  • Six of Crows

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is $2.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which has four pages of deals today! This was described to me as a fantasy YA Ocean’s Eleven with heist hijinks. I’ve also heard that the audiobook is really good. A lot of readers say the book lived up to its hype. Some say it takes a while to get invested, but that it’s so worth it.

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

  • Against the Wall

Against the Wall by Rebecca Zanetti

Against the Wall by Rebecca Zanetti is 99c! This is the first book in the Montana Mavericks series and it features a tribal lawyer hero. After reading through some reviews, there seems to be some uncertainty on the genre. Is it romantic suspense? Erotic romance? There also seems to be a whiff of a secret baby plot.

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint…

Never challenge a cowboy in the courtroom…

Surveying the proposed site for a high-end golf course should have been a breeze for spunky landscape architect Sophie Smith. But when this born-and-bred city girl is literally swept off her feet by a sexy cowboy on horseback, she realizes country life has some serious (and seriously steamy) possibilities. That is, until she finds out exactly who her smoking hot wrangler really is.

Tribal lawyer Jake Lodge is desperately trying to block the development. And if that means playing hardball, so be it. But Sophie is a distraction he didn’t expect. A distraction that makes his blood burn. Two different worlds. Two opposing sides. And when they finally give into temptation, the consequences will shake the foundations of both of their lives…

  • Beauty and Beastly

Beauty and Beastly by Melanie Karsak

Beauty and Beastly by Melanie Karsak is 99c at Amazon! This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with steampunk vibes. If you like fairy tale retellings, there are plenty more in this series. However, I’m unsure if this is more young adult or not.

In this tale as old as time, Isabella Hawking must tinker a solution to a heartbreaking mystery.

When Isabelle and her papa set out from London on a sea voyage, Isabelle was thrilled. Visiting foreign courts, learning from master tinkers, and studying new ways to manipulate mechanicals sounded like a dream. But an unexpected gale turns the waters violent, and the ship is lost. Isabelle survives the tempest only to be shipwrecked on a seemingly-deserted island. Dotted with standing stones, faerie mounds, and a crumbling castle, the haunting place hints of a magical past. Isabelle may be an unwitting guest, but her arrival at the forgotten citadel heralds a new beginning for the beastly residents inside.

Beauty and Beastly is a retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale set in 1814 Regency England.

  1. Kathy says:

I loved the Fly me to the Moon series and am considering buying this edition just for the extras. Like Mad Men, Star Dust and Earth Bound are a deep dive into sixties culture and I was taken right back! And Midnight Clear is super romantic. The writing is good, the romance is powerful, and it is heartfelt without being super angsty. I’d say give this a whirl if you haven’t tried it yet. At this price it is worth the risk.

  2. JudyW says:

Six of Crows is Excellent! The world is well developed and the adventuring and and characters are superior. Well worth the money.

  3. Susan says:

@Kathy: Agree! I own/have read all the books in the Barry/Turner series, but am also tempted to buy this boxed set just for the extras. 🙂

  4. Snaptrix says:

Six of Crows is well worth it. Leigh Bardugo is a gifted storyteller, love all her books and worlds.

  5. Kareni says:

I’ll add my recommendation for the Fly Me to the Moon books.

  6. Laurel says:

The Fly Me to Moon series is excellent – 99 cents is a steal for any one of these books. The rest of the series is fantastic as well.

The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt is one of the Amazon deals today. It is not a romance, but it is very good, although kind of dark. Reading it I kept thinking it would make a great Cohen brothers movie, because it has that kind of twisted dark comedy thing they do so well. (It was made into a movie, but not by them.)

  7. HeatherS says:

“The Rook” by Daniel O’Malley is a $2.99 KDD. I know y’all have rec’d it and the TV show is going on now.

  8. FashionablyEvil says:

Six of Crows is really good and while there are some romantic elements, I wouldn’t characterize it as a romance. Much more on the scrappy theives/heist side of things. Also, for people who might adhere to Sarah’s “no entrails” rule, this one has entrails.

  9. Chantal says:

I was not the biggest fan of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone book. I did finish the novel, but just thought it was “just okay” & it definitely felt outside of my age group, so I never finished the series. Since everyone loves the Grisha series, I was hesitant to pick up the Six of Crows. I have to say I *loved* the SoC series. The writing style was also quite different than from what I remember of Shadow & Bone. So, on the change you didn’t like Shadow & Bone, definitely give Six of Crows a try!
