Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.RWA kicks off next week in New York! If you’re going, Sarah, Aarya, and I will be there. For Aarya and I, it’s our first RWA, so we will be the ones looking a little lost. Don’t be afraid to say hello! I always like meeting people from the site. You all are awesome!

Sarah was a guest on Book Riot’s romance podcast, When in Romance with Jess and Trisha. I know and love all three of these women. Don’t miss this one!

Speaking of podcasts, I’m a guest on this week’s Smart Women Read Romance and we’re discussing a book I really enjoyed: Polaris Rising. Give it a listen and go show the podcast some love!

If you’re attending RWA or are local to NYC, Sarah is hosting a game night at The Strand bookstore with a fabulous roster of romance authors. There is an admission price, but you get that back in a gift card.

A lot of casting selections for Shonda Rhimes’ adaptation of The Bridgertons has been announced. There’s a huge Twitter thread of them. Take a look:

Have you seen the announcement for the next 007? I am so excited! It’s a better casting decision than I had hoped for.

If you need more book recommendations, Tor.com has listed their best books of 2019 so far! Many of these books are already on my TBR pile. Looks like I’ll have to bump them up.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

I enjoyed this article from MessyNessyChic which started out with Victorian daguerreotypes of women breastfeeding and then a more generalized look at the evolution of bottle-feeding and the meaning of motherhood:

I visited The Strand for the first and only time a few years ago. I’d wanted to go for years and I’d planned it to be one of the highlights of my trip. I couldn’t find any romance novels (or any sci-fi or fantasy written by women) and the associate I asked for assistance was so unspeakably rude about “those kinds of books” that I left without buying anything. I am DELIGHTED they’re hosting an RWA event and I’m putting them back on my list of things to do the next time I’m in the city. Thanks for sharing this!

@NomadiCat: Tip for Strand books! Their romance is often interspersed in other sections like “fiction” or “sci-fi/fantasy.” Downstairs are carts of mass markets and a small romance section.

@NomadiCat – Strand used to have (still does?) a half-price mass market paperback table in the basement, and that was the only place in the store that you could reliably find romance novels. Even when they first started doing romance events, they would just have the books available at the event, and then I’d see the leftovers in the discount bin a week or so later. Apparently they now have a dedicated section for romance (as of early June this year?), but I don’t work in the area anymore so I haven’t been able to visit and check it out. I imagine that now they carry some of the popular trade paperback titles, at the very least.

I do have a ticket for the Strand event and I’m looking forward to it! I’m excited for so many romance events in NYC next week – on Tuesday Sarah MacLean and Lenora Bell will be at the 86th st Barnes & Noble, there’s the Strand Game Night on Thursday, and I got tickets for the afternoon KissCon on Friday! Strand is also hosting a Rom-Con event on Friday night (not sure if I’m going to that), and then I’ll be at the big RWA Literacy benefit signing on Saturday – whew!!

I will say Shondaland has absolutely nailed the Bridgertons themselves. But it sounds like they’re making Portia Featherington a lot nastier than she is in the books (where she’s more ambitious but ditzy) I hope they’re not amping up the drama at the cost of the humor; but otherwise I am so stoked for this!

Just saw this on Book Riot. We’re all familiar with Cockygate and Copy-Paste-Cris, but there’s another lawsuit roiling Romancelandia right now that I hadn’t heard of, involving the Omegaverse. I thought the author of the article did a good job breaking it down:
