Just finished “Summer At The Lake” by Erica James, which a friend passed on to me. Not my usual reading material – I like more hot & spicy & maybe some urban fantasy … but it really was an awesome “beach” read and kept me hooked until the very end. Great summer reading!

  2. Kait says:

    My favorite so far this

  3. Jiobal says:

I’ve tried several new to me authors this summer, most per recommendations from the Bitchery and almost everything was a win. One of my favourites was “The Beekeeper’s Apprentice” by Laurie R. King. Am now slowly working my way through the series and enjoying both the take on the Holmes & Russel team as well as the 1920s atmosphere.

  4. Kait says:

My favorite so far this summer has been It Ain’t Me, Babe by Tillie Cole. I bought it because someone recommended it to me on Goodreads and then I bought and read the next six books in three days.

  5. dine says:

my favourite read this summer was Red, White & Royal Blue – I love those themes and it was just great fluff reading.

  6. Mara says:

My favorite read so far this summer has been the graphic novel Extraordinary by Cassie Anderson. It’s about a princess who was blessed at birth with the gift of being “ordinary.” All of her sisters have the more traditional blessings like beauty, grace, etc. and our heroine feels down about it until she decides to go on a quest and take her destiny into her own hands. The art is so cute, the colors are gorgeous, and there’s a dragon named Frederick who does castle renovations. What’s not to love??

  7. Crystal F. says:

My favorites for the summer are probably tied between ‘Do You Want To Start A Scandal’ by Tessa Dare, and ‘It Happened One Autumn’, by Lisa Kleypas.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about them either way going in, but I enjoyed both books.

  8. Asfaroth says:

I have been reading and absolutely loving the Hawkeye comics by Matt Fraction. I haven’t read any comics for years but this one reads like the best of fanfiction and I mean that as a very big compliment since I love fanfiction! Insecure Hawkeye as a regular guy with a life outside of the Avengers and problems al of his own: what’s not to love? And the art and colouring is also sublime. I highly recommend these comics is what I’m saying!

  9. Francesca says:

My favourite read of the summer was Milady by Laura L. Sullivan. I love The Three Musketeers, although I recognize its problematic content these days, and schemey villainesses have always been one of my especial brands of crack. This retelling gave me a kick-ass, take-no-prisoners main character.

  10. Cheryl McInnis says:

I’ve read 2 books that really stood out for me this summer. “Polaris Rising” by Jessie Milhalik and “Her Deadly Secrets” by Laura Griffin. Loved, loved, loved both of them!

  11. MO says:

Some of my favorite reads this summer are Red, White and Royal Blue, A Prince on Paper and When a Scot Ties the Knot. I got quite a bit of reading done because of summer break from school and it was wonderful!

  12. KayKay says:

My favorite two so far this summer (there are still a few more days to read) have been The Travelers by Regina Porter and The Rook by Daniel O’Malley (thanks for the rec!).

  13. Melissa says:

I’ve been on a Tessa Dare kick – trying to catch up on her work and have loved all of them. I’ve most recently read the Castles series which was fantastic.

  14. Kaitlin says:

My favorite read this summer was “Evie Drake is Starting Over,” but I am currently reading the Psy-Changling series for the first time from the beginning, and I’m really enjoying those, too.

  15. Ellie says:

I love Wanderers by Chuck Wendig. It was 1,000 + pages of what-is-happening and the ending was very satisfying to me – a risk with horror-type fiction. I wish I could read it again for the first time. It was like The Stand by Stephen King – but in the 2000s. As I get older I find I read less romance and more fiction and mystery, and this book fit the bill.

  16. Kelsey C. says:

My favorite books so far this summer have been the The Bride Test and Kingdom of Exiles. Also doing a re-listen of Ilona Andrews works which always gives me warm gooey happy feelings.

  17. Jill Q. says:

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren was my unexpected favorite of the summer. I am unabashedly happy rom coms are experiencing a renaissance.

  18. Escapeologist says:

Jackie Lau – Not Another Family Wedding and He’s Not My Boyfriend. Thanks for the recs!

  19. Viktória says:

This summer, with the help of Ripped Bodice Summer Bingo and the Bitchery, I’ve tried to read more of the books sitting on my tbr for years and hell, am I glad I did that!

I’ve read a great many wonderful books, these stood out the most:
The Place on Dalhousie by Melina Marchetta – I just love her writing and in this book, she outdid herself with the portrayal of a shattered family coming together. It was touching and I was crying my heart out with joy in the end. I was surprised by loving Martha best of all – she was amazing.
Earth Bound by Emma Barry and Genevieve Turner – I gobbled up the whole Fly me to the Moon series and loved the journey. I owe a great big thank you to the Bitchery for helping me discover this gem.

Honorary mention to the second and third book in Libba Bray’s The Diviners quartet that is my favourite series of the last five years, Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas, Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren and Silver Lining by Maggie Osborne.

  20. Brittany says:

Mine would definitely be Applied Electromagnetism by Susannah Nix!

  21. Rhiannon Kaye says:

“Evvie Drake starts over” was a vacation read favorite last month. In the past week finished and loved “Brazen and the Beast” and “The Wallflower Wager” (I really enjoy when I go to request holds at the library and I realize I’m #1 or 2 on a new release).

I listened to Dread Nation by Justina Ireland on audiobook and am eagerly awaiting the second book next year.

  22. Amy says:

Mr Hot Shot CEO Jackie Lau

  23. Lynda says:

Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse. It was a great take on UF, and the romance building through the series is wonderful.

  24. SusanK says:

The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai and Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean were my favorite reads this summer.

  25. marmarta says:

Not a romantic book, but one that I found extremely valuable nonetheless: “The Righteous Mind” by Jonathan Haidt. It annoyed me and frustrated me and made me discuss it with everyone around, and also caused many unpleasant moments of rethinking my assumptions about the world.
And on the more romantic side, the Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin made me spend two entire days of holidays reading in a hammock.

  26. Naomi says:

Oooh, there’ve been several, but The Right Swipe and A Little Light Mischief were both great.

  27. JoanneBB says:

Teach Me by Olivia Dade. It’s adorable.

  28. REmily says:

I loved Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik – wonderful recommendation by this site!

  29. JGonz says:

My fave reads were Pucked by Helena Hunting and the Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare.

  30. Chelsea Rohr says:

One of my favorite reads this summer was Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean. Her romances just delight me and make me giggle, gasp and wonder how it’s all going to work out. I’m hoping to finish Scot in the Dark this week!

  31. Chels N says:

Favorite of the summer that will most likely be favorite of the year – RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE. It had the perfect balance of sweet and serious without ever letting it become pure fluff (I’ve realized I lose interest almost immediately) or EDGY-EDGY-GRIMDARK THIS IS SRS BUSINESS GUYZ.

Favorite discovery of the year – Nicola Cornick. FINALLY read THE PHANTOM TREE and WOMAN IN THE LAKE and they were exactly what I was looking for at the time – high on the mystery and complicated characters, high on the “there are no easy answers to the problems these characters are facing”, and lower page time on the romance, which is how I realize I like my historical romance/mysteries to be – that’s the magic sauce that makes them click for me

Favorite “I have extremely complicated feelings about this book but I am going to keep reading the series because I am HOOKED”: Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series. I had some…ISSUES *coughs* with Lucas and I really, really hate alpha characters, but Aarya hyped it up so much that I had to pick up at least Book 1, and damn it, I am hooked! Despite how much I really did not like Lucas, the world and other characters were more than enough to keep me going. Already have VISIONS OF HEAT out from the library!

  32. I really enjoyed THE CRUEL PRINCE by Holly Black.

  33. Becca says:

I read the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovich and Lexie Dunne’s Superheroes Anonymous series.

  34. Caitlin says:

My favorite this summer was Natalie Fan’s book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim! I loved the mix of magical realism and romance and of course all of the food!

  35. LeighAnna says:

I loved, loved, loved Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews. The Innkeeper chronicles keep getting better and better.

  36. Brandie says:

This summer, I read the Kingmaker Chronicles trilogy by Amanda Bouchet and really loved it! (And I was glad I discovered the series after all 3 books were published, because I was able to devour them all in 2 days.)

  37. Christina says:

My favorite this summer was rereading the first two Tessa Dare Girl Meets Duke series books before the new release came out, which I also loved.

  38. rachel says:

Really liked Fix Her Up by Tessa Baily. Super fun and sexy!

  39. Carol S. says:

The Princess and the Fangirl, by Ashley Poston.

  40. Kari says:

My favorite read this summer was Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan. I loved the Crazy Rich Asians series and kept putting this one off so it wouldn’t be over.
