Hey there, Wednesday! Need some links? I’m back from attending Book Expo America in NYC. I did not stay for BookCon. I’m happy to be home for a little bit before I head back to New York for my first RWA. I’m very excited to attend!

We have an update from Cleo, who was able to visit the Monument Quilt and find the square she contributed. Visit the original post to see her photos!

Happy Pride Month to my fellow LGBT readers! Sarah sent me this “Orientation & Gender Armory” artwork from Foxflight Studios. I’m heavily considering buying the Battleaxe Bi pin.

If you have a lot of frustrated feelings about how women’s health is treated, this interview won’t make you feel any better. However, it was an amazing read and hit really close to home for me, as it discusses the relationship between women, menopause, and Alzheimer’s. This specifically gave me pause:
There’s a strong association between early menopause and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s in women. And an oophorectomy, which is the surgical removal of the ovaries, increases the risk up to 70%.
My grandmother had uterine cancer in her thirties and had an oophorectomy. She’s currently 74 and diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in the last few years. Her sister (my great aunt) died three years ago from the same disease. It’s awful and I truly don’t wish it on anyone, but I hope we see more studies like this gain traction. There’s so much medicine doesn’t know about our bodies.

If you want even more enamel pins for you collection, check out these trope pins on Kickstarter! Is it bad that I want all of them? Thanks to Marie for sending this link my way.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!
That Cast Iron Pan would make a gorgeous tattoo. They all would, actually. I like the trope pins, too. Thanks for the links.

My employer supports Global Citizen and during a recent company-wide meeting, Period Poverty was mentioned. Girls being ostracized for having their period and/or not having the means to have sanitary products! I found this link interesting as it brings light to something I had never thought much about as I’ve been busy trying to get teen girls interested in going in to STEM careers. SMH. https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/period-poverty-everything-you-need-to-know/
Thanks for sharing the link about menopause and Alzheimer’s disease. I had a hysterectomy in my 30s after a cancer diagnosis. My oncologist recommended I eat organic foods, especially milk and foods eaten daily, and what is basically a Mediterranean diet all those years ago. I have followed her advice. The interview first concerned me and then left me hopeful. I wish Dr. Mosconi all the best in her quest.
@LauraL: I think the interview mentioned it, but Dr. Mosconi has a book coming out in 2020 called The XX Brain. There isn’t much info about it at this point, but I’m very curious.
I backed the original LGBT armory kickstarter!! got a pin and a patch and they are amazing!!
