The Anatomist’s Wife
The Anatomist’s Wife by Anna Lee Huber is $2.99 at Amazon, which means this deal could expire soon! This is a historical mystery that we tend to recommend on Instagram who want Deanna Raybourn or Lady Sherlock read-alikes. Some people found the prose a bit flowery, while others loved the characters and setting.
Scotland, 1830. Following the death of her husband, Lady Darby has taken refuge at her sister’s estate, finding solace in her passion for painting. But when her hosts throw a house party for the cream of London society, Kiera is unable to hide from the ire of those who believe her to be as unnatural as her husband, an anatomist who used her artistic talents to suit his own macabre purposes.
Kiera wants to put her past aside, but when one of the house guests is murdered, her brother-in-law asks her to utilize her knowledge of human anatomy to aid the insufferable Sebastian Gage—a fellow guest with some experience as an inquiry agent. While Gage is clearly more competent than she first assumed, Kiera isn’t about to let her guard down as accusations and rumors swirl.
When Kiera and Gage’s search leads them to even more gruesome discoveries, a series of disturbing notes urges Lady Darby to give up the inquiry. But Kiera is determined to both protect her family and prove her innocence, even as she risks becoming the next victim…

Bared to You
Bared to You by Sylvia Day is $1.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! This is an erotic romance and the first in a series that follows the same couple. Day’s books are rarely on sale, so snap this up while you can. Many readers compare this book to Fifty Shades of Grey. Some say it’s better; some say it’s worse. But how you feel about this book may depend on how much you enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey.
Our journey began in fire…
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness—beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.

The Lady and the Laird
The Lady and the Laird by Nicola Cornick is $1.99! This is a historical romance with an enemies to lovers and marriage of convenience romance. Readers loved the Highland setting, but found the book stalls during the middle. Have you read this one?
An Indecent Proposal!
Lady Lucy MacMorlan may have forsworn men and marriage, but that doesn’t mean she won’t agree to profit from writing love letters for her brother’s friends – letters that become increasingly racy as her fame grows. That is, until she deliberately ruins the betrothal of a notorious laird, Robert, Marquis of Methven.
Past centuries of bloodshed have left the Methven and MacMorlan families bitter enemies and Robert is furious that Lady Lucy’s letters have cost him the bride he needs so urgently to save his ancestral clan lands. Now he makes Lucy a shocking proposal; in return for his silence she must become his wife and provide him with the heir he needs. It is an inconvenient marriage of convenience but can the rugged laird and the bluestocking beauty fight against the power of love?

Suddenly Last Summer
RECOMMENDED: Suddenly Last Summer by Sarah Morgan is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance, and is book 2 in the O’Neil trilogy, which takes place at a ski resort in Vermont. This book has a 3.9-star average, and the heroine, a chef named Elise, is particularly funny and unique, and the attraction between her and the hero is blistering, too.
Fiery French chef Élise Philippe is having a seriously bad day. Not only have the grand opening plans for her beloved café fallen apart, but Sean O’Neil is back in town and looking more delectable than ever. Memories of the electrifying night they shared last summer leave Élise very tempted, but she knows all too well that eventually Sean will be leaving…again.
Being back in Vermont—even temporarily—is surgeon Sean O’Neil’s worst nightmare. Returning home to the Snow Crystal Resort means confronting the guilt he feels about rejecting his family’s lifestyle years ago. But discovering that Élise is still in Vermont and still sets his blood racing is a very welcome distraction! Remembering last summer and how good they were together is going to make walking away more difficult than he could imagine….

I like The Lady Darby mysteries, but get annoyed because she is uniquely equipped to be an amateur forensic scientist but barely does any forensic science.
Not Romance, but highly recommended.
For Amazon UK (not US, alas) readers: Mick Herron’s first five Slow Horses books are on sale this month for .99 each, in anticipation of his new novel, JOE COUNTRY. I cannot sing the praises of this series loudly enough.
Slough House is where disgraced MI5 operatives are banished; they can’t be fired (too public) and they can’t be trusted by the brass. They are angry, disgruntled and yearning to get back to the service. Initially they aren’t particularly likable either, but Herron makes you care so much about them. And the books are wickedly funny, irreverent and offensive in the form of Jackson Lamb, the head of Slough House. The agents, his “joes”, are the people he protects with his wits and insults. I love these people.
The complete Submission series by the criminally-underrated CD Reiss is currently free in the Kindle store. The bundle consists of three books—SUBMISSION, DOMINATION, CONNECTION. They won’t be to everyone’s taste, but they are extremely well-written and are sometimes referred to as “the thinking woman’s Fifty Shades.”
@DiscoDollyDeb the bundle is $7.99 now. I might bite when I get paid.
@Terrierhead: Sorry about that—it was free on Friday and when I checked earlier, I thought it was still free.
EJ brilliant thought of the day: is a Laird just a Lord with a Scottish accent?
Cursory internet search says probably not
