BigStock reached out to us about featuring their portfolio in our entries, and we had so much fun exploring, we wanted to share some entertaining collections of images. There are some seriously talented photographers at work in stock imagery, too.
There’s also a lot of gold to be mined when it comes to stock photos. Every month, we’d love to share with you some great, beautiful, or downright silly things we’ve come across on BigStock.
This month’s theme: Gorgeous coats
…
In the States, it’s summer. I hate it. So this post is for all the lucky people in the Southern Hemisphere who are experiencing cooler temps. I swear, when I’m filthy, stinkin’ rich, I’m going to have two homes in different hemispheres. I’ll switch between them to stay in cooler weather. That is my dream!
First, let’s all assume the coat is faux fur. Second, I bet you that this woman has at least four husbands who have all died under mysterious circumstances. I’ve concocted a lovely revenge fantasy in my head, where she grew up in awful conditions. Once older, she seduces the men or their relations who are responsible and kills them off.

This is the photo that inspired the theme. I saw it a few weeks ago and it was a “I MUST PAINT YOU” situation. His posture is so confident and regal. It’s giving me heavy Kate & Leopold vibes, where he’s a historic gentleman who has been transported to the future. And those brows! I’m pretty sure I’d turn into a puddle if he could do the single eyebrow lift.

If this woman were walking down the street, I would be overwhelmed by the feeling of needing to know her. Who is she? What does she do? She’s clearly some magical being in human form. Perhaps my imagination is too fanciful and she’s simply on her way to Coachella or something. Regardless, I need her to teach me how to master winged eyeliner.

Look at this suave S.O.B. He’s like Flynn Rider come to life with all that smolder. I bet he’s on his way to a decadent brunch, where he’s not afraid to order a passionfruit mimosa. And yes, he will indulge in those Belgian waffles. Even when it’s not windy, that coat probably flaps dramatically behind him.

Do you wish it was coat season where you live? Anyone else want to join me in my winter house hopping?

Onward to the land of cooler temps and fabulous coats! My body is ready. Here in Florida the heat and humidity are brutal.
I’m pretty sure the Flynn Rider guy has been a romance novel cover model. Probably a billionaire romance where he just HAS to marry the woman who’s doing a temp assignment in the file room because if he doesn’t show up to Grandmother’s 80th birthday celebration with a bride, he’ll be disinherited…and what do all those society swans understand about a man who likes to renovate Craftsman bungalows as a weekend hobby? That temp was reading a DIY magazine in the break room. She has to be the one!
Photo #2 = Sylvester, 21st C (Georgette Heyer)
And. Photo #1. If she’s killed four husbands, that fur is real.
@Qualisign, offing four husbands doesn’t mean she isn’t a PETA member.
In my mind #3 is now and forever Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle from Thea Harrison’s Elder races. Or should I say Queen Tricks?
I’m loving all these comments!
The best coat:

And those long, LONG legs make the coat-swish even more dramatic!
Also, @Qualisign #3, yes, Sylvester, or even Avon — any number of Heyer heroes, really!
Winged eyeliner woman is clearly one of the Belles (Dhonielle Clayton)
In college (back in the dark ages, aka, the 70s), I had a long brown wool coat that flared below the waistline. I wore it with platforms and a mini skirt. My favorite trick was to walk in almost late to church with my 6’5″, very blond brother on one side and his 6’4″, very black friend on the other side. It was so dramatic. Miss that coat. And being able to wear 4 inch heels.
Now I’m thinking of Stuart’s coat in Judith Ivory’s Untie My Heart. Here’s a post about it ~ http://victoriajanssen.com/2018/04/stuarts-coat-sartorial-eroticism-in-untie-my-heart-by-judith-ivory/
Vicki,
I inherited a coat from my grandmother that probably dates back to the 70s. It’s a gorgeous reddish brown tweed with a flared skirt. It’s everything a coat should be. But it hangs on the back of my door, unworn until I can summon the will power to lose three dress sizes to fit into it. It’s my Hope Coat.
Amanda – come and visit me. I have a spare room and everything. If you bring the rain you’ll have Australia’s undying devotion.
Amanda, we have the same dream!
@Kareni, I was thinking just the other day that it was time for a reread of that book. And it was the coat, not the chair sex, I was thinking about. Went out and bought the ebook for vacation at the of the month.
@BellaInAus: I’ll see what I can do!
@Laura: Is it so wrong to want just a SBTB reading compound? The kitchen is always stocked, the weather is perfect, and no one will bother you if you want to be alone to read.
@Sandra, enjoy your reread. I think I might love the coat more than Stuart….
