  • Dangerous

    Dangerous by Amanda Quick

Dangerous by Amanda Quick is $1.99! This is a historical romance with (I believe) a slight  mystery element. This was originally published in 1993, so if you know whether this one holds up, comment down below!

From a magnificent ballroom ablaze with lights to an imposing country house steeped in shadows comes a breathtaking tale of an impetuous miss—and a passion that leads to peril…

At five and twenty, Prudence Merryweather knew very well the risks a woman took by visiting a gentleman in the dead of night. But bearding the notorious Earl of Angelstone in his den was the only way to stop him from engaging her hot-headed brother in a duel. And that was why she found herself ushered into Sebastian’s forbidding presence at three in the morning—and thoroughly kissed before dawn.

She was a country-bred innocent—and an intriguing experience for a man who dwelt more in the shadows than in the sunshine. Yet as her boldness drew Prue into one dangerous episode after another, Sebastian found himself torn between a raging hunger to possess her and a driving need to protect her. And the reckless beauty would soon need all the protection she could get…

  • Disturbing His Peace

Disturbing His Peace by Tessa Bailey

Disturbing His Peace by Tessa Bailey is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance and the third in The Academy series, which focuses on police officers and police recruits. I think the cover model on this one looks like Shane West, heartthrob of the early 2000s. Have you read this one? Or any of the other books in the series?

She’s got probable cause to make her move . . .

Danika Silva can’t stand Lt. Greer Burns. Her roommate’s older brother may be sexy as hell, but he’s also a cold, unfeeling robot. She just wants to graduate and forget about her scowling superior. But when a dangerous mistake lands Danika on probation—under Greer’s watch—she’s forced to interact with the big, hulking jerk. Call him daily to check in? Done. Ride shotgun in his cruiser every night? Done. Try not to climb into his giant, muscular lap and kiss him? Umm…

Greer doesn’t let anything—or anyone—distract him from the job. Except lately, all he can think about is Danika. He’s wanted the beautiful, cocky recruit since the moment he saw her. But she’s reckless and unpredictable, and Greer is painfully aware of what can happen when an officer doesn’t follow the rules. Probation seemed like a good idea, but now Danika’s scent is in his car and he’s replayed her voicemails twenty times. Christ, he’s a goner.

Danika’s melting Greer’s stone-cold exterior one ride-along at a time. Being together could have serious consequences… but breaking a few rules never hurt anybody, right?

  • Contract Signed

    Contract Signed by Marie Harte

Contract Signed by Marie Harte is 99c! This one was originally published under Samhain, but has been re-released. This is a romantic suspense about three assassins who find a baby on their doorstep. It’s a standalone and the subsequent books follow the remaining assassins. The second book is also on sale.

Three assassins and a… baby?  Don’t miss the first in this sexy, fast-paced romantic suspense series–TRIGGERMAN INC.–from New York Times bestseller Marie Harte.

Noel “Ice” Cavanaugh’s method is foolproof. Get in, do the job, get out, melt away without a trace. Neat. Tidy. No mistakes.

This time, though, something isn’t right. Two somethings. First, a random attack that feels not-so-random. Then he discovers a baby on his doorstep with a note claiming it’s his. Unfortunately, the sexy neighbor who found the boy first has too many questions in her eyes to ignore.

When her handsome, mysterious neighbor suddenly asks her out on a date, Adeline Rose has suspicions he’s fishing for help with his bundle of…joy? By the date’s end, she’s convinced Noel’s just as distant as he seems–until a scorching goodnight kiss burns away all thoughts of being careful.

Now Noel has more than one problem on his hands. Splitting baby duty between three badass assassins, figuring out how to fit in more time with Addy…and keeping both of them safe from the danger that’s followed him home.

Warning: Beware a killer with a heart of gold, a baby who needs constant changing, and unrequited love that’s actually quite…requited.

  1. Ren Benton says:

My wish list apparently inspired price drops this weekend, so I have an embarrassment of books on sale. Several of these have been reviewed by the Bitchery, but I won’t invoke the spam filter’s wrath by trying to link to them all. I didn’t verify prices outside of Amazon due to volume, but I don’t think any of them are exclusive, so try your luck at your favorite store.

$1.99 THE LUMINOUS DEAD by Kaitlin Starling. Caves iiiiin spaaaaace!

$1.99 POLARIS RISING by Jessie Mihalik. Princess and outlaw soldier iiiiin spaaaaace!

$2.99 A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE by Arkady Martine. Political murder mystery iiiiin spaaaaace!

$1.99 THE BIRD KING by G. Willow Wilson. Muslim concubine and magical mapmaker iiiiin Spaaaaain! (sorry, couldn’t resist)

$2.99 UNMARRIAGEABLE by Soniah Kamal. Pakistani Pride & Prejudice.

$1.99 DESCENDANT OF THE CRANE by Joan He. Chinese-inspired royal intrigue fantasy.

$1.99 MASK OF SHADOWS by Linsey Miller. Genderfluid assassin. The second book in the duology, RUIN OF STARS, is $2.99, so one of those sneaky “I don’t even know if I’ll like this, but should I get both because SALE?” conundrums.

$1.99 THICK AND OTHER ESSAYS by Tressie McMillan Cotton. Black American feminist insight.

$2.99 THE LADY FROM THE BLACK LAGOON by Mallory O’Meara. About pioneering monster designer Milicent Patrick, whose work was claimed by an asshole.

$2.99 DAMN FINE STORY by Chuck Wendig. Irreverent storytelling suggestions.

  2. MEME says:

Once Upon a Wedding Pre- Ordered!

    Might need to re-read Dangerous

The first book in Tessa Bailey’s The Academy series was one of the most alarming things I’ve ever read.

Disorderly Conduct is about an openly chauvinist (the ‘fuck you for leaving your terrible husband, mom! Now i don’t trust women’ kind) police officer in training using his (nascent) power to sabotage the romantic choices of his former fuck-buddy to manipulate her into having sex with him again.

He’s also violent. In one scene towards the end of the book a police academy friend expresses interest in the heroine and our hero beats the shit out of him, continuing to kick the man when he’s on the ground. Was there anyone alive in 2017 who could read this and feel like this guy should be given a badge? His brother the hero of the sale book, a lieutenant who witnessed his brother assault a fellow officer, warns him that this could hurt his career by delaying his officer exam. Yes, give him MORE POWER.

Disorderly Conduct also had some fun sequel bait about the hero’s alcoholic roommate who shows up to police school drunk but everyone covers for because give that rapscallion a gun.

The HEA included the heroine promising to help the hero advance his career. I did not read the rest of the series.

  3. Katie Lynn says:

Meet Cute by Helena Hunting is $1.99 at Amazon today. Former star and a woman who fangirls over him, they become friends and then have a fallout. And then he needs her help. I haven’t read it but I know it was highly anticipated and was being compared to The Wedding Date and Kiss Quotient.

  4. JenM says:

Lots of great deals as part of the Kindle daily deal today, but these are Amazon US and Canada only.

    Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas
Lady Derring Takes a Lover by Julie Anne Long
Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave by Darynda Jones
99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne
    Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik
    Meet Cute by Helena Hunting

  5. jcp says:

The Trial of Lizzie Borden is $1.99 today only on Amazon
The Library of Lost and Found is $2.99 today only on Amaazon

  6. Sandra says:

@Ren Benton: The Mihalik is also on sale @ B&N. Which is a good thing, because I’ve been wanting it, but not for $11 for an ePub.

  7. Kay says:

I bought Devil’s Daughter this morning, even though I’m not fully enjoying my very first Lisa Kleypas, which is Secrets of a Summer Night. I already bought It Happened One Autumn (which has been $3.99 for Kindle for a while), and Cold-Hearted Rake (when it was $1.99 a few weeks ago), so I figured I’d just pull the trigger and continue with both series.

Thanks for the heads up about the Julie Ann Long. I haven’t read anything by this author so this seems like a good time to start.

For anyone staying away from Sally Thorne’s second novel, 99 Percent Mine, because of bad reviews – it took me over 100 pages to get into it, and then I loved it dearly. $1.99 is an excellent price for it. Just give it a chance. The beginning is weird and kind of off-putting, but if you loved The Hating Game, I think the second part of the book is really great.

  8. MirandaB says:

Jane Harper’s The Lost Man is also 2.99 on Amazon.

  9. Kay says:

Amanda’s February 5th review of Polaris Rising was amazing, so I just one-clicked that for $1.99. Thanks for letting us know about it, @JenM.

  10. MsCellanie says:

I (coincidentally) ran across this essay yesterday by Dr. McMillan Cottom – and thought I should get this if it ever goes on sale.

Thanks @Ren, for letting me know it went on sale.
(Also, it’s just a good essay, even if you aren’t going to get the book).

  11. Erica H says:

I have recently read Dangerous again. It held up surprisingly well. Still funny. Still a good comfort read for me.

  12. Starling says:

I know it was mentioned in the comments in the last Books on Sale post, but it bears repeating: Courtney Milan’s Brothers Sinister box set is still on sale for $2.99, and includes four novels and three short stories. I loved them–The Suffragette Scandal is my favorite of her books.

  13. Katie says:

Don’t recall Dangerous specifically, but I read most of the Amanda Quick backlist for the first time 6 or 7 years ago and liked them. Generally, I think those all stand up OK. If you’ve read any recent Quick or Krentz titles and liked them, then you know what you’re getting. I find her comforting.

  14. ChrisZ says:

Wicked and the Wallflower by Sarah MacLean is 1.99 for kindle edition today, too.

  15. LauraL says:

I pre-orderd Once Upon a Wedding since I can’t resist second chance stories and I’ve enjoyed reading many of the contemporary authors on the list. It will be a nice complement to the wedding movie blitz on the Hallmark Channel.

I have been waiting for Lady Derring Takes a Lover for weeks and weeks and weeks from the library, so thanks to JenM for the Kindle Daily Deal heads up. The book just hit my Kindle.

  16. Chillyjen says:

I’ll add my voice to the ‘Amanda Quick stands up well crowd’. I read many of her books in my teens when I was visiting my grandma in Florida (the book selection at the clubhouse was VERY educational). When I started reading romance again I read most again and still enjoyed them in comparison to many of my other early reads (holy smokes, how was rape seen as a foundation for an HEA? Some folks were watching too much Luke and Laura).

  17. Katie C. says:

I did not have quite the same reaction as @MEME to Disorderly Conduct, the first in the Tessa Bailey series on sale here. I liked it although it was probably my least favorite of hers I have read so far. However, you do have to have a high tolerance for an alpha hero bordering very close to and sometimes slipping into alphahole territory. If that even remotely sounds like something you would might want to steer clear of then take my advice and steer clear for sure.

  18. So I just one clicked the Amanda Quick, Polaris Rising, and the Chuck Wendig writing book. Thanks everyone!

  19. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

@MEME I felt the same about Disorderly Conduct. That book certainly made me want to say “Fuck the Police!”

  20. Caitlin says:

Sonali Dev! That’s it, I’m like honor-bound to buy Once Upon a Wedding now. I love Sonali Dev. (Doesn’t hurt that I met her at the Illinois Library Association conference a few years ago!)
