  • Slap Shot

    Slap Shot by Kelly Jamieson

Slap Shot by Kelly Jamieson is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is part of the Aces Hockey series. The book is told from the hero’s POV, which isn’t my favorite. But readers loved the confident heroine: a psychologist who owns a business and helps design sex toys.

My name’s Max Hall, and I need to f***. As a pro hockey player who’s been away from the game for over a year, my libido has picked one hell of an an inconvenient time to come roaring back to life.

After my wife died from a rare form of cancer, sex was the last thing on my mind. Same with hockey, the other love of my life. Now, after fifteen months of eating too much, drinking too much, and generally just feeling sorry for myself, I’m facing a steep uphill battle to get my ass in shape and play my way back onto the Chicago Aces.

So I’m not looking for a relationship. Just sex. Yeah, I know how that makes me sound. But the truth is, I’ll never love another woman the way I loved my wife. When I meet a sexy bridesmaid at my teammate’s wedding, I decide to scratch that itch. A fling with Kendra Armstrong in her posh hotel room could be just what the trainer ordered.

Not only is Kendra smokin’ hot, she’s dynamite in bed—one of the perks of being a sex toy designer. Since she lives in New York anyway, we agree to keep things casual, no strings attached. The arrangement is perfect . . . until one of us falls in love. And it’s not me.

  • The Highland Duke

The Highland Duke by Amy Jarecki

The Highland Duke by Amy Jarecki is 99c! This is the first book in the Lords of the Highlands series, and features some forced proximity and the heroine who heals the hero. Readers loved the blend of action and romance, though some found the plot a little unbelievable. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

She’ll put her life on the line for him . . .

When Akira Ayres finds the brawny Scot with a musket ball in his thigh, the healer has no qualms about doing whatever it takes to save his life. Even if it means fleeing with him across the Highlands to tend to his wounds while English redcoats are closing in. Though Akira is as fierce and brave as any of her clansmen, even she’s intimidated by the fearsome, brutally handsome Highlander who refuses to reveal his name.

Yet she can never learn his true identity.

Geordie knows if Akira ever discovers he’s the Duke of Gordon, both her life and his will be forfeit in a heartbeat. The only way to keep the lass safe is to ensure she’s by his side day and night. But the longer he’s with her, the harder it becomes to think of letting her go. Despite all their differences, despite the danger-he will face death itself to make her his . . .

  • Made for Us

Made for Us by Samantha Chase

Made for Us by Samantha Chase is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance with a homebuilding hero and an interior designer heroine. The description also alludes to a stranded plotline on account of an incoming hurricane. Readers really loved the hero and his brothers, but found the chemistry in the romance lacking. Several more of Chase’s books are also on sale!

    Can’t make time for love?

The Shaughnessy brothers have spent the years since their mother’s untimely death taking care of each other and trying to make their father proud. Oldest son Aidan is hard-working, handsome, successful-and still single. Sure, he’d like to have his own family someday, but who has the time?

She’ll show him how to find it

Zoe Dalton, a stunning designer Aidan meets on one of his construction jobs, has the beauty and heart to make Aidan realize how much he could be missing. But it’s not easy to break down walls you’ve spent years building up. Now there’s a major storm bearing down on the North Carolina coast, and it could be catalyst enough to force Aidan and Zoe into some major decisions of the heart.

  • Even Vampires Get the Blues

Even Vampires Get the Blues by Sandra Hill

Even Vampires Get the Blues by Sandra Hill is 99c! This series features Viking vampire angels and the heroine is a Navy SEAL. Fair warning that Hill’s writing might not be for everyone. It’s a lot of goofy humor. I wasn’t a fan, but this book still has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads. Any Hill fans out there?

New York Times bestselling author Sandra Hill delivers a sizzling new entry in her Deadly Angels series, as a Viking vangel’s otherworldly mission teams him with a Navy SEAL who’s more than his match— she’s his predestined mate . . .

The fact that vampire angel Harek Sigurdsson was a Norseman in his mortal life doesn’t make thawing out after exile in Siberia any easier. But things heat up when his search for evil Lucipires connects him with Camille Dumaine, a human who thrums with sensual energy that can mean only one thing: she’s the mate Harek’s been seeking for centuries . . .

The SEALs call her “Camo” for her ability to blend into a crowd—yet Harek’s intense blue gaze singles Camille out like a white-hot spotlight. The security wiz was hired to help bring down a ruthless band of international kidnappers, but Camille senses an unspoken agenda—besides Harek’s bold declaration that she’s his “destiny.” Just Camille’s luck that the sexiest man she’s ever met may also be . . . a vampire!

Huh. I was all set to rant about the heroine’s name in The Highland Duke, but Wikipedia tells me that Akira is not only a Japanese name but “an anglicized female version of the Scottish male name Acair, meaning ‘anchor.'” Dammit, I could have used a good rant!

  2. JJB says:

@Nerdalisque, thank you for sharing that b/c I was seriously giving that name a side eye!

  3. Darlynne says:

Apparently I can deal with Viking vampire angels, but my mind grinds to a halt at female Navy SEAL. I’ll believe anything, the more fantastical the better, but you have to convince me of the day-to-day stuff, too. Women are plenty capable; AFAIK, the Navy isn’t. Does this story take place on another planet or alternate, not-today-Earth, maybe?

  4. Gwen says:

I’m disappointed. I read the heroine of The Highland Duke steals the hero. Nope, just a misread and another healing heroine.
