This HaBO is from Smol Nerd (love the name!), who is hoping to find this historical western romance:
I’m currently looking for a book I read a few years back (possibly two-three). I can’t remember if it was on my Kindle or at the library.
I’m pretty sure the book was a western historical romance although I’m not sure.
The main female character was pretending to be an old woman and a medium. She speaks with a woman about her missing son (pretty sure a connected book says he’s alive). The woman’s other son gets mad and goes to confront the woman about giving false hope and whatever. She says she wants to give closure and help people.
I think she ends up staying with the woman and/or man.
There’s a picnic and they have sex, and the man is shocked when he finds out she was a virgin.
That’s basically all I can come up with sadly. I’ll be really grateful if someone can help me out.
There’s a Courtney Milan with a fake fortune teller/medium, but I don’t think this is it. Maybe I’m wrong.
I was gonna say, the courtney milan one is awesome!
Not the HABO, but Louisa Locke has a series with a similar premise, if that’s your jam.
I have no names but this sounds like fun. Sort of a sexy Sylvia Browne!
The Milan book is Proof by Seduction, but it’s definitely not a western! The rest of the plot is very similar though.
Jo Goodman has a historical romance that features a psychic, With All My Heart, that takes place in San Francisco. It doesn’t quite match the description though.
I want to say it is A Good Rogue is hard find by Kelly Bowen, but that is definitely not the case since that is a regency. (It is an awesome book though!)
Joanna Shupe’s Baron has a fake (Spiritualist-ish) medium heroine. It’s not a Western but a US (NYC) historical.
Is it Of Grave Concern by Max McCoy? I know it’s shelved as a mystery here but it could fit the bill.
This sounds like an Amanda Quick I’ve read, but I’m not sure which one. I’ve also read Baron by Joanna Shupe. The heroine doesn’t pretend to be an old lady in that one, but some of the other details fit.
I’m reading a book right now where the heroine pretends to be a medium, in the course of trying to solve a mystery, “The Earl’s Irresistable Challenge” by Lara Temple. The mystery has to do with the hero’s father, not brother, but the hero does get mad at her. Also, it takes place in England and it’s a 2018 release, so I don’t think it’s the right fake medium.
Amanda Quick heroes are always getting shocked by virginity so that feels like a solid lead
Most shocked Amanda Quick heroes were in Victorian London. I was inclined to think of AQ, but did she write any westerns?
Also, although AQ was fond of the Psychic genre, they tended to be Has an Extra Sense/An Unusually Developed Sense, rather than “he’s in a place near water. You will meet a tall, dark stranger.”
