  • A Princess in Theory

A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole

A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is the first book in her Reluctant Royals series and this seems to be a series that just keeps getting better with its books. Many readers loved how Alyssa writes consent, agency, and all sorts of other awesome and empowering things. However, some warn that this book takes several chapters to get into the swing of things.

From acclaimed author Alyssa Cole comes the tale of a city Cinderella and her Prince Charming in disguise . . .

Between grad school and multiple jobs, Naledi Smith doesn’t have time for fairy tales…or patience for the constant e-mails claiming she’s betrothed to an African prince. Sure. Right. Delete! As a former foster kid, she’s learned that the only things she can depend on are herself and the scientific method, and a silly e-mail won’t convince her otherwise.

Prince Thabiso is the sole heir to the throne of Thesolo, shouldering the hopes of his parents and his people. At the top of their list? His marriage. Ever dutiful, he tracks down his missing betrothed. When Naledi mistakes the prince for a pauper, Thabiso can’t resist the chance to experience life—and love—without the burden of his crown.

The chemistry between them is instant and irresistible, and flirty friendship quickly evolves into passionate nights. But when the truth is revealed, can a princess in theory become a princess ever after?

  • Hidden

    Hidden by Rebecca Zanetti

Hidden by Rebecca Zanetti is 99c! This is the first book in her Deep Ops romantic suspense series and I’m very curious about it. It has a 4.1 star rating on Goodreads, which is impressive. However, if you’ve tried Zanetti’s books in the past and have mixed feelings, readers definitely suggest trying the sample first.

Hide. That’s all Pippa can do to escape the terror chasing her. But now that she’s off the grid in a safe house, she finds plenty of interesting things to watch through the window. Like her new neighbor, with his startling green eyes, killer smile, and sexy bad-boy tattoo . . .

Run. Malcolm West is fleeing the hell he unleashed in his last assignment as an undercover cop. A backwoods bungalow sounds like the perfect place to start over. Until he discovers he’s been set up . . .

Fight. Someone’s gone to a lot of trouble to bring them together. No matter how much he resents that, and his own driving needs, Malcolm will have to dig deep and let loose the banished killer inside himself, or Pippa’s fears could come true faster than the flip of a bolt in a lock . . .

  • Playing for Keeps

Playing for Keeps by Jill Shalvis

Playing for Keeps by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This contemporary romance released earlier this year and is the seventh book in her Heartbreaker Bay series. Readers recommend this one for a low-angst, but still emotionally fluent read. And it has a cute dog. However, others expressed annoyance at the heroine’s continuing self-sabotaging behavior.

If you’re planning on falling in love…

When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.

    you’d better be sure…

Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.

… someone is there to catch you.

Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk.

KDD today: “Every Time We Fall In Love” (contemporary) by Bella Andre is $1.99, “Unbroken Cowboy” (contemporary, cowboy) by Maisey Yates is $1.99, and “Shadowheart” by Laura Kinsale (historical, medieval) is $1.99.

  2. jcp says:

I also enjoyed another KDD More than Words Can Say by Karen Wittemeyer which is $1.99 today. It’s a marriage of convenience plot set in a small Texas town in 1896. (Christian fiction) It was featured on AAR blog for upcoming books in June.

  3. Maureen says:

Why do I love hockey romance so much?? I haven’t been a fan of a team, although I did have a friend play in high school and enjoyed seeing him skate. That was before they even wore helmets 🙂 Yes-the 1970’s were a free for all!

Yet I see the word hockey and I am IN for the book.

  4. WS says:

Oddly, I frequently find myself in the same boat as Maureen.

I, too, have never followed a team.

  5. MaryK says:

    +1 😀

Also, rugby books. It kind of snuck up on me. I started reading Rosalind James’ NZ rugby series and got to a book that had less actual rugby and was like “wait, isn’t there going to be a game?” LOL I live in Louisiana and all I can tell you about LSU and The Saints is that they’re here and they’re popular.

I think it’s partly due to the manly team of brotherly men dynamic. Kind of like military romance but with less life and death stuff.

  6. Karen says:

MaryK – doesn’t Rosalind James write well! Her stories gave me a better appreciation of Rugby Union but I’m still a cricket fan. And hockey player stories are a bit more my cup of tea than American/Canadian football player stories. Still waiting for sports romances based around curling or cricket!! Anyone have suggestions?

  7. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I find it’s easier to enjoy sports-related romance when I know very little about the sport in question: hockey, basketball, and rugby romances are good because I know next-to-nothing about those sports. I start getting a little picky about football because I do know something about the game (like @MaryK, I live in Louisiana and follow the Saints; I have two kids at LSU, so you know I follow the Tigers too). I’m REALLY picky about baseball romances because I love baseball, follow it, and know the game very well—nothing turns me off faster in a baseball romance than incorrect terminology or obvious misunderstanding of the way the game is played on the part of the author. If there are cricket romances (I assume there are—the reach of romance is vast), I’d probably enjoy them because I know absolutely nothing about the game!

@MaryK: are you in the New Orleans area? Are you preparing for the storm? I live on the Northshore and I’m watching the weather and biting our nails!

  8. MaryK says:

@DiscoDollyDeb – I’m in the Baton Rouge area. We don’t usually get the full force of storms, but lately every time there’s a heavy rain it floods. So, yeah, the anxiety is starting to build.
