a cast. I read The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison several times this summer and each time was comforted the by the quiet strength in the book.
I have struggled terribly this year with reading, so many distractions and a few lacklustre novels back to back have really affected my reading (I also discovered Fire Emblem for the first time and that pretty much eclipse all other activities for me for a bit! 🙂
BUT I did read and LOVED Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston! Totally lived up to the hype, super cute but still addressed some of the difficulties of being publicly outed when famous. Also, as a bonus, I learnt a whole buttload about American Politics.
I’ve been trying to knock down my TBR pile and finally got around to reading Fighting Dirty by Lori Foster. OMG, loved Armie and Rissy so much, I was kicking myself for not reading it earlier!!! Thank you for the chance to win some goodies!
Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez
Don’t You Forget About Me – Mhairi McFarlane
Get a Life, Chloe Brown – Talia Hibbert
The City of Brass by SA Chakraboty
I reread and finished Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty Norville series this summer and really enjoyed the books. It was amazing what I had forgotten (as well as the little things I remembered!) and I enjoyed the series all over again.
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms trilogy by NK Jemisin, and everything I read by KJ Charles~
My favorite reads this summer were The Bookish Life of Nina Hill and the Veronica Speedwell series.
I have been listening to back issues of your podcast and getting lots of awesome recommendations. Based on this in the last week I have read When it’s Real by Erin Watt and Misfits and Strays by Garret Leigh’s. Completely different types of romance but I loved both authors. Also, by listening to old podcasts most books are available at my library.
Red, White, and Royal Blue made me so deeply happy. I laughed out loud multiple times, and wiped away tears of sadness and happiness. Then I immediately wanted to read it again! The Flatshare was my other favorite – brilliant, sensitive, sweet, funny. Tiffy, Leon, and their world came alive for me! I will read anything by either of these authors.
I think my favorite book of the summer has been The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman. I laughed so hard in certain places of the book-just loved it.
I wish we could reply to other people’s comments-@Bonnie was the #1 comment-I LOVE Erica James!! The first time I went to London-maybe 15 years ago? I picked up one of her books in a fun little bookshop-started reading it on the train to Yorkshire, and I probably missed a lot of scenery, because I was entranced by the book. It was a very emotional read, I can’t remember the title right now-but she is a great author. She wasn’t always published in the US so I would order her books from amazon.co.uk.
The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
I really enjoyed ‘Protecting the Prince’ by Jennifer Estep, ‘Sweep of the Blade’ by Ilona Andrews, and ‘Wolf Rain’ by Nalini Singh.
I absolutely love Polaris Rising. I borrowed the kindle version from my library, finished it, returned it so that someone else could read and enjoy and immediately bought both the kindle and physical books for myself. Can’t wait for the next one in the series!
I love Pride, Prejudice and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev. The food! I loved how she treated both of their journeys especially the hero. He’s black, british, biracial. The book really took a lovely turn when she forced the main characters to deal with this.
“Forever Wolf” by Maria Vale. I didn’t love it the way I loved the first two books in the series. But the ending stayed with me and made me question why I didn’t love it — namely, what were my expectations and what makes an HEA. Unexpectedly thought-provoking.
I was recently introduced to the world of romance, and SBTB is one of the first places I discovered! Your wit and wisdom has helped me navigate this new community and I’m hooked.
My favorite read this summer was Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare.
I spent the last few months reading through all the Clorinda books (The Comfortable Courtesan et al). I am also starting the M.C.A. Hogarth Mindhealer books (meet the Eldritch, along with the Pelted races) and find them interesting as well.
I own a large book collective which will be delighted to welcome new members!

Four of us in US, Indonesia, Australia and Malaysia read “This is How You Lose the Time War” by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, and we LOVED it!
I devoured Sunburn by Laura Lippman over a weekend. She is my “how did I not know about this author?!” discovery of the summer, and can’t wait to dive into her books this fall.
I devoured Sunburn by Laura Lippman over a weekend. Delicious, delicious noir set in a small town during summer. She is my “how did I not know about this author?!” discovery of the summer, and can’t wait to dive into her books this fall.
Sunburn by Laura Lippman—delicious, delicious noir about a woman with a past hiding out in a small town that I devoured in a weekend. She is my summer author discovery and I can’t wait to dive into her books this fall.
I tried sci-fi /space opera for the first time with Polaris Rising and it was AWESOME!
Hallie Rubenhold’s The Five was great!
I had 3 books to read this summer:
1. A Question For the Ages/ Angeline Fortin
2. The Rogue to Ruin/ Vivienne Lorret
3. A Kiss From a Rogue/ Elisa Braden
I had to wait for all the summer company to leave before I could
start reading..
Most Definitely Sapphire Flames By Ilona Andrews
I’ve been really loving the Turner Series by Cat Sebastian. I just reread them all in the space of a week! Well written queer historical romance, with characters you really care about. Love it. I’m starting on her other series now! ❤️
This summer I really enjoyed Lies Sleeping, by Ban Aaronovitch, the latest of the London Rivers series, and The Governess Game by Tessa Dare.
My favorite book this year is a release from last year. All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood
For sheer enjoyment, I choose the Wax and Wayne series (Mistborn set #2) by Brandon Sanderson, as read by Michael Kramer (who is, incidentally, married to another excellent narrator, Kate Reading). I have thought a lot about the books I read this summer, and this series was one I both read and listened to more than once, but it was Kramer’s narration made the series for me.
Other books of note: Ellie and the Harpmaker [of Exmoor!] and The Flatshare, both of which addressed extrication from psychologically abusive relationships. Both done well.
Megan Bryce’s Some Like It Hopeless was unexpectedly good.
I loved “These Witches Don’t Burn” by Isabel Sterling. It has magic, a teen f/f romance and a fun mystery. It was a delightful combination.
Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes was just a lovely summer read.
I finally was able to read both Dumplin’ and Puddin’ by Julie Murphy and I am so, so in love with her stories.
I finally got around to reading The Gown by Jennifer Robson and it was everything I could have hoped for!
