Hide Your Wallet

Book Beat: Vampire Lawyers, Fake Relationships, & More

Welcome to Book Beat! Think of Book Beat as Hide Your Wallet, Part Two!

In Hide Your Wallet, we talk about books coming out in a particular month that we really want to read. But there’s more to good books than just new releases!

Book Beat aims to highlight other books that we may hear about through friends, social media, or other sources. We could see a gorgeous ad! Or find a new-to-us author on a list of underrated romances! Think of Book Beat as Teen Beat or Tiger Beat, but for books. And no staples to open to get the fold-out poster.

  • Bloodsucking Lawyer

    Bloodsucking Lawyer by Nadia Diament

    Author: Nadia Diament
Released: June 18, 2019 by Limitless Publishing, LLC
    Genre: ,
    Series: Tucson Underworld #1

Emma left her career in corporate law to pursue her passion for criminal defense, but she can’t seem to catch a break. So when she lands an interview at a small law firm, she’s more than thrilled. But she has no idea what she’s in for.

Turns out it’s not just any law firm, and Henry—her new boss—isn’t exactly, well…human.

Apparently he drinks blood instead of coffee, and his client list consists of creatures that go bump in the night. But, the way Emma sees it, if she can get through law school, she can handle a few pothead werewolves and shoplifting witches. So she stays.

There’s just one thing she didn’t count on, and that’s catching feelings for her new vampire boss. Henry and his fangs become a temptation too hard to ignore, and no matter how much she tries, she still falls for him.

Problem is, everyone knows office romances have the tendency to crash and burn. But when your boss is a bloodsucking lawyer, odds are it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

The title might be a little on the nose (joking, romance lawyers!) but it sounds like a really interesting concept.

  2. Deianira says:

Ooh. I work for a non-profit which, amng other things, provides affordable rental housing in our nsanly expensive corner of the state, a novel featuring a housing activist is right up my alley! Definitely going on my list.

  3. Big K says:

Is there a way to give the Hide Your Wallet posts a tab on the website? I refer back to them over the month and have trouble getting back to them quickly. They are a great feature! Thank you!

  4. Amanda says:

@Big K: When I put these together, I usually tag them all with Hide Your Wallet.

  5. Kareni says:

@Amanda ~ how does one find the tag cloud?

I have the same issue with the Whatcha Reading? columns; I’d be delighted if there was a link on the ‘Looking for more from SBTB?’ page.

  6. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

Legit laughed out loud when I saw the title Bloodsucking Lawyer.

  7. Amanda says:

@Kareni: At the bottom of every post on the site, beneath the “Share a Bitch” social media links are the “tagged phrases.” Click on one of those!

I also always tag Whatcha Reading with “whatcha reading.” So scroll to the bottom of one of those post and click that tag.

  8. SB Sarah says:

I’m also going to be doing some restructuring of the menu at the top, adding Hide Your Wallet and some other items, so thank you for the suggestion! If you have other features you’re constantly looking for or would like help finding more easily, please feel free to email me!

  9. Kareni says:

@Amanda — I am aware of the tagged phrases and have used those; however, unless I already have a Whatcha Reading post on my screen, I have no easy way to find the tag. I’ve resorted to the Search function and searching ‘Whatcha’ but would definitely welcome a more direct approach.

@SB Sarah — I look forward to seeing what changes you might make.
